Will anyone be watching? I’ve not read the book but just seen the trailer and it looks good so I’ll give it a go. Patrick Dempsey is in it.

Starts 4th September on Sky Witness I believe.

I didn’t know they were adapting this! It’s a great book, will definitely try to catch the tv version.

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 27/08/2018 20:10

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 27/08/2018 20:12

I watched. Looks promising

Deliphant · 05/09/2018 19:36

Watched the 1st ep - definitely promising, trying to remember where i've seen the young bloke before..?

Pootle40 · 05/09/2018 19:40

I love both the Joel Dicker novels so had high hopes. First thought I had was that it didn't have the same quality of production as say Big Little Lies or Sharp Objects so worried it might feel a bit cheap or wooden. Only watched 20 minutes so far but acting and script seem a bit so so compared to the book. Will keep going

northender · 09/09/2018 10:15

I've read both his books too & loved them. Enjoyed episode 1 & felt it kept quite true to the book.

HannahnotAgnes · 12/09/2018 22:24

I've not read the books but enjoyed the first 2 episodes.

What's the main young actor been in as he seems very familiar?

VanCleefArpels · 12/09/2018 22:33

Not feeling it after the first 2 episodes I’m afraid. The use of narrator is irritating and I’m finding the prosthetics used to age the actors incredibly distracting

HannahnotAgnes · 12/09/2018 22:50

Agree that the voice isn't right for the narration but I do love Patrick Dempsey so will stick with it.

Just googled the young actor - he's the guy who played Mark in the movie Pride. Totally unrecognisable - thought he was gorgeous in Pride but not so much in this one!

EachandEveryone · 23/09/2018 13:43

Im enjoying it but my friends have all given up on it.

bimbobaggins · 29/09/2018 22:11

I’m watching this and just finished ep 4.anyone else still watching.?

NotPennysBoat · 30/09/2018 12:15

I'm still watching, I gasped out loud at the picture Marcus found in the last episode!

bimbobaggins · 30/09/2018 12:44

Glad someone is watching!
I just don’t know where it’s going to go, do you? I guess that’s why I’ve stuck with it. Yes, the photo was a real surprise

TwistedStitch · 30/09/2018 12:47

I'm watching this too. I usually binge watch shows that have already aired so I'm getting a bit impatient but I'm enjoying it. I've not read the book so have no clue what's going to happen, have a new theory every episode!

EachandEveryone · 01/10/2018 18:06

What picture? The painting? I have no clue where it’s going but I’m enjoying it.

theladylovescupcakes · 01/10/2018 18:07

We watched episodes 2, 3 and 4 last night - love it!

Fiffyshadesofgreymatter · 01/10/2018 18:07

The audio book is a great listen. Really well produced. If you want to know what's going to happen (and it's totally worth finding out) but don't want to read it, then I can highly recommend the audio book.

EachandEveryone · 01/10/2018 18:14

Why do we want to know spoilers though?

Fiffyshadesofgreymatter · 01/10/2018 18:15

It was a book first. It's not exactly "spoilers" to read the source material.

It totally depends what you like. Watch it and be surprised or (if you're impatient like me) listen to the audio book.

I only said it as some audio books are horrible to listen to, but this is a good one.

diddl · 02/10/2018 21:41

I'm watching ep1 & just got to the bit where Harry says he was in a motel room waiting for Nola & they were going to run away together.

Can't decide whether or not to continue.

NotPennysBoat · 02/10/2018 21:58

@diddl on paper it sounds really disturbing, but IMO so far, it's not. Persevere!

MadMum101 · 02/10/2018 23:44

Hooked on it which is rare for me. Very frustrated to wait another week for episode 6. I don't believe Harry did it. He tried to disassociate himself from her because he knew she was too young but felt responsible for her after her suicide attempt and after finding out about the beatings doesn't have much choice in taking her away. He wants to save her more than have sex with her?

Not sure that the 'mother' exists, is she disassociating herself from her father beating her by blaming it on her mother who she may have never known, as she has to live with him? Or is her mother secretly someone already prominent in the story as they're not showing her face? Was she sitting for the painting to get the rich guy to let Harry stay in the cottage for free or was Harry being set up to stay so he could be blamed but he got away it for long? There must be a backstory on the chauffeur as to his disfigurement. I think he picked her up for the rich guy not himself.

So many questions.

At the moment it's a toss up on the father, the police chief (he knew about the note and was maybe trying to save her father embarrassment) and the fruitloop cafe mother as to whodunit for me.

All a bit of a coincidence that her body was found just after Marcus stayed with Harry though, found his box of stuff about her, and needed a book topic. Is Harry playing him?

So frustrating!
