So, classic Eastenders starts airing on the UKTV Drama channel from tomorrow! Two episodes from noon, and they’ll also be on UKTV catchup.

Use this thread to talk about Den, Angie, Arthur, poodle perms, poor fashion choices and Ethel’s Willy.

Also, has anyone else noticed how much Den uses the word "Cowson" Grin

And how much Pat fancies Den

x2boys · 02/02/2019 18:48

I think the back story i s Pat had a fling with Den and Simon could have been his?

Akire · 02/02/2019 20:07

Ew no do you think? I’ve never seen a flicker of interest!

tobee · 03/02/2019 00:44

Glad people are still watching! I watch a group of episodes on catch up and am still a bit behind.

I was wondering how long I'll keep watching for. I keep remembering all the up and coming storylines over the years and thinking "can I cope with watching all the trauma ahead again?" GrinGrinGrin

Btw

When Pat first turned up at the Vic she said (to someone) that she'd had a fling with Den in the past. He was quite flirty with her.

Also when Charlie Cotton came back to Dot she mentioned that it must've been because Charlie had been chucked out by Rose.

Sometimes I think today's writers occasionally look at the original character storylines and think "what can we take from this?"

I think Michael Cashman said that when he was being cast they had 2 years worth of storylines for him. Plus I think they certainly used to have fully fleshed out back stories.

gower4 · 03/02/2019 14:51

I think she was meant to have had a fling with Den years ago, but there's been lots of talk about how she's lost her figure and her looks.

He doesn't seem remotely interested now, I agree!

tobee · 04/02/2019 02:24

There's quite a lot of bad acting (especially the bit parts) and a few times the boom mic bouncing in and out of shot. Shock

gower4 · 04/02/2019 08:18

Tina's a terrible actress

x2boys · 04/02/2019 09:12

Yes she is Gower no wonder I can't remember her from the first time around has she ever been in anything else?

gower4 · 04/02/2019 11:25

I don't know - I doubt it!!

Michelle is quite good but has anyone else notice how often she forgets a line and goes back and corrects herself??

Dare I say it, I think Anita Dobson overacts. Leslie Grantham way better in my opinion.

x2boys · 04/02/2019 12:26

I haven't noticed that about Michelle ,but I will look out for it now ! Yes Anita Dobson definitely over acts particularly in that two hander with Lee e Grantham !

gower4 · 04/02/2019 18:47

Yes! I remember thinking that two-hander was amazing when I watched it first time round (age 9) Confused and again over the years, but Anita Dobson actually wasn't very good in it.

tobee · 04/02/2019 21:43

Lots of fluffing of lines. Tom said something too early the other day. Answering a question just before he was asked I think Grin. Donald Tandy seems to have been an experienced tv actor but I think it was/is a shock if you're used to doing a 6 episode sitcom or whatever, with lots of rehearsal time and plenty of retakes and then 2 x episodes of 1/2 hour 52 weeks a year on a soap.

I was looking up about 2 handers which were apparently made to catch up, other actors doing other scenes on other parts of the set.

Poor old Tina. She looks exactly right, her character is quite good. Her delivery, somewhat wooden.

Akire · 05/02/2019 00:44

Felt really sorry for Mary, the health visitor was awful too. As if Child’s health not be impacted by being dragged away to grandparents forever.
Looking forward to seeing how Ian makes his fortune from part time work in the Vic.

Considering how little money people make £2.80 for service wash is a huge amount yet no one has washing machine. Though guess more expensive then.

Still can’t work out why Pete has been wearing silly hat for months.

x2boys · 05/02/2019 08:29

I know there's a few bits and bobs I can't work out like how Mary became friends with her "punk" friends etcConfused When I was a students nurse in the early 90,s I had a placement with 'the health visitors ,I think it would be was highly unlikely that they would live in such close proximity to where they worked and Carmel said she was employed by the council, the health visitors I worked with were employed by the NHS not sure if things had changed ?

Did anyone see today's football match episode? Totally weird! I just have missed that one first time around. Must be summer holidays?

Akire · 05/02/2019 21:07

Yes watching it now, very strange. Not a football fan so seems really to much of it, but guess it’s supoosed to be “working class” and of its time.

x2boys · 06/02/2019 10:43

Yes odd episode , there are some thing s I remember really well , i.remember Pauline winning the glamouros granny competition and thinking it was odd as she refused to dress glamouresly I also 'remember Pete dressing up in drag and no one else did but some things I have completely blanked, I can't remember either Magda or Tom from the first time around

x2boys · 07/02/2019 20:39

OMG Frank Butcher!!!

gower4 · 08/02/2019 09:48

New era now Frank's here

Limer · 08/02/2019 12:03

The football match was really strange, also there were no other spectators at all apart from cast members. I get the impression that they didn't have too many extras, there are always a few shoppers about in the outdoor scenes, but loads of the pub scenes have a line equivalent to "bit quiet in here today" to excuse the absence of other customers!

Oooooh Frank!!! I didn't remember how he came back, classic Eastenders plot line to shoe-horn him into a ladies darts team pre-match jolly!

x2boys · 08/02/2019 12:12

I.always think the extras stand out more because they don't have any lines to say they look comical mumbling and miming with each other

gower4 · 08/02/2019 12:36

I think if this was real life (over-invested?? ), Den and Angie so obviously would have got back together and just made do!

x2boys · 08/02/2019 13:20

Oh definitely gower Grin

x2boys · 08/02/2019 19:59

Why does Frank say he has 3 kids ??Hmm
