Thank God for some great ff at the moment, esp from my all time favourites, the brilliant Itsembarrassing, Greenstuff and Jenmc Smile

Bonnefoi · 18/08/2018 19:45

I get very happy when Justice for Molly is updated. There’s been quite a few new good stories started recently as well. All helps with maintaining my series 3 never happened denial bubble. Wink

eejittwo · 18/08/2018 22:01

Some ff is not so good - for instance, what's this about turning Georgie's dad into a doctor? NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

kazzaD66 · 19/08/2018 12:30

rhu I am so behind with ff, what with being away and the school holidays in general, that I'm desperately trying to catch up from the end of June! I've just settled down for half an hour to read Summers End and it's not there anymore! I see from the reviews that you have finished it and you say you've now published it - well done Smile - but I don't have a kindle, so does this mean I won't be able to finish reading your fabulous story? Sad

Ilovelblue · 19/08/2018 23:39

Welcome back kazza. Hope you had a nice holiday. I think Rhu might be away at the moment.

Agree that there's some great ff around just now. Those three are my favourites too but there are some newcomers who are quite impressive too. There is one which features Bones and at first I didn't think I was going to like it, based purely on the fact that I did not like Bones' character in the series but it turned out to be quite different. Not only that but the author says English is not her first language. I realised she wasn't English but presumed she might be American (I think there are a couple of other American authors too) so to hear English was not her first language was quite impressive.

I've been catching up with some emails, online banking etc tonight and since there's been nothing of interest on television, I've been watching episode 3 of the Nepal/Afghan set. There are some shots of Elvis when he's consoling CJ after Azizi dies that still manage to make my heart beat just a little bit faster.

eejittwo · 20/08/2018 07:15

ilove, I may have mentioned it before, but the CJ-Elvis chats in Series 2 and 3 are one of the joys of the series. They give an opportunity to give a view of CJ as a person and not as an officer.

Rhubarb01 · 20/08/2018 20:10

Evening all! Yes ilove you're right I have been away for a few days down in deepest, darkest Cornwall also known as No Wi-Fi Land - or at least it is if you're staying the bottom of a steep hill! I decided to take the kids on a short break to break up the school holidays as we aren't going on a longer holiday this summer because we already had a trip to Berlin in May. All in all it wasn't too bad, the weather was reasonable and they didn't moan too much so that passes for OK.

Kazza I'm so sorry about the removal of the story from FF. I left it for a month, hoping everyone who wanted to would be able to read it as I didn't want to annoy people by whipping it off the site like a shot. In answer to your question, you don't need a Kindle to download the story. You can download onto a phone, tablet or PC as long as you have downloaded the free Kindle reading app first. As I have a kindle myself, I haven't had to try this but I think that when you log into your amazon account you can set the details of the devices you are using. Hopefully, this might help. It is possible to provide the option of a print-to-order paperback but given the length of the story I was concerned that it might work out pretty expensive for anyone to buy. I may look at that a little bit later on.

Thanks for your interest and sorry again about it not being available anymore.

eejittwo · 23/08/2018 19:00

Ladies - I see that Danny Boyle has withdrawn from directing the next Bond movie which, of course, has provoked speculation whether Daniel Craig will still be in the next one.
I've had a wicked thought. Yeah, I know that LP looks good in a tux as well as the action stuff, but how about Ollie Rix for 007, to make up for being blown to smithereens in Bangladesh?

Rhubarb01 · 23/08/2018 19:49

Now eejit you are opening a whole can of worms with your James Bond musings!

We have previously debated who should replace Daniel Craig a few times with one fairly obvious suggestion as CJ/BA can certainly do the suave and handsome look not to mention he's skilled in action too. My usual complaint about the James Bond actor choices are that they are signing up actors who are too old at the start of the run.

Apparently DC was committed to five films but as it takes 2-3 years to make each one, in my opinion, they all look a bit too old for the part by the last two films (for what it's worth it's not just me seeing it from a woman's eye-candy point of view as DH agreed that he looked a bit too long in the tooth as well). I've liked DC in the role (especially the first three films) and he's a great actor but I thought he was looking a bit craggy in the last film and was really surprised he was going to make another. I think they should choose an actor no older than about 35 for the role - can't imagine who could fit the bill....

kazzaD66 · 23/08/2018 21:42

I know I'm a bit late in the day and everyone has moved on but I've finally just watched Ep 8. Tbh, I'd probably have stopped watching a long time ago if it wasn't for BA Grin I can't say I'd even watch it for CJ, given how crap he has turned out! His whole character has been assassinated by TG, as has those of Molly and even Georgie. CJ has just become weak and completely unprincipled - what happened to 'waiting out' CJ??Hmm . Molly had to! If it wasn't for BA's interviews, I wouldn't really know CJ had PTSD. That should have been explored much more and explicitly, imo. Molly has been made to be the villain here Angry . Georgie just got more annoying as the series has gone on, forever going off piste and taking over everything. Why is she involved in everything and always giving orders? Kingy is her superior but is just sidelined. Plus, she's been made to look like a bit of a slap, working her way through men like they were going out of fashion! Also.....Charlie, Charlie, Charlie.....Aaaarrgghhh Angry
There was absolutely no need for another romance for Georgie (she's still wearing Elvis' ring round her neck and has told Maisie she misses him every day!) and certainly not with CJ. We all know LT was never coming back but that doesn't mean that TG needed to split Molly and CJ up. They could never serve together, so they couldn't be on screen together unless you saw some home life. You never see Kingy's family but he's always talking about them. Why couldn't that have happened to CJ and Molly? CJ now looks like a real tosser! I saw the interview with BA where he said the cast were surprised with the marriage break up storyline - did BA and MK really not have the clout to say to TG....really, are you sure about this storyline, we don't think you're being true to our characters?!
I don't want there to be another series, esp if it still has CJ and Georgie in it. They have zero romantic chemistry, esp when you go back to Molly and CJ, the looks and sentiments - sometimes no words were needed.

Anyway, enough of my ranting for now Grin Now watching Celebrity Masterchef, whilst trying to ignore the crass, shouty turnip head that is the greengrocer who shall not be named Wink

Ilovelblue · 23/08/2018 23:03

Oh kazza we feel your pain. I have no idea how much input the actors have into their characters but I certainly agree (as I am sure we all do) that TG has assassinated the lovely CJ's character. I seem to recall commenting when we did our watchalong that it was odd Georgie had Elvis' ring on a chain round her neck whilst doing the deed with "Charlie". It somehow seemed disrespectful to both CJ and Elvis. You can't tell me she had gone to CJ's quarters without thinking how it was going to end up!

eejit and Rhu - you know what, I could cope with Olly Rix, BA or Luke P as 007. I'd never considered Olly Rix at all until eejit mentioned it but he could be quite suave as Bond and also a bit round the edges too when necessary. Rather a nice thought actually. I didn't like the character of Bones and as I'd never seen Olly Rix in anything else, I never really thought of him as a person, just a character if you know what I mean.

Ollie scrubbed up quite nicely for the garden party, as I recall, ilove.
Oh kazza, now you know how some of us felt when TG murdered Elvis! Sad Although I've yet to watch series 1 (anyone planning a watchalong anytime soon?), I did feel that CJ had been made to look a bit of a cad. And you're right - between Kingy's family, and Monk's girlfriend, and even Georgie manages the odd reference to her ghastly family (except for Lulu, the youngest sister, who is ACE), there's no reason why we couldn't have had more digital Molly in series 3. The whole thing with Georgie just looked so artificial and contrived and straight out of soapland - and not a good soap at that. Maybe El Dorado, or whatever that dire thing set in the Costa Brava or wherever was called - and while I've just reminded myself of it, does anyone else remember Triangle? Argh! That'll give me nightmares tonight! Grin

Rhubarb01 · 24/08/2018 00:21

Larry Lamb, Kate O'Mara, North Sea Ferries

No, don't remember it at all eejit Grin

kazzaD66 · 24/08/2018 00:46

Aahh, Triangle Grin Wasn't one point somewhere like Felixstowe, then another Hook of Holland or suchlike? So where was the third stop off? There has to be three for it to be a triangle Grin No, I don't remember the show either, I'm far to young! Confused

Magi84 · 24/08/2018 07:48

Kazza just wanted to say your summing up of OG after watching episode 8 expressed exactly my feelings you covered absolutely everything. I think all of us on here have been feeling totally letdown and a bit deflated by how it all turned out.

Can't help thinking TG was influenced to change things at the end for whatever reason - probably by some soap land producer! However no use going on about it I suppose but just wanted to thank you for your synopsis as somehow it made me feel better.😊

Bonnefoi · 24/08/2018 09:28

Agree with all points made, Kazza. SmileThere's a large part of me that doesn't want to watch a new series. I mean, I will, because of BA but not with any particular excitement or looking forward to it like I used to.

I'm not sure there really is a way to fix C.J. even if TG was in a mind to do it. HmmConfused

You have to give TG certain kudos. He's very, very good at stirring up his audience.

Flowerfan · 24/08/2018 11:08

I agree with You all but am a die hard fan of BA and like Bonnefoi will watch just for him.
If he even wants to do another series.
TG certainly tries to get the BBC to notice the audience OG has, we will have to wait and see.
Have a good weekend all.

kazzaD66 · 24/08/2018 14:40

Yes eejit the whole of the last series just descended into soapier chaos week by week. Storylines became ridiculous, characters became unrecognisable and any links to reality became more tenuous. I know I've queried the role before of SF and the fact that there only seems to be one SF unit in the whole British Army Govt cutbacks biting! but they were really being shoehorned in towards the end! Okay, so they offered a bit of light relief (Lawrence of **ing Arabia and Spanner's trip to the barbers) but.....why? Why do 2 Section and sometimes SF have to get involved in EVERYTHING? ! In Afghan, it was clear that they were there to assist the Afghan army but in Bangladesh, for example, they were running the whole show, despite repeatedly being told it was a local issue that didn't concern them. They were meant to be there on a humanitarian mission aiding the NGO and refugees and yet they were running around as if they owned the place, with no Bangladeshi army or SF in sight! CJ even said the men who had taken the boy were known to Bangladeshi SF, so why didn't they carry out the extraction mission instead? I know, it's not RL, but trying to stay attached to a bit of reality every now and then would be good.
And can someone tell me how Spanner transports his guitar everywhere or does he just have one in every port? Grin

Bonnefoi · 24/08/2018 15:22

I always wondered why in OG world the British Army rank of Lieutenant somehow ceased to exist. Also, shouldn't C.J. be a Major now? Both of these points bug me for stupid reasons.

But then I don't think I'm TG target audiences anymore. I laughed when Georgie picked up Bones' bloody medals (super cheesy) I think I was supposed to be upset not amused.Hmm

Don't even get me started on the river cliff jump. 🤦🏽‍♀️

kazzaD66 · 24/08/2018 16:51

Yes bonnefoi CJ should certainly be a Major by now, given his age and the fact that he was a star Captain (according to Beck) 4 years or more ago in Afghanistan. But then again, he's had a consistently bad run of luck since then, so I think he's lucky to still be in the army ConfusedHmmGrin

eejittwo · 24/08/2018 18:14

Bonnefoi, whether you, I or anyone else is the 'target' audience or not is, ultimately, immaterial to the Beeb. What matters is those who actually watch it and how many they are. We watched the series and, boy, can we pick holes in the last few episodes.

SleepyMcEdie · 24/08/2018 19:33

Oooo found some fellow Our Girl fans!

I’ve started watching Series 1 again this week so I can watch James and Molly fall in love all over again! I hate that they broke them up in the last series.

Ilovelblue · 24/08/2018 22:51

Evening all and welcome to Sleepy. You're among friends here, though slightly disgruntled ones just now, seeing the way CJ's character is taking a nose dive.

OP posts:
Ilovelblue · 24/08/2018 23:41

Triangle! Wasn't the third port somewhere in Denmark? Heavens, that takes me back. Is it very wrong of me to confess that I may have had a teeny-weeny crush on Larry Lamb in that?

kazza about Spanner's guitar, I know that after Elvis had been in hospital in Mombasa and they were all sitting round together having a bbq and Elvis was allowed to pick the first song, I commented at the time that his guitar did not appear to come off the helicopter with them all when they arrived to rescue Georgie. I did like those scenes with Spanner and his new boss when they were rescuing that woman in the back of the barber's shop. They made me laugh. I loved it when Peanut leans out of the car and said "Remind me what you're doing with your downtime".

eejit if anyone else (by that, I suppose I must mean Rhu) fancies doing another watchalong of series 1, I'm up for that.

OP posts:
kazzaD66 · 25/08/2018 11:14

ilove snap! I also had a bit of a crush on Larry Lamb just didn't want to admit it in my earlier post Blush

As to the mystery of Spanner's guitar, perhaps it's a special SF's one that neatly folds up like a Swiss Army knife, to be easily stored in his rucksack (along with the woman they saved! It's a good job he wasn't trying to rescue me cos he need a bigger rucksack and the rest of the team to help him carry me Confused ). I still prefer the idea that he keeps a guitar in every port, though. Much like Bones had a girl in every port and CJ has a medic in every med tent (watch out Ruby!) Grin
