So, classic Eastenders starts airing on the UKTV Drama channel from tomorrow! Two episodes from noon, and they’ll also be on UKTV catchup.

Use this thread to talk about Den, Angie, Arthur, poodle perms, poor fashion choices and Ethel’s Willy.

OP posts:

Is this still showing on Drama??

x2boys · 23/04/2019 18:03

Yes it was on today ,just was ent over the Easter bank holidays.

Akire · 23/04/2019 21:40

Where exactly is Den supposed to be and why? Because he admitted to burning club?

gower4 · 23/04/2019 22:03

He's supposed to be hiding out in a "safe house" while the firm organises a change of identity so he can go on the run. So he is seen as guilty of arson and the firm is off the hook.

In reality they're planning to kill him.

Basically the worst storyline ever.

x2boys · 25/04/2019 10:20

Yeah ,they are dragging the Den and firm story line out ,I thought it was a touching scene with Colin and Dot yesterday when he gave her the money everyone had collected for her .

Limer · 25/04/2019 17:36

Den being given a new identity and the arson appearing on Crimewatch, it’s like something out of James Bond! I really rate Leslie Grantham as an actor, but I can see the incredulity in his face when he's delivering his lines these days!

I’d forgotten about Frank’s mum Mo, it’s great to have another cantankerous old witch on the scene Grin I liked to see Pat standing up for herself!

gower4 · 25/04/2019 17:39

@Limer totally agree re Den. And the whole Christine storyline is just wrong, wrong, wrong. She's awful!!

Limer · 29/04/2019 15:40

Yuk at the prison scenes, all that homophobia. And why have mini-Porridge episodes like that, introducing loads of new prison characters? Would have been far more effective having people in the Square speculating about Den in his absence.

I’m confused about Matthew moving in with Carmel, that seems to have happened very fast! And he’s got a stolen stereo off Darren – LOL.

I don’t buy Dr Legg being afraid of telling Colin he’s got MS either. He’s been a GP for decades, it’s his job!

Akire · 29/04/2019 22:11

Think back then MS was something that nothing could be done for. So he is right in that he may not have enough relapse for years or ever- it was quite common not to tell people about serious illness. Even things like Cancer as not to worry the patient. I guessed MS ages ago mind.

I must have missed one with Den being in prison. No idea of plot or new people either. Can’t believe not just thrown Donna out either. She’s just annoying

x2boys · 30/04/2019 08:34

Doesn't seem very ethical,if Colin believes he is HIV postive,(as it was life limiting in the 80,s) when actually it's MS?My mum's best friend had MS in the 80,s she did eventually die from it but for a long time she was ok.

gower4 · 30/04/2019 09:50

Agreed @x2boys! We knew someone who'd had MS since the 60s and she lived a fulfilling life until she died in the 90s.

I do remember the storyline at the time though and apparently there was a school of thought that it was better not to tell people. It's so cruel!

Limer · 30/04/2019 15:33

Good points about MS diagnoses in the 80s. The not-telling-Colin seems to be an ongoing storyline now. I had no idea that doctors played God like that (do they still?) Surely Colin will have another episode of illness at some point, and once again start worrying about AIDS?

I like Dot being Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator, lots of comedy potential there!

Yes, Donna’s extremely annoying! I’ve just realized why she looks so familiar, she was Mr Bean’s girlfriend for a while.

How long is Den going to be on remand for, so how long are we going to be seeing boring prison scenes? Den made a comment today that it might be weeks yet before his trial!

And now Mo Butcher has arrived for good! I guess now that Lou’s gone, there’s a vacancy for an interfering old harridan – bring it on Grin

gower4 · 30/04/2019 18:57

Prison goes on for ages! I think we're at around September 1988 and he dissent get shot by daffodils until the end of Feb 1989 Grin

x2boys · 01/05/2019 10:02

Bit of an ethical.dilemma with Colin and MS, whilst he might be fine for years there is no guarantee of that .,Donna is incredibly annoying she's just a pointless character ,the prison scenes some a bit incongruous with the rest of the show!

gower4 · 01/05/2019 10:38

Although we know now that Colin comes back to see Dot in 2017 looking fit and healthy, so maybe Legg was right all along ConfusedHmmHmm

x2boys · 01/05/2019 10:40

Well yes but he didn't have a Crystal ballGrin

gower4 · 01/05/2019 20:27

Is it only one episode per day at the moment?

Limer · 01/05/2019 23:03

I'm sick of the prison stuff already! Why wouldn't Den just write to Sharon and explain why he didn't want her to visit? I haven't really fathomed why Den has suddenly placed so much trust in Pat tbh. They go back a long way, but they've never liked each other, and Den wasn't particularly nice to Pat when he was her boss.

I'm still getting two episodes per day, 13:00 and 13:40 on Drama channel (set to record for the foreseeable future).

MashedSpud · 01/05/2019 23:07

Bored of the Den storyline so will check back here instead of watching for a while.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/05/2019 16:54

I caught some it today , Pat was talking to someone and I thought there was a Christmas Tree in the background ! Cannot be Christmas already ?

Missed most of the next episode (fell asleep) but woke up to see Pauline berating Wicksey about spending Christmas with them (or if he had his way , NOT spending Christmas with the Fowlers) . Xmas Grin

Need to see if its on Catch Up

tobee · 14/05/2019 15:39

I'm way behind! Have loads to catch up on. Hooray!

But just wanted to say I'd forgotten about Frank's habit of wearing a jumper or cardigan with nothing but his hairy chest and gold chain on underneath before the pub opens 🤮And then putting his shirt on underneath later. I just imagine him being all sweaty smelling! Grin

Sux2buthen · 14/05/2019 16:34

When I was younger mum used to loathe Pauline and now I'm watching as an adult I totally get it. What a bloody misery! Head of the family Hmmwhat a load of shite.
I love pat though

Limer · 14/05/2019 17:01

It’s more like The Bill with all the police and prison storylines!

And yes, it’s only 3 weeks until Christmas (so it’ll be turkey & all the trimmings on Friday?)

Agreed about Frank wearing just his jumper – yuk. Double yuk for him reading out all those awful sexist jokes about marriage. And Pat sometimes wears just a jumper for serving behind the bar – especially at lunchtimes.

Ricky looks so young, I remember him with Bianca which must still be a couple of years away.

I love Pat too and can’t stand Pauline!

gower4 · 14/05/2019 19:45

I'm way behind as well! Just catching up now. I agree about prison being boring, but I'm gutted that Den will be going soon - feels like the end of an era all over again!!

tobee · 15/05/2019 00:28

The annoying thing about Pauline is Dr Legg going on about what a tough time she has all the time. I know she has a lot of stuff going on but she IS pretty miserable, most of the time. In her cardy. Grin
