Havent watched it yet but just noticed that my Sky box had recorded it last night on ITV 4 at 10 o'clock, I'm sure it was on ITV encore last season. Looking forward to this and it's the last season so hope the end is good.

Couldn't see a thread and don't want anyone to miss it Smile.

Am predicting a blood bath at the end. And Stan will be hesitating to kill his friends Philip and then be killed by Elizabeth.
Or Paige will die.
I love it soooo much although I cannot get through some of the ultra violent scenes.

ScoobyGangMember · 26/05/2018 10:59

I also tbought the priest the FBI are going to interview isn't the one who married P and E. So many ways this could go. Love it.

kikashi · 26/05/2018 11:37

I thought a few episodes back that because Oleg (even though he no longer trusts Stan) is meeting with Philip that they might end up going to Stan to cut a deal for themselves and to try to save Gorbachev or that Philip would have to kill Elizabeth (or vice versa) in the end over the reforms in the USSR - but I've no idea anymore how it will end up.

Surelyyoudontmeanthat · 26/05/2018 13:40

Yes, so many scenarios!

I agree that Paige could end up scuppering the lot of them (hope not Henry though) - I think she's bungled every single mission she's been on, hasn't she?!
Oleg may become desperate enough to cut a deal with Stan - though as pp say he knows too well that Stan is unreliable.

As for whether Elizabeth was bluffing - at the time I was utterly convinced she was genuine, but having thought about it since, I can see how she did (cleverly?) get Philip to tell her how to locate Oleg - just stand by the deaddrop late morning. I agree though it was highly significant that she let the 21 year old go, and also that she was tempted to keep the painting - and, of course, that she didn't kill Nestorenkp. The suggestion is that the dying artist has given her a new way of thinking, I suppose. - has 'reached' her.

EmilyDickinson · 26/05/2018 14:43

Loving all the theories here. As it stands if Philip and Elizabeth are caught then they're sunk even if they decide to work against their handlers because of all they've done already. Stan would probably want to look after Henry and Paige but wouldn't be allowed to as the assumption would be that two adult or almost adult children would have known who and what their parents were and Stan would not be allowed to take the risk. I wonder if they might contrive it so that Philip and Elizabeth are killed in such a way that it puts them beyond suspicion, perhaps with something that points to another similar couple. Stan then adopts Henry (there really isn't anyone else to take him) and mentors Paige who goes into some kind of FBI / CIA training scheme and finds that Renee is her handler.

Surelyyoudontmeanthat · 29/05/2018 21:51

Anyone else think that it was a bit strange that the 21 year old could open the box so easily and find the recording device - hadn't Elizabeth taped it down securely?

kikashi · 30/05/2018 12:43

I think Elizabeth had taped the recording device inside the lid of the box and sealed the box with lots of big black elastics. I suppose the young guy just got curious about what documents were inside and had a look. The device might have made the lid heavier than usual raising alarm bells.

Surelyyoudontmeanthat · 30/05/2018 14:16

Ah, I see - and Elizabeth was relying on him not to get suspicious, which given that he had after all managed to get a job at the state department was perhaps a bit optimistic of her. Maybe a sign that she is so desperate for info that she is losing her touch slightly. (Or was - given the last few minutes of ep 8.)

I agree with pp below that he was lucky to get away alive. Very silly of him to get in the car with her once he suspected.

kikashi · 30/05/2018 15:08

I kind of have had to suspend my disbelief that anyone can work as hard and relentlessly as Elizabeth does. Also - the wigs and makeup. That would take ages to do each day and wigs weren't that great up close in RL (might look okay on TV or in photos) in the 80's - yet only Martha has ever commented on it. Surely, Elizabeth's wig would slip during raucous sex etc or a witness might say" I think they were wearing a wig".

Elizabeth is definitely "running on empty" this season. It was a very bad move to sack Stavos. I had assumed in the earlier seasons that the travel agency staff were low order operatives (sympathisers) that knew the business wasn't quite what it appeared to be.

Surelyyoudontmeanthat · 30/05/2018 15:23

Ah, what did Martha say about the wig - I don't remember her mentioning it?!

I agree that it was barely credible that Elizabeth got back from Chicago and then immediately went out again to work - to be the carer that evening? And then she immediately has to become the management consultant/strategist - absolutely exhausting! (and as you say, it would take hours to get the 'look' so perfect.)

Philip seemed genuinely surprised that Stavos had suspected something. I wonder if Stavos will head to the police - though I imagine he thinks it's drugs rather than spying?

DGRossetti · 30/05/2018 16:08

This weeks Radio Times agrees with all here that it's a criminally underrated show and hints at an explosive finale Hmm

kikashi · 30/05/2018 17:05

When Philip decided to show Martha the real him- she said something along the lines that she knew he wore a wig but never said anything as she assumed he might be bald and sensitive about it.

LightAsTheBreeze · 31/05/2018 14:58

Just watched episode 9 and can't wait now for the final episode, I think I said upthread that America may have seen the final episode a week earlier than us so be careful if googling.

DGRossetti · 31/05/2018 15:04

Yes ... we're watching E10 tonight Grin

No spoilers, but an awful lot of good reviews - all echoing what people here have said that it's a criminally underrated series.

If you like the idea of mashing up shows, "The Americans" seems to dovetail perfectly with "Homeland" - especially the last season (which we're only up to E9 on ....).

LightAsTheBreeze · 31/05/2018 17:29

ah, so if you haven't seen E10 yet I can safely google for the recap pages in case I missed any minor detailsGrin

LightAsTheBreeze · 31/05/2018 17:44

I hate it when the finale for a series which has been on for years gets different air times in different countries, it was the same when The Mentalist ended and I found out what happened before I watched it, they should all be shown at the same time like GOT and Lost, though The Americans is obviously not considered important enough here with it's death slot. The recap pages for E10 look like they are out, I just skipped quickly past them.

SuperSuperSuper · 03/06/2018 19:41

Phillip's son hasn't been seen recently. Nor Martha. I'd like the latter to appear in the finale in some capacity, it would seem fitting - however, I think she got her happy ending when she adopted that little girl, so her story is probably over.

Good to see Pastor Tim the other night. I don't think that he'll spill the beans but who knows - Stan may receive a call from him.

I think that Renee is a red herring.

Elizabeth losing her touch by letting the youngster go free to get drunk and blab.

The CIA official's daughter with the blonde curly hair - maybe she'll be back.

LightAsTheBreeze · 07/06/2018 08:26

Well, that was good, has anyone else watched it yet.

kikashi · 07/06/2018 08:53

I have seen the finale but am waiting to comment until others have too. When is it on TV?

Surelyyoudontmeanthat · 07/06/2018 09:09

Yes I've watched - it was on last night/early this morning - but will also wait until a few others have seen it!

Still, I can ask a question about last week now - was the agent Elizabeth shot Oleg's sort of ex girlfriend? (The one who came to meet him at the college to tell him he'd ruined her career.) Once the wig fell off it looked like her (as far as one can tell), but I didn't realise she did active killing ops.

Surelyyoudontmeanthat · 07/06/2018 09:13

Oh and also a comment on last week - Elizabeth!

Sternly tells Claudia that nobody must ever lie to her (Eliz, I mean), then half an hour later lies (almost) utterly convincingly to Paige about whether she slept with the 21 yr old. Double standards....

DGRossetti · 07/06/2018 10:15

was the agent Elizabeth shot Oleg's sort of ex girlfriend?

Yes. Tatiana.

Surelyyoudontmeanthat · 07/06/2018 11:38

Thanks DG, yes Tatiana. I thought she was rather nice in series 5 (or maybe it was 4).

lurkingfromhome · 07/06/2018 14:24

I am LONGING for the final episode although DH is out tonight and has made me promise not to watch it without him so it will be tomorrow. I haven't been this excited about a final episode since The Sopranos Grin

LightAsTheBreeze · 07/06/2018 15:16

The final episode is about hour and a half as well, I did panic a bit as an hour was about up and it didn’t seem nowhere near finished and in the TV paper I had it was the usual hour.
