So how many more of us are outing ourselves as Larry Lamb crushees? -Who? Me?- Smile

Ilovelblue · 25/08/2018 23:21

I can see why I liked him at the time. Looks a bit different now. The years haven't been too kind to him.

Spanner's guitar will have to remain a mystery kazza. A bit like that watch of Elvis' which told the time of sunrise and sunset in every war torn area of the world. Maybe "climbing into Spanner's rucksack" is a euphemism?

ilove GrinGrin to all of the above

eejittwo · 26/08/2018 11:18

It's the uniform ilove, for the young Larry Lamb.
As for the watch, I'll have to go back and investigate whether Bones and the new SF guy have similar ones.

Bonnefoi · 26/08/2018 12:06

I actually liked the SF parts in that episode. Blue and the Laurence of Arabia remark with the little CJ smirk at him on the radio was lovely.Grin

But I did remembering thinking there was no way that actress was going to fit into that rucksack without dismembered. 🤭Confused

Delphin · 26/08/2018 15:42

Well, after having seen the contortionist at the London Eye, I do believe she could have fit in the bergen!

Ilovelblue · 26/08/2018 21:59

Bonnefoi I loved SF in that last episode. Blue was a completely different type of character to Elvis and Bones and I thought they managed to lighten the mood with some of their lines. The "Lawrence of Arabia" comment really made me laugh.

I did have a quick look at lunchtime eejit and didn't think that Blue's watch was of the same category as Elvis' "tells the time and sunrise all over the world" variety. I never went back as far as looking at Bones' watch though.

Has anyone been watching Bodyguard on BBC1? Looks as if it will be quite good.

The weather here has been dreadful and has barely stopped raining all day.

OP posts:
kazzaD66 · 26/08/2018 22:07

Just watched it ilove . The bodyguard has PTSD aswell - I wonder how that will show itself? Grin
Chucked it down all day here aswell, really cold also.

Ilovelblue · 26/08/2018 22:31

At midday, it was 11 C here! A month ago and it was more than 30 C!

Bodyguard is on again tomorrow I've set the series record in case I forget or fall asleep - either are possible!

Morning all! I meant to post a comment last night but fell asleep.

Yes, I enjoyed Bodyguard too and will definitely be watching the rest even if, like a few people on the Bodyguard thread, my first thought was that the train looked as if it belonged to the era of The Great Train Robbery. Nevertheless, that was a really tense and clever opener. I think they also did a good job of establishing David's PTSD and showing how it has affected his life and relationships and yet he's still managing to function in a high-pressure job - for now! Interested to see how things pan out with the upper-class disgruntled assistant with the curiously 'footballers wives' name of Chanel!

As for Larry Lamb, I suppose if you squint a bit at that black and white picture you can see a little of CJ in him - and I mean squint really hard - perhaps that was the attraction ilove?

Series 1 watchalong - yes most definitely, I will never tire of appreciating that series, so I'm happy to go along with another watchalong but Sunday nights might be a bit busy TV wise for a while as Vanity Fair is starting as well next week and it looks good. I can do pretty much any night as I'm usually in by 9pm from any taxiing jobs.

Well the weather has improved today as, like everyone else, it was chucking it down here yesterday. We are off out for a few hours later to meet family for some lunch and maybe a little walk with the dog, so I hope it stays dry. Have a good day everyone.

Bonnefoi · 27/08/2018 10:33

I really enjoyed Bodyguard. Rob Stark with Scottish accent was fab. Also did great job of the PTSD without having to send the actor out to interviews to constantly remind that his character had PTSD. OG take note. Grin

rhu I don't have an Amazon account and am a bit of a luddite when it comes to all things IT-connected so, unfortunately, it looks like I'll have to miss out on reading the end of your story Sad Don't know how many chapters I missed (I remember reading a chapter that ended at the Meryton ball and maybe one more after that, but can't be sure!). Reading the reviews, they seem to imply there may be a sequel? If so, maybe you could find it in your heart to repost the last couple of chapters as a refresh along with the new chapter? Wink
Have a great Bank Holiday Monday everyone!

Ladies, in another life, I noticed the following "Back in 1936 Walter Benjamin argued that works of art that are easily reproducible lose authenticity by being separated from their creator and from the space in which they are made; TV is less authentic than the theatre, a recording less so than a live performance. This lack of authenticity is perhaps accelerated if we do not invest so much of ourselves in the work by re-reading and re-listening so much." stumblingandmumbling.typepad.com
Well - obviously, they've never heard of Mumsnet and watchalongs, have they? Grin

Ilovelblue · 27/08/2018 23:25

eejit - it looks as if you've got yourself at least two volunteers for a series 1 watchalong - myself and Rhu - when do you want to do it? I'm a bit stuck this week but am ok next week onwards, though have to point out I'm away w/c 17 September.

Rhu - there's one issue with you saying if you squint, Larry Lamb has a vague resemblance to CJ and that is when Triangle first aired, BA wasn't even born! How old does that make us feel?

I've watched Bodyguard again tonight. Bit disappointed that the security officer ends up snogging the Home Secretary and more besides. Two episodes in? Hmmm. What did anyone else think? If you look on the Bodyguard thread here on MN, opinion seems to be divided.

OP posts:
kazzaD66 · 28/08/2018 08:27

ilove I was a bit hacked off that they ended up in bed together. DH said they'd been through a life and death situation, so they may well act like that Hmm but then they do it again! Ridiculous, as is the fact that he hasn't admitted he knows the gunman, when it's obvious the police /security forces will find the army link. Then it will look like they were in it together.

As to BA's DOB, I often listen to a favourite song or think back to a memorable event.....and then think - BA wasn't even a twinkle in his dad's eye then ConfusedGrin

Rhubarb01 · 28/08/2018 10:10

Morning. Yes, here is another one who rolled her eyes and said "Really!" when they decided to perform a FOXTROT in Bodyguard. To be honest he has no excuse the first time unless he genuinely is attracted to her because as he kept saying "Don't worry, Ma'am, this is what I'm trained for." As a professional who'd seen action it shouldn't have shaken him up that much or at least not enough that he couldn't cope - and he did seem a bit reluctant. I can understand KH's character being really affected by it but am somewhat surprised that she has absolutely no one else to call upon but him - possibly a counsellor, friend or close relative? Is she really that horrible?

As for the second time - well his motivations are now very unclear. Whereas she clearly has the hots for him, he's not only been asked to spy on her but he's also discovered that she knew his children's school was a potential terrorist target and she did nothing. This time I reckon he's closing his eyes and thinking of England or maybe just himself and his own potential revenge. All very interesting but I wish it had been possible to do this without the addition of Cocoa Pops!

Delphin · 28/08/2018 20:29

I only got around to watch Bodyguard yesterday, and will watch ep. 2 tonight. The first 20 minutes were nothing short of brilliant. I had to unlock my death grip on the sofa edge! Nadia the bomber had almost no dialogue but you knew exactly where she was in her head. And David Budd was as scared as she was but held it together the whole time.

Rhubarb01 · 03/09/2018 14:55

Hi everyone!

A few quiet days on here, it seems. Did anyone watch Vanity Fair last night? If you did, you probably would have smiled, somewhat like me, at the start of the closing credits as the final song was played. I heard an interview about the series and they said each episode would be ending with a contemporary song that was relevant for the events of the episode. I'm wondering if someone was having a laugh when they showed Becky gazing admiringly at the arrival of a tall, dark, handsome soldier to the strains of one of the OG soundtrack songs - I think it's the one when they first arrive at the FOB in series 1.

I've seen a few versions of Vanity Fair and enjoyed them all, including this one, because Becky Sharp is so great.

I also watched Bodyguard last night - it's turning into a web of intrigue but very entertaining. One good thing about autumn is the arrival of lots of new drama.

I don't think we pinned down a date or time for the series 1 watchalong. I can do pretty much any time, but would prefer to avoid Sundays, if possible. Over to you...

eejittwo · 03/09/2018 18:11

I tried to watch Vanity Fair last night online - picture and sound were not in sync, so I was listening more than watching. About ten minutes from the end the wi-fi froze so I gave up. I'll maybe catch up during the week.
Thursdays are best for me for a watchalong, but not this week as I have visitors to stay.

Ilovelblue · 03/09/2018 23:32

Hi all.

A Thursday night is good for me but I won't be able to do 20/9 as I will be away all that week. If we go with eejit's suggestion, we can do 13/9 then jump to 27/9 for episode 2. What do you think?

I didn't watch Vanity Fair. I did read it many years ago but that's as far as it goes, sorry.

Not sure if any of you watching Bodyguard are Telegraph readers, but in the Saturday People Watching column there is a brilliant comment asking how you know if a TV series is a hit. "Is it down to the viewing figures; the media coverage or the amount of time we spend analysing it? It's the post-transmission nit-picking of course!" The journalist then goes on to say "The number of people not just talking about the programme, but discussing where they've gone wrong and what they've got right is the number one test of a programme's success." Hmmm, methinks there's another TV series we could attribute those comments to, don't you agree?

OP posts:
Magi84 · 04/09/2018 05:29

Pretty sure I know which programme you're referring to Ilove!! Certainly very much from the discussion points of where they went wrong Smile

eejittwo · 04/09/2018 06:57

Magi and ilove, which goes back to that quote I posted higher up this page. Problem is, I suspect that the journalist really means 'The number of people WE JOURNALISTS AND TV CRITICS know PERSONALLY not just talking about the programmes , but discussing where they've gone wrong' etc', and not us 'civilians' talking and tearing it apart.
Yeah, I know, 'cynic' is my middle name.

eejittwo · 04/09/2018 06:57

PS - 13/9 okay with me.
