Havent watched it yet but just noticed that my Sky box had recorded it last night on ITV 4 at 10 o'clock, I'm sure it was on ITV encore last season. Looking forward to this and it's the last season so hope the end is good.

Couldn't see a thread and don't want anyone to miss it Smile.

So glad I found this series on itv 4. Always have trouble locating it!

This series is great - missed first two but episode 7 was so good, one of the best.

Roll on next week.

TlentifiniMaarhaysu · 18/05/2018 21:00

Just watched episode 7. The suspense! What a great series.

EmilyDickinson · 18/05/2018 23:30

I've just watched it too. Great episode, so tense. I find myself rooting for Philip and Elizabeth even as they do things that horrify me, but, at the same time I really want Stan and the CIA, who've been unknowingly chasing the Jennings for years, to finally catch a break. The series is brilliant the way it makes you empathise with different points of view.

LightAsTheBreeze · 19/05/2018 09:04

I do wonder what is going to happen with Henry, not sure how old he is meant to be, 16/17? I hope nothing bad happens to Stan now if he mentions his suspicions

EmilyDickinson · 19/05/2018 11:42

I think that Henry has one more year to go at school so 16/17 is probably right.
Philip and Elizabeth are headed for a fall in more ways than one with the business in trouble. I can't help feeling their travel agency would do better with both of them working in it and without having to fund all Elizabeth's missions, although I guess she does have some money coming in for her work as a carer.

bridgetoc · 19/05/2018 12:55

This series has been brilliant so far......

There is an impending sense of doom, and I can't stand the tension.

EmilyDickinson · 19/05/2018 16:25

Both Philip and Elizabeth are so unhappy in this series and I hate that Elizabeth has dragged Paige into "the work". I'm surprised Philip let it happen, he's clearly grown to hate everything about it and who can blame him after what he's had to do in the last two missions in which he took part. I'm surprised Elizabeth is able to justify what she does to herself.

ScoobyGangMember · 19/05/2018 18:20

Philip doesn't hate everything about it though, as Stan's Thanksgiving speech riled him into helping Elizabeth.

Surelyyoudontmeanthat · 25/05/2018 07:21

Anyone seen episode 8 yet? I have! But perhaps discussion should be postponed until after the weekend to avoid spoilers for people catching up then.

Can't understand why it isn't more primetime!

Surelyyoudontmeanthat · 25/05/2018 07:35

Scooby did you think it was Stan's speech that prompted Philip to help? I thought it was his feelings for Elizabeth (afterwards remembering the wedding?) and, maybe, solidarity with a fellow 'illegal', even though Philip doesn't really agree any more with what they're doing.

(Though for someone who doesn't agree, Philip was fairly efficient with the axe last week)

Anyway, yes I think you may be right, it was soon after Stan's speech that he volunteered, and otherwise what was the 'point' of the speech dramatically (other than maybe to give the audience a wryly amusing moment!)

kikashi · 25/05/2018 12:02

I've seen Episode 8 - and have issues to discuss but like you Surely will wait.

Surelyyoudontmeanthat · 25/05/2018 16:00

Ha - see you later Kikashi - yes I agree that there are some issues to discuss!

LightAsTheBreeze · 25/05/2018 16:12

I have seen it and couldn’t understand why Philip bought a new suit, I still also fear for Stan.

As an aside I started the thread and have name changed in the meantime, that is probably why OPs sometimes look like they haven’t come back to the thread they started.

ScoobyGangMember · 26/05/2018 07:15

Yes the new suit was weird. I'm still wondering about Stan's wife.

Surelyyoudontmeanthat · 26/05/2018 08:09

I wondered if maybe the new suit was a way of showing that Philip has 'gone over' to consumerism and the materialistic life style. But he was so unenthusiastic about it that I don't think that can have been the reason.

There must be a reason for the suit - we will find out! absolutely no idea what it can be though.

kikashi · 26/05/2018 08:16

Phillip always liked the finer things fancy cars etc. Perhaps he ordered the suit when he still thought he could turn the business around, so was miserable that his American Dream had turned to ashes. Perhaps it will be significant in the last episode.

I've never trusted Stan's new wife but maybe she is a red herring. I've been surprised that they have allowed Paige to become (a rather bad) operative, especially given the killing and sex they will have to practice and as Philip said not been able to think for yourself.

Surelyyoudontmeanthat · 26/05/2018 08:41

oh yes good point kikashi, although the tailor was talking about alterations, wasn't he, so I thought Philip was buying off the peg? But your theory would fit - he ordered it to fit in with his successful businessman persona and now everything's about to crash, hence Philip's looking so glum.

What I don't understand is that I assumed the Centre was financing them - so wouldn't it just prop up the ailing travel agency? Elizabeth needs it as cover, so surely her handlers have to stump up?

Surelyyoudontmeanthat · 26/05/2018 08:51

I agree we're being kept dangling about Renee.

With Paige I thought the idea was that her 'job' for the Centre would be different from Elizabeth's and Philip's - working in the State department and leaking info rather than killing and sex. (Though in which case why bring her into some of Elizabeth's 'work'?)

I think also this season the writers have been using Paige to show how committed Elizabeth is to the cause - she's been prepared to put her daughter in dangerous situations and then got very annoyed with her for not doing what she's told - relationship has changed from mother/daughter to expert and apprentice, almost.

Very very clever writing this season - can't understand why it's not more popular!

lurkingfromhome · 26/05/2018 08:53

I think this is easily the best thing on TV at the moment. We watch each episode in a state of unbelievable stress just waiting for Something Bad to Happen. It’s so incredibly well plotted that with just 2 episodes to go I have literally no idea where it’s going to end up. DH and I come up with new theories every week and every combination of who might end up killing who seems quite feasible, as do the alternatives where no one kills anyone ... there are just so many ways it could pan out.

I’m hoping that cyanide pill doesn’t prove significant in the final episode.

lurkingfromhome · 26/05/2018 08:56

My current favourite theory is that P and E will both decide they’ve had enough and will realise the cause was never worth it (with all the attendant guilt that will cause) then that will be the point when Stan catches them, in a moment of superb irony.

Surelyyoudontmeanthat · 26/05/2018 09:04

I wondered if Philip was planning to throw it all in and go back to the USSR - thus the video - and so maybe he wants one more suit to take back with him?!

Your prediction is an excellent one lurking, and of course they have both (Philip as well) killed so many people, so really Stan should catch them.

But I think your 'no one kills anyone' prediction is also possible - maybe a flashforward to P and E living in retirement in Florida! Is it possible that Stan could decide to let them go - personal affections override duty to country, in contrast to the way with Nina he eventually put country first (I think - details have slightly escaped me now)? I hope not though - their murders have been awful. Philip's hand-wringing doesn't exonerate him.

Surelyyoudontmeanthat · 26/05/2018 09:12

I also have an alternative prediction based on the upcoming appointment with the priest. Which is that E is airlifted safely back to USSR and P gets arrested.

I just hope Henry comes through ok! And Paige too really, she was a sad figure in episode 7 I thought. when she was discussing her life with Elizabeth.

LightAsTheBreeze · 26/05/2018 09:31

I also think that Philip will get caught, probably by Stan with the priest and Stan will probably take Henry under his wing, who will be bewildered and distraught.

We must be careful as I think America is a week in front of us so must not google to avoid spoilers.

Surelyyoudontmeanthat · 26/05/2018 09:52

yes all googling forbidden! Am I right that something doesn't match about the priest though - Fr Victor is the one who FBI have their eye on, but P and E's has a different name - can't remember it at the moment but P mentioned it.

I also think it's significant that P said that O would check the box late morning and get the message by early afternoon - suggests that 'tomorrow' is going to be an action packed day!

Oh, and let us never forget that Elizabeth is a totally ruthless operator, and very good at acting a part. But I hope that I am overthinking that.

lurkingfromhome · 26/05/2018 10:42

Oh more excellent theories to add to the list! I am really quite obsessed with this at the moment and spend far too much time thinking about it.

An earlier theory was that Paige would get killed as she tried to be all gung-ho and do something risky to impress Elizabeth, and that would be what would put an end to E's commitment. But I think the plot is moving in a different direction now.

Did you really think E might be bluffing? I thought it was quite significant the way she let the young guy go in the end and didn't just throttle him in the car, as she would have before.
