Think we’ll have to agree to disagree re Gemma vs Joe. I thought Gemma’s dances were bland apart from maybe the Charleston and I wasn’t convinced about her “dead normal, me” persona either.

Are they not allowed to have water after the dance?

ChoccyJules · 22/10/2018 10:00

What do you mean about starting now, Choccy? In this series alone the judges have voted off the worst dancer in every week.

I was referring to a belief held by quite a few people (of internet non-scientific study proportions) that people have got kept in before for reasons not seemingly connected to their dance-off. Like bankability for the Beeb or ‘potential’. I agree that until this week the worst dancer has gone out but Vick is better than a few of the others, my thoughts alone.

TwitterQueen1 · 22/10/2018 10:02

I'm late to the party but can I join in? Smile

I think it was said upthread but surely Graz's poor choreography is to blame for their departure? Unless maybe Vick had no time to practice. The dance wasn't really a dance at all - it was just posturing and sliding around. IMHO Shirley made the right decision.

Loved Alfonso. Can't warm to DJJ but don't know why. I think it's because he's so determined to be perfect he's not really feeling it... Didn't deserve a 10.

Inkanta · 22/10/2018 10:33

'surely Graz's poor choreography is to blame for their departure?'

I wonder then why Graz as new young pro, didn't get any help. Seann and Katya practiced with an experienced choreography last week. Why didn't Graz get this extra help?

callmeadoctor · 22/10/2018 10:42

Choreographers are brought in for the specialist dances like charlston and Argentine Tango (which is why kata and Sean had a choreographer in as they had charlston)

KurriKurri · 22/10/2018 10:54

My DD is convinced Joe will sail throuhg tot he fimal and win this year - based on the huge number of hits (compared with the others)that his dances get on Youtube. I know Youtube watches don't necessarily translate into votes, butu it seems he has a huge fan base (according to DD - I know nothing of such things and had never heard of him). ihope she's wrong - I find his dances quite boring - although he's an amiable pleasant man.

Brendan must be a bit put out to see the quality of the dancer who replaced him, hissy fitter though he was, at least brendan could dance.

I really hope Neil gets a spot as a pro next year (I mean a partnered pro)he's such a nice guy - funny and lots of personality, and I'm sure he would be a great teacher.

Agree with you Queen about DJJ - he's taking it all very seriously, not getting a sense of enjoyment from him. Mind you - I am the same age as him and I would really struggle remembering the routines - there's a huge difference from what my memory was 20 years ago. So maybe he just has to concentrate really hard - and Amy throws some complicated stuff at him.

If you want a drinking time, have a slurp every time Darcy gobbles out 'oh my goodness' each week - it's making me shout at the telly now Grin

KurriKurri · 22/10/2018 10:54

drinking game that is

ppeatfruit · 22/10/2018 11:18

xsquared They used to have bottles of water as soon as they finished (when with Tess and judges). I understand the logistics of that must be difficult but having a jug of water and glasses upstairs, they could help themselves to, with Claude would work wouldn't it?

xsquared · 22/10/2018 11:52

Susannah was caught on camera drinking Red Bull in
week 2 so I think they must be allowed to have a drink afterwards, but have to do so discreetly? I don’t know.

Volant · 22/10/2018 12:32

I was referring to a belief held by quite a few people (of internet non-scientific study proportions) that people have got kept in before for reasons not seemingly connected to their dance-off.

But that tends to depend on the vote, not judges' decisions. Ann Widdecombe, for instance, stayed in way beyond what her (lack of) ability justified, but as soon as she was in the dance-off she was out.

starkid · 22/10/2018 12:37

I feel bad for them babying Joe too, he isn't even that young (late twenties, same as me!), and they go 'aw look at his little face' 'such a sweet innocent smile' etc. On Lorraine she just outright said he looked 12. It's all a bit rude really and hardly a compliment to a man!

I didn't want to like Ashley's dance but I did, although it did lack true emotion. Likes Stacey's too, and Danny and Charles. Joe's was nice enough but Waltz's are a bit boring. I want to see him do salsa or tango!
Ranj, Lauren, Kate, Faye, Vick and Seann's weren't great this week (was shouting at the TV for them to just get rid of Seann and Katya though so the atmosphere can go back to normal!)

Does anyone know what dance everyone is doing this week?
Don't think songs were mentioned but the only dance I caught was the Paso Doble for Lauren.

KurriKurri · 22/10/2018 13:08

Graeme is dancing to Thriller (don;t know what dance though)
And Kate has been landed with the poisoned chalice that is the Halloween Themed Rumba.

Didn't catch anyone else's though

Inkanta · 22/10/2018 13:16

Interesting that Vick on Capital Radio today said had there had been a 'conflab' conversation between producers before head judge Shirley Ballas gave her decision to save Walsh and Jones. She thought it was a bit weird.

Well it wouldn't surprise me at all if the producers are getting more say than they should.

ChoccyJules · 22/10/2018 13:21

That is very interesting.

TwitterQueen1 · 22/10/2018 13:55

Kurri I am the same age too Wink. But I was doing some pretty complex line dancing moves until around 18 months ago. It's definitely all about the winning for DJJ - not the taking part.

Vick's not being a gracious loser is she!

mirage937 · 22/10/2018 14:00

I wonder what the atmosphere will be like on ITT, if Vic has criticised Shirley too

SchadenfreudeUndeadified · 22/10/2018 14:03

Why should she be if she was robbed Twitter? I'd go down fighting, too.

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 22/10/2018 14:06

Good for Vick if that’s true. Tell it as it is. We don’t ever know about the amount of public votes do we?

Volant · 22/10/2018 14:10

I don't really follow that. Given her wholesale condemnation of Vick's dance first time round, there is really no way Shirley could have saved them and retained any credibility - so I can't see that there was anything to discuss.

For all we know, the confab (if it happened) was about a broken mic or menu orders for the restaurant they were going to afterwards.

ShirleyPhallus · 22/10/2018 14:10

Interesting that Vick on Capital Radio today said had there had been a 'conflab' conversation between producers before head judge Shirley Ballas gave her decision to save Walsh and Jones. She thought it was a bit weird.

This happens all the time doesn’t it? Someone, maybe one of the dancers or judges said quite some time ago that the producers often step in and out to speak with the judges - ie if they’re running late and can’t have all the “both pairs did really well....” spiel they want them just to say it quicker to make back up some time

Purplemond · 22/10/2018 14:14

James Jordan posted on twitter the right decision was made in the dance off, for all his misgivings i trust his dance knowledge

KurriKurri · 22/10/2018 14:17

I don;t like Sean nnn and wish he had gone, but I don;t think Vick can claim she was robbed (if she is claiming that) she scored lower on the night, She was the worst dancer on the night according to the judges and looks like the public thought so too. I like her, and I'm sorry she got lumbered with Graziano, but if Seannnnn had gone I think he'd have more right to say he was robbed, or kicked out for shenanigans rather than his dancing or whatever.

I do wish they'd get rid of the head judge business though - much better to do it like X Factor - if the judges are deadlocked. Go to the public vote, because ultimately the judges have already had a say once with the originla scores, they get a second bite of the cherry in the dance off, and if they can;t agree they the public should be the decider, not Shirley who - let's say - has her little favourites and curious aversions.

ShirleyPhallus · 22/10/2018 14:18

It does piss me off when “the general public” get all rowdy about a dancer going when they are the ones who didn’t bloody vote to save the contestant in the first place

Inkanta · 22/10/2018 14:21

Louise Rainbow - is the executive producer and I understand that her main priority is getting high ratings. Have read quotes like this -

"The way she works I can find easily identifiable. Instead of doing things for fairness she does things in more of a political style".

This may explain my frustration with the show.

mirage937 · 22/10/2018 14:21

Maybe the producers were explaining what to do to Alfonso, given Shirley scored Sean 6 and Vic 4 i dont think she was ever going to save Vic with producers input or not
