Des and Curly were in Blackpool,Des abandoned Curly to go in search of Lisa ,and ended up.having Xmas dinner at her house ,curly had it on his own at the Hotel ,another party took pity on him and insisted he join them! Bet, Rita,Raquel, Phyllis and Denise had Xmas Dinner at the Rovers, amazing how quickly Denise has become part of the street Hmm, and had lots of laughs etc, Gail and Martin,Alf and Audrey, Don and Ivy and kids where all having Xmas dinner at Gail and Martin ,s when the doorbell goes and Carmel returns with some flimsy excuse about not wanting to go home and see "Michael" so didn't go back to Ireland , she's looking increasingly unhinged but Gails oblivious there were a few scenes in the Rovers but that's about the jist of Xmas day!

x2boys · 17/07/2019 10:23

Oh and Mike Turned up at Maggie Redman,s with a present for Mark ,it appeared to be a present for a much younger child imoHmmhe was pretending to be a delivery driver and Ken answered the door! Nicky also got a present of a toy car ,which as the parent of a 12_yr old boy myself seemed to be far to young for him? Not sure what 11,12 yr old boys were into in the early 90,s but my son would look at me like this Confusedif I gave him a toy car for Xmas

thenightsky · 17/07/2019 11:21

I love the scenes between the stronger women characters. Witty, clever and well-written. Perhaps the old writers should be brought out of retirement.

InterdimensionalHoleOfPancakes · 17/07/2019 11:46

Thank you x2boys great summary. The last thing I remember seeing was Des turning up at Lisa's parents and getting mistaken for a relative and Alma being upset with Mike about the present for Mark so I definitely missed some. Thanks for the recap, gutted I missed it!

thenightsky · 17/07/2019 13:42

I missed the same episode too.

Looks like its not on this afternoon at all - was on at 6am this morning!

justthecat · 17/07/2019 13:57

Supposed to be on 2.15 today

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 17/07/2019 14:32

It's on right now. I'm watching it!

(Just enduring the interminable tedious ad break Angry)

justthecat · 17/07/2019 14:44

Go Gail !!

HelloGabriel · 19/07/2019 15:52

What was inside the present Des gave to Lisa on the promenade? She was in tears and said she knew what it was and it was be best Christmas ever??

Can't be a bloody engagement ring surely?

SapatSea · 19/07/2019 16:04

We didn't find out. I guess Des showing up was the best present. Vera is going to go ballistic

x2boys · 19/07/2019 22:10

And the prize for the most fabulous insult goes to.Tracy , "Rotten Cowing Tart" 😂😂

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 20/07/2019 15:56

It's strange, but when these episodes first aired in the 90s, I really disliked Des.

Watching the episodes again, almost 30 years later, I really like him.

He's actually a very nice man - and I'm a little bit in love with him Blush

x2boys · 20/07/2019 16:14

Yeah strange how your tastes as you get older, not many men irl, would get involved with a mum with such a young baby , plus all the hassle with Vera and "our Terry "

HelenaDove · 21/07/2019 02:15

Wait till the Racquel Des Tanya "love triangle" I have a feeling your opinion will shift again.

ConfCall · 21/07/2019 21:36

I was also surprised at the age-inappropriate toy car. Maybe it was meant to reflect Mike’s lack of experience with children.

A bit confused re Vicky, who seems to have aged 24 months in the space of 12. When she was orphaned it was mentioned that she was younger than Tracy, who’s not yet 16. Or have I got that wrong?

Can’t wait for Alec to return. I love him and Bet together.

Maureen must be imminent. And Denise Welch’s character. And Tina Hobley’s. They were all mid-1990s I think.

Loved Sally organisimg the petition - hints of what she’ll be like in middle age!

x2boys · 21/07/2019 21:45

I thought Vicky and Tracy were the same age ?I think Tracy is nearly 16 in "Classic Corrie" in fact I think Tracy will g going through her rebellious phase soon?

thenightsky · 21/07/2019 22:12

I thought Vicky and Tracey were the same age too.

DaveCoachesgavemetheclap · 22/07/2019 07:16

Looking forward to Sherrie Hewson arriving- she and Reg were comedy gold!

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 22/07/2019 10:59

Oooh yes! Natalie Horrocks!

She was a proper cougar who led Kevin astray.

Lots of scenes featuring Kev with no shirt on - can't wait! WinkBlush

Iwantacampervan · 23/07/2019 09:49

Sherrie Hewson appeared in March 1993, so not long now.
According to info on the internet Tracy and Vicky were both born in January 1977 (this could have been rewritten to fit in with the storylines), they'll be 16 in the next few weeks/episodes.

DaveCoachesgavemetheclap · 23/07/2019 15:10

Why does Traceyluv fancy Doug (?). I nearly choked on my tea when her friend said to Tracey "He's out of your league" Hmm He's a haggard old git. Confused

justthecat · 23/07/2019 15:27

Because Doug is a pop star !! ( flying pickets)

ConfCall · 23/07/2019 18:28

Doug and Mrs Thatcher didn’t see eye-to-eye ... she declared herself a fan of “Only You” but the band were actual picketers who loudly supported the striking miners in the 1980s and donated money to them, so they weren’t keen on this endorsement!

He’d have been well over 40 when he was in CS. As if Tracy and Debbie would have fancied Doug! He’s hardly a hot Peter Barlow type middle-aged guy.

Loving how ID isn’t checked. Exactly how I remember it! The waitress in the bikini top and shorts too - I recall places doing that. Not great but glad it’s no longer acceptable in mainstream clubs.

Housewife2010 · 23/07/2019 22:02

The boy who plays Mark is a useless actor. I remember reading that his age was changed slightly so he would be in the same class as Nicky.

x2boys · 24/07/2019 07:45

Yes they upped his age by two years for the storyline apparently , he is a crap actor but than so is the actor who played Nicky ,utterly dreadful!
