They shouldve just carried on from Cutting It. This is just so badly written it makes me cringe. The actors are worth so much more.

EachandEveryone · 09/08/2018 19:51

However, i do love abit of Northern Soul. I miss Manchester I spent my student years there.

OneInAMillionYou · 09/08/2018 20:05

God, this is rubbish!

PP got it right when they described the script as 'clunky'. How on earth does such bad writing and plot construction make it to prime time BBC1?

Deleted from my planner now, it's not even in that 'so bad it's good' category!

Missushb · 09/08/2018 21:10

Am I right in thinking it was suggested Dante is the son of Teddy?! Daddy o, paying his bills and something about that's not the only reason I came to find you? It was a fleeting scene but I thought that's what they meant?

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 11/08/2018 04:23

This won't be popular judging by the thread but I quite like it. Haven't seen Cutting It though.I like how Bel's dad understands and relates to her. And the brother-in-law's long game is chilling. But what I don't get at all is how the rest of the family tolerate her vile toxic sister, can't remember her name, that wouldn't happen in RL surely, she'd be ostracised.

I love the Northern Quarter in RL and don't live too far from it. Enjoying the way it's filmed.

Exactly like Eastenders where stall holders own 3-story Edwardians in central London Wink.

mydogisthebest · 11/08/2018 08:34

I think a child could write better scripts.

It's all so silly and far fetched. It would make a bit better sense if Robson Green had bribed the girl to have an affair with the married guy. How could anyone be so sure that just because she had a fit attractive man fitting a new kitchen they would have to fell into bed together?

The married guy is pathetic. After a couple of weeks he would give up his wife and children for some young girl who he probably has nothing in common with. Pathetic too that she said she doesn't sleep with married men but then does and wants him to leave his wife

Purplemond · 11/08/2018 15:14

just caught up with this, its not great drama but at least something to watch
what is the relationship between Teddy and Dante ?

SavageBeauty73 · 13/08/2018 22:50

Blimey. Doesn't do older women any favours. I love Polly Walker in most roles but her pick me behaviour made me sick. And her husband who's been devoted fell into an affair when she had been back at work for a day. The long game of RG is unbelievable.

And yes I will be watching tomorrow. Wish they had brought back Cutting It. It was quality.

SavageBeauty73 · 14/08/2018 21:10

Anyone still watching?

VanGoghsDog · 14/08/2018 21:33

It's shockingly bad.

I can't work out who knows what now and why does everyone keep interfering in everyone else's relationships but ignoring the stupid sister.

Why doesn't she just leave her shagging husband? All this silly revenge stuff is just dull.

SavageBeauty73 · 14/08/2018 21:38

It's seriously dire

Timefortea99 · 14/08/2018 22:03

So Dante is his son? How, why, what?

forgivenminds · 14/08/2018 22:07

Is it a 4 partner or 6 episodes not sure I can follow another 3 episodes.

VanGoghsDog · 14/08/2018 23:57

Isn't gym girl Dante's sister then?

groundcontroltomontydon · 15/08/2018 00:37

It's very cartoon morality play ish and the script is so poor I'm embarrassed for the writer. It looks great though and I'm still watching if only for the cracking cast and lovely kitchens.

icelollycraving · 15/08/2018 08:19

It is shit but I know I’ll watch it all Blush
Wes does look a lot younger than his wife. RG looks a similar age to her though, I love Polly Walker. I’m surprised she touched this with a barge pole.
The sister is so spiteful, she’d get called out on that.

They must have paid a lot. Some bits are so cringey, the dance sequence etc. I love a bit of dross so I’ll stick with it!

HannahnotAgnes · 15/08/2018 23:16

Just googled - PW is 52, RG 53 & James Murray 42 so no wonder they don't look right. Could hardly be married 30 years if he's only 42 Angry

VanGoghsDog · 15/08/2018 23:35

What dance sequence?

emsiewill · 16/08/2018 09:11

This programme is seriously awful! I can't believe they let the spiteful sister just go on and on being so nasty and poisonous without anyone calling her out on it.

And the whole PT/affair/Robson Green storyline is ridiculous.

In fact the whole thing is stupid and annoying. But I haven't deleted my series link...I despair of myself sometimes!

MrsA6 · 17/08/2018 08:25

I just find the characters so unbelievable - they're like caricatures. The older sister, the bitchy sister, the gothy sister and the ditzy sister.

diddl · 17/08/2018 09:00

I haven't watched this-probably won't bother now, but Cutting It was very silly wasn't it?

Why SP.s character left her husband I never understood.
(Although I guess that there would have been no series if that hadn't happened)
And then he ended up with their daughter-ridiculous!

Didn't SP meet her husband (JM) on CI?

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/08/2018 14:55

I’m enjoying it. Seem to be the only one

Did love cutting it

Similar storyline

Not sure why she stays with cheating hubby

He did look out of place when with trainers friends

Dobson green is conniving - love seeing KELLY Harrison in this - NIKKI from casualty - she’s local to me and met her a few times

Weird everyone beleive the blonde sister

And mum pushed dad out of the window. 🙀🙀🙀

MrsGrindah · 17/08/2018 15:30

It is absolutely dreadful...but I’m watching it as I’m fascinated by how dreadful it is. It’s like a script written by a sixth form drama club.
Very surprised at an actress of Sue Johnston’s calibre going anywhere near this.

1forAll74 · 17/08/2018 15:54

I am enjoying this series, mainly as it is a Northern thing, good shots of Manchester. I don't think the programme is to be taken seriously..its just your everyday tale of people having affairs, family strife, and some silly situations.and odd ball characters. Its not meant to be a Dr Foster type drama.
