Will anyone be watching? I’ve not read the book but just seen the trailer and it looks good so I’ll give it a go. Patrick Dempsey is in it.

Starts 4th September on Sky Witness I believe.

"All a bit of a coincidence that her body was found just after Marcus stayed with Harry though, found his box of stuff about her, and needed a book topic. "

Yes, it's this that makes me think that the whole thing might be disappointing.

I doubt that Harry did it, but his reputation will take one hell of a fall won't it for being involved with a 15yr old?

TwistedStitch · 03/10/2018 08:57

Just watched latest episode. I don't get why they think she was having an affair with Stern? Surely the older man she spoke about was Harry, and she was sneaking off with the chaffeur to pose for the painting. I feel like I've missed something. I suspected the old guy the librarian at first, he's Harry's neighbour so could easily have spied but he seems to have disappeared now so I doubt it.

diddl · 04/10/2018 14:01

I'm only up to ep 4-but the police chief has got to be involved hasn't he?

Having seen the letter that Harry wrote?

Probably interpreted it as "15yr old likes older men"Hmm

I'm wondering if there are any nice people in the town!!

There's no mum is there, so Nola is very damaged.

Jenny seemed to be over egging how happy she is!

Just want to shake Harry though & say -FFS, she's 15-walk the fuck away!

SheCameFromGreeceSheHadaThirst · 05/10/2018 11:39

DESPERATE PLEA!!! Does anyone know where I can access episode 1 of this? Only heard about it yesterday when I spotted this thread, but on the Now box it's only available from episde 2 onwards Sad

Fiffyshadesofgreymatter · 05/10/2018 11:42

Just Google "watch the Harry quebert affair online" and try putlockers or watch series 123. Someone should have it streaming online.

*not that I recommend illegal streaming!!!

SheCameFromGreeceSheHadaThirst · 05/10/2018 11:44

Brilliant, ta ~ I found it on youtube, but 3/4 of the screen was taken up with adverts Angry

EachandEveryone · 10/10/2018 15:36

Im just watching the latest ond its quite slow isnt it?

TwistedStitch · 10/10/2018 16:31

I'm now thinking the young policeman may be behind it, he seems to have a violent streak! Anybody have any theories?

ALemonyPea · 12/10/2018 16:29

Enjoying this, I think the driver might be involved somehow. Is next weeks the final episode?

TwistedStitch · 12/10/2018 16:58

I think there are 10 altogether, so 4 more episodes. I'm now wondering if it's a group of people in on it together. Definitely think the police are involved somehow now.

MadMum101 · 12/10/2018 22:57

DH reckons Jenny and Travis? (the young policeman). Jenny is too sweet, maybe she flips when she finds out Harry has been seeing Nola with her crazy mom goading her perhaps, and Travis helps her cover it up so that's why she ends up with him?

I reckon her father finds the manuscript she took home to do a last proof read on and they get into a fight after she tells him she's leaving with Harry, she runs off and the father calls the police chief to bring her back, the police chief whacks her when she threatens to tell about him raping her?

We have way too much time on our hands obvsGrin.

MadMum101 · 16/10/2018 23:05

Nah, it wasn't the police chief. Too obvious. Same for the chauffeur.

Back to the father for me. Police chief covered up for the father?

TwistedStitch · 17/10/2018 13:19

Just watched last night's episode. Yeah can definitely rule out the police chief now because if it was him he would have jumped at the chance to frame the chaffeur after his death. It seems like he wanted the case kept open though- maybe he suspected someone or knew who it was but couldn't come forward for some reason.

I'm suspicious of the old neighbour again now he's reappeared, and the young policeman. Anybody have any thoughts?

ALemonyPea · 17/10/2018 19:01

I reckon it was HQ all along. Or maybe the dad.

NotPennysBoat · 17/10/2018 22:43

Why don't we ever see her mother? We know she was abusive, do we know where she is in present day (I presume dead... how?)

MadMum101 · 17/10/2018 23:05

I'm also wondering if she made it to the hotel rendezvous with Harry, iirc she was chased through the woods that led to there, but died as injured, Harry knew he'd be blamed so buried her on his property. He knew he couldn't out the person who did it? He wanted her to be 'found' so the young author could write the story? Too much of a coincidence that she turned up after the young author found the box with the stuff about her in it.

Who was chasing her and shot the old woman though. Her Dad? Can't be the young policeman as he also would have tried to implicate the chauffeur.

The old librarian is an odd character. The way he insisted Harry dedicate his book to him, very narcissisticConfused.

I don't think the mother exists. She beats herself?

Haven't watched such a difficult whodunit in ages. Normally suss them out early onAngryGrin.

cleanupinaisle7 · 18/10/2018 11:24

I'm loving that I haven't figured this out yet...

I think it's relevant that we've never seen the mother, or had reference to what happened to her after Nola disappeared.

I'm not convinced that Harry wrote the Origin of Evil, or at least not all of it. Judging by the last episode - he wants Marcus to tell the story, almost like he wants something to be over. He said, 'I've been waiting 32 years'.

The note was locked in the diner safe - Jenny had access?

Coffe3break · 18/10/2018 13:57

I think Jenny may have something to do with it, she finds out that Harry was having a relationship with Nola and is jealous.

bimbobaggins · 18/10/2018 17:45

I’ve just watched this weeks episode and I’m also as confused as ever. I’m usually quite good at guessing these things but I’m clueless and also wondering if it’s been hq all along

diddl · 18/10/2018 20:30

I've just watched ep 5 & think I'm past caring!

5 more to go??

I don't understand why he went away with her when he knew that the note he had written was gone & also feels he is being watched.

HQ is just horrible. Maybe Nola wrote the book?

Also, Marcus & the policeman now know that Nola was seeing HQ at that time-so why do they also still think that she was seeing Stern?

Luther Caleb was painting her-so isn't that the reason she kept going there?

Presumably she was paid for sitting-or blackmailed to do it?

TwistedStitch · 18/10/2018 21:24

HQ is just horrible

Yep. I'm enjoying this for the whodunnit but HQ is a total creep. I think we are supposed to be rooting for him but he is so unlikeable. Then again I hated Derek Shepherd too so maybe it's the actor!

ExCharlieBucket · 19/10/2018 13:41

The young author guy is totally irritating. What with the floppy hair writer look? He’s about ten and Super Annoying.

cleanupinaisle7 · 19/10/2018 16:02

are we supposed to be rooting for HQ? I think they've made a point of making him really unlikable!

diddl · 19/10/2018 16:15

Maybe we're supposed to like HQ enough to hope that he didn't kill Nola?

Also when they were away together & she said that noone was looking/staring at them.

No, of course not, because they probably think that you're with your dad!

I mean is the whole town supposed to be so full of yokels that there's only a 15yr old that he could possibly have anything in common withHmm?

Also, if the book is about his feelings for her-would it really be such a success or a bit passe?

TwistedStitch · 19/10/2018 16:48

Also he is supposed to be 34 in the flashbacks? Patrick Dempsey is 52 which doesn't really help with the queasiness at their relationship.
