Venus and Klaasen played so well. Was a good match. So disappointed for Michael Venus, though! He had some amazing shots.

PrivateParkin · 15/07/2018 08:48

Morning all. I'm quite looking forward to today's men's final - not exactly what I was hoping for but still. Hopefully it will be a good match. Bit of an unknown quantity, especially with Djokovic not having a day off vs Kevin surely still being knackered from Friday. Hmm.

Marin Cilic is due to be on radio 5 live in about half an hour, if anyone's interested - talking about the final (and the world cup final). He's on holiday (honeymoon?) ATM apparently. Doesn't he know he should really be on Centre Court facing Rafa today (in a parallel universe...)?

PrivateParkin · 15/07/2018 09:28

Waiting for Marin... They are interviewing Barry Davies. His last commentary is the mixed doubles final today.

The80sweregreat · 15/07/2018 09:31

I’m cheering on Anderson!

PrivateParkin · 15/07/2018 09:34

Barry is saying sometimes producers want a "constant conversation" rather than just letting the atmosphere speak for itself, which he thinks is a shame. Couldn't agree more Barry! Hopefully some current producers will take note.

PrivateParkin · 15/07/2018 09:35

The80s yes, well he's earned his right to be there, that's for sure.

I'm feeling a bit neutral at the moment tbh - probably veering towards Novak but will see how the match unfolds.

magimedi · 15/07/2018 09:43

I'm for Anderson.

It does feel a bit like the last day of the summer holidays this morning.

WTF am I going to do next week??

Raahh · 15/07/2018 09:44

I fell asleep last night. I'm so tired at the moment, I think all the stresses of rl are catching up with me.

Still disappointed for Rafa- but he was in 2 of the matches of the tournament.

in a way I'm glad for Djok that he has found form again ( pity it had to be this week!).
would be nice for Anderson to win though. But Novak is obviously the run away favourite.

Got things to do before the final- but I can't muster up any enthusiasm for ironing.Grin

It really does magi. I've been looking at the tennis calendar and even the US Open series starts fairly soon, it's not the same because of the time difference etc - can't get into it as much. Sad

whatnextfred · 15/07/2018 09:49

I'd love Anderson to come through today

Raahh · 15/07/2018 09:49

I HATE the last day of Wimbledon magi
Since RG I've enjoyed weeks of being able to watch tennis rather than just follow online (which can be just as stressfulGrin), and now it comes to an end.

Not listening to the radio, but I agree, you don't need the likes of AC withering all the time. Unless they have something pertinent to say.its not like radio commentary that tells you every ball.

I watched some matches on the red button with no commentary and it was quite refreshing!

I think I'm still in denial about Rafa. I'm not that bothered who wins it now. Not looking forward to Blue Monday either.

PrivateParkin · 15/07/2018 09:58

Marin is finally on air - late. He went for a run and got lost apparently Grin

JaneJeffer · 15/07/2018 09:59

Grin oh dear

PrivateParkin · 15/07/2018 10:00

They spent half the time asking him about Croatia in the world cup final Hmm

bookbook · 15/07/2018 10:41

I am looking forward to the final - I am thinking ( well - hoping! ) that it could be quite good. I have no personal wish for either of them to win or lose, as long as they are able to both play well, notwithstanding obvious problems with the previous long matches.
I have zoomed around early this morning , and apart from ironing ( snap Raahh ) I don't have to do anything other than enjoy the tennis .

Raahh · 15/07/2018 11:29

I've just taken the dog out, before it gets too warm.
Grin at Marin getting lost. Grin

It's a shame there is no tennis this week, as it will be a pretty rubbish one in RL- but I suppose I could catch up on all the jobs I have neglected for weeks.

Then again ,I could just catch up on all the tv I've recorded whilst watching tennis. Which sounds like a better plan Grin.

My older 2 finish for the summer holidays at the end of this week - my brain still can't get used to how quickly this year has gone!

Hope next week goes ok for you Raahh Flowers
I'm planning to keep posting on here with some random post-Wimbledon thoughts!! And looking forward to the next tournaments etc. But this has been the best part of the year for tennis, no doubt about that.

Kevin has just tweeted a picture of himself signing autographs for kids this morning Smile seems like a v genuine guy. What an upset it would be if he could win today. I just think Djokovic is looking almost back to his old ruthless self though - will be difficult to get past him.

They mentioned on the radio that Kevin had a 2 sets to love lead over Djok at Wimbledon 2 or 3 years ago - he went on to lose obviously, but it's still a positive... I think?!

whatnextfred · 15/07/2018 13:00

I'm glad it's over today from the point of
view of the 18000 word dissertation that's due in four weeks....last week was not good for my productivity

Raahh · 15/07/2018 13:11

Private waffling about nothing in particular (when there is no tennis on to watch) is my speciality.

There are tournaments playing though, I'll keep up with those- will be interesting to see how everyone gets on , moving into the main hard court season (though since the majority of tournaments are played on hard courts over the year, it's not really a season!).

I do hope Kevin can give it a match- and yes, I remember his Djok match. He has improved a lot over the last couple of years- and maybe Novak may be a bit vulnerable still?

Just listening to Sue say it's not the final they were expecting. As far as the BBC coverage has been concerned, they had Serena and Roger winning before it even started.

At least she has forewarned us about the channel hopping today Grin.

I saw the last few minutes again , of the 2008 match, before. Still gives me goose bumps.

And thank you Private - we've got a few things happening with Ds (he's 15)this week, (psych appointments, umpteen CAMHS things, I'll be glad when he finishes school.)

And sadly a few weeks ago, my gran was diagnosed with bowel cancer- she has surgery on Thursday. So it's going to be quite a week.

But we are all very positive, and she's been watching the tennis this week- and complaining bitterly about AC. She can't stand him either.
She likes Djok, so will be quite pleased with the final. Grin

Raahh · 15/07/2018 13:22

The Rafa/Djok match did show what has been missing really- I'm not a Djok fan, but they really do bring out the best in each other.

GrouchyKiwi · 15/07/2018 13:25

Flowers Raahh

Yes, their semi was amazing.

Watching bits of 2008 final and giggling at their outfits.

Raahh · 15/07/2018 13:33

Sleeveless Rafa, with long shorts. My favourite Grin.

Monogrammed Roger in his grandad cardigan and cricket whites, even then I thought he looked ridiculous. Grin

I love seeing these old matches.
