I'm a bit dim when it comes to things like that eejit. I have my laptop and my phone and would need my laptop to type on. I suppose I could watch it via my phone?

Still here Ilove and always following your watchalongs. This one just makes me a bit sad though as it simply ruined what had gone before. Thanks again though for keeping OG alive and we'll just have to see what, if anything, happens re another series.

Like Rhu I have serious reservations about that and would probably prefer a completely new cast. Never thought I'd say that.

Have a lovely Christmas and a happy new year.

Ilovelblue · 20/12/2018 22:04

In the past, in the lull between series, we've just chatted about this and that but we don't have as many posters now as we used to do.

Is there something else in boxset version which would be of interest? I know this is the CJ Addicts thread but I think of it as a place for like-minded people to meet and 'chat'. I think it would be perfectly alright to do another series of some kind.

Ilovelblue · 20/12/2018 22:09

Hi Magi - hope you're well. You're right, it is sad and that TG or the BBC or producer or whoever it was definitely ruined what had gone before. At least there are some great fanfics to focus on.

Did anyone see the author's note from SarahLouiseK30? Somebody had been leaving bullying type reviews for her, one of which came on her wedding day. Some nasty minded people around.

Hi Magi Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you!

Here's an idea although there's an element of embarrassment in this suggestion [bllush] but I've got a boxset of 'Soldier, Soldier' and I can assure you there are dozens and dozens of episodes of that. Mind you, if you can't stand Robson and Jerome it's a lost cause.

Rhubarb01 · 20/12/2018 22:13

I'm not really up-to-date on OG fanfic these days ilove but I can't understand why anyone has to leave nasty reviews. It's just a story for goodness sake. If you don't like it then don't say anything.

Ilovelblue · 20/12/2018 22:14

I used to love Soldier Soldier!! I'll be able to buy that on DVD from ebay probably as well.

OP posts:
Magi84 · 20/12/2018 22:14

Yes I did see that and thought it was just dreadful. Surely people realise it is down to them to read ff of their choice and leave alone the ones that don't suit their taste. No need to be nasty to a writer who has been really brave to put her work out into a large audience.

All well here thanks Ilove - just can't believe how quickly this year has gone. Got another birthday in a couple of weeks so they're mounting up now😜

Rhubarb01 · 20/12/2018 22:15

Of for goodness sake [bllush] means Blush

eejittwo · 20/12/2018 22:15

I never saw Soldier Soldier - Imy loyalties were with Sharpe!

Ilovelblue · 20/12/2018 22:16

Do you fancy giving it a go?

OP posts:
Magi84 · 20/12/2018 22:17

Soldier Soldier sounds a good idea. I remember loving that. Keeping the military theme seems appropriate.

Rhubarb01 · 20/12/2018 22:22

Just counted up and there are 82 episodes of Soldier Soldier in total. I think the first four or five series were probably the best but it's a good example of changing the cast and keeping the series going. They also focused stories on the families and so there were as many female main characters as male.

eejittwo · 20/12/2018 22:22

I’ve just checked and it’s available online in UKTV

Ilovelblue · 20/12/2018 22:39

I'd be better buying the DVD(s) I think. Tell me which series you want to do (I'm guessing starting off with series 1)?

Perhaps we could give 'Soldier, Soldier' a try in the New Year perhaps the first Thursday in January? It will be a bit of blast from the past as I think it started in the early 90's - so lots of interesting hair and fashions on display not to mention the way the British army was back then. I think the first couple of series were written by Lucy Gannon who has a good TV drama pedigree. Those were the days when there were 10 or 12 episodes per series and a budget which sent them all over the world.

eejjit I watched the first series of 'Last Kingdom' when it was first on and quite enjoyed it but I do find it very bloodthirsty and violent. DH watched the rest on Netflix.

Oh here comes Mary Berry to make me feel very inadequate about my catering - although this year I am not doing any entertaining at home at all - and I'm very glad about it!

Ilovelblue · 20/12/2018 22:51

I watched most of this when it was shown earlier in the week. I'm currently looking at going to The Clink prison restaurant in Cheshire (again) and booking it for January. Food is one of my hobbies I have to say.

Happy to do Series 1 of SS, starting on the SECOND Thursday of January, please. The first Thursday is 3rd, and I'm still on hols then. I'll have to miss the last Thursday - 31st January.

Rhubarb01 · 20/12/2018 22:55

ilove I think it's best to start with series one as all the main characters are introduced and they have a full story arc over many series. The first series is shorter too as it only has 7 episodes so might be a good one to try out. The next series also has 7 episodes then by series 3 they go up to 13. Those were the days!

Ilovelblue · 20/12/2018 23:02

Yes, I will have a look on eBay.

Second Thursday in January is fine for me. Well at the moment anyway.

Is everyone prepared for Christmas?

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 20/12/2018 23:16

Yes 10th January is OK for me as well. May need to do some revision beforehand as it's been a long time.

I think I've got most things sorted out for Christmas but DD and I will be braving the shops for a few final items tomorrow. I plan to get there as soon as they open and leave as soon as I possibly can.As for my grocery shopping, as I'm not entertaining there's no great panic about it, particularly as the shops will be open on Boxing Day, but I'm going to go very early on Christmas Eve. I usually go about 6am just to get it out of the way in relative peace and quiet. I haven't decided what we're eating for Christmas Dinner yet. I think I might need to hold a referendum - Beef or Chicken? (We're not turkey fans) Let's hope it doesn't lead to decades of division in this household!

eejittwo · 21/12/2018 07:09

As I am not responsible for the catering, yes (dare I say it?) I'm sorted - just have the prezzies to wrap. Most organised I have been for YEARS.

Magi84 · 21/12/2018 15:41

Thanks eejit for mentioning Soldier Soldier is available on UKTV. I had forgotten I had that app but can now happily watch the first series and then enjoy it when your watchalongs take place. Not good at watching and posting but find if I've watched an episode I can visualise what's going on and better appreciate all your comments.

Rhubarb01 · 22/12/2018 13:21

Has anyone seen the BBC advert for boxsets on iPlayer? It makes me laugh when it cuts to Olivia Colman in Fleabag saying "My goodness, you really are very good looking!" and then the camera turns to BA looking hot and saying, "Thank you!". Not wrong there!
