Havent watched it yet but just noticed that my Sky box had recorded it last night on ITV 4 at 10 o'clock, I'm sure it was on ITV encore last season. Looking forward to this and it's the last season so hope the end is good.

Couldn't see a thread and don't want anyone to miss it Smile.

Is no-one watching this? Can't believe it's hidden away on ITV4. Loved the opening sequence to Crowded House.

RingtheBells · 06/04/2018 08:45

I couldn’t believe it was back and I knew nothing of it, I have watched it now and thought it was a good opening episode, it seems to have moved on a bit in time as a Paige is now living away from home. Philip seems much more American with stuff like the line dancing and Elizabeth much more on the Russian side. I liked all the 80s stuff in it and the music

It seems to have moved on 3 or 4 years. There are computer terminals and a revamped fancy travel agents office. Everything is brighter and shinier looking except for Elizabeth who is burnt out. Philip gave up the "work" (would they let him do that?) and has embraced the American life.Paige is being groomed to take on the "work" (I wonder does Philip know?)

twilightcafe · 11/04/2018 23:29

This is the final series 😨

kikashi · 12/04/2018 07:22

twiglight it is sad but because it has been planned as a last series for awhile I hope the writers will round things off. I hate series that get cancelled and you never get any resolution of the story lines.

twilightcafe · 12/04/2018 07:32

I hope Martha finds a way to get back to the US.

Biologifemini · 12/04/2018 07:34

It is around 1987, so around the time of glasnost and perestroika.
I love the show.
The ultra violence can be a bit much but it is just so well done and I love the wigs!

RatOnnaStick · 12/04/2018 07:37

I watched up to the first couple of episodes of series 5 and got bored. It felt like more and more hard work to get through each episode. Should I give it another go?

kikashi · 12/04/2018 08:30

Yes the wigs Grin P&E are so busy all the time, but the wigs and make up/disguises would take hours to do . The wigs never seem to slip or go awry either and their hair is never questioned by other people. Wigs in the 80's were not that good.

RingtheBells · 12/04/2018 12:18

Lots of wigs in last nights episode, and on the calendar it said Oct 87. I do feel the series is not going to end well for at least half the cast. I will have to avoid spoilers though as America is in front of us with the series. Will be sad when it ends though as it is one of my favourite programmes

I got bored with Series 4. Then gave it another go, and I'm glad I did.

scrabbler3 · 13/04/2018 10:21

It's a phenomenal show.

The last series covered the 1984 Olympics in LA, and this one is set in the autumn of 1987. Loving the portrayals of "new" Philip and grown-up Paige. Really want martha to reappear but I get the impression that her happy decision to adopt an orphan in the last ep of the last series ended her story.hope I'm wrong!

Bloomed · 13/04/2018 10:33

Can I find the past series somewhere? I caught this by accident and loved it

ScoobyGangMember · 13/04/2018 11:03

First series was on Amazon iirc.

LaLaLolly · 13/04/2018 11:29

I really hope they finish Martha's story.

scrabbler3 · 13/04/2018 14:36

Me too. I'd like her to somehow return to the US and tell Stan all she knows (which includes the name "Philip" and the fact he's married with two children). He also removed his disguise for her, so she would definitely recognise him.

I'm wondering if Father Tim will return - he's been away for three years. He accidentally met Stan at Philip's house in the last series - is that relevant? That said, the actor is in Billions now so maybe not.

Is Stan's wife a Soviet spy? Or is she CIA, keeping him on the straight and narrow given that he got too close to the dark haired Russian woman and too friendly with Oleg. Or is she just an ordinary person who fell in love?

Oleg is hot. Just thought I'd say that. Philip not bad either!

Surelyyoudontmeanthat · 13/04/2018 17:57

At the beginning of ep 2 Elizabeth says to Philip that Paige made a mistake the other night - "got someone's name wrong". Was she talking about the naval security officer - did Paige get the name wrong?

And, what did Philip throw in the waste paper bin when he was involved in the Oleg commuications-shenanigans? (Also, how did Oleg know that Philip would pick up the numbers code from the side of the mailbox - does Philip still check, even though he stopped 'working' a few years back?)

bridgetoc · 15/04/2018 08:22

I like the show, but it's a good thing that it's coming to an end.

NigellasGuest · 15/04/2018 08:36

The last series covered the 1984 Olympics? I thought I was up to date but don't remember that- have I missed a whole series? What else did it cover ? (without spoilers)! Perhaps I can jog my memory!

RingtheBells · 15/04/2018 09:47

I think the Olympics was just mentioned to give it a date, it was the one with Henry wanting to go to the boarding school, so that's mentioned quite a bit, also Martha puts in a couple of appearances, one of them is in a supermarket.

OP posts:
NigellasGuest · 15/04/2018 12:24

Ah ok I've seen all that- must have just missed the Olympics reference. I'm up to date !

I'm wondering whether Stan's girlfriend will turn out to be KGB.

iheartmichellemallon · 29/04/2018 10:29

Glad I found this thread - I love the show & think this series is so interesting with how far apart Philip & Elizabeth are moving from each other.

I wondered if he'd be allowed to just leave also but I put it down to Elizabeth - she's so loyal that he's not a risk to them.

Really hoping that the series will wrap up the storylines - agree that I don't think it will end up happily for many of the characters.

RingtheBells · 29/04/2018 20:42

I thought that last weeks episode was really bleak, I did enjoy it though

LightAsTheBreeze · 17/05/2018 07:05

Really good episode last night, its really ramping up now, won't say too much as now its on at the death slot, its difficult to watch when shown, only reason I have seen it is because I'm away for the weekend now and couldn't wait.

Surelyyoudontmeanthat · 18/05/2018 07:35

Yes, very enthralling episode this week! Agree that some won't have seen it yet, so no comment on the detail (yet!). I think there are 3 episodes to go and then that's it for ever?
