I know, all the cliches, well, one obvious one anyway! But I do enjoy watching this, seeing the contestants develop confidence, improve their techniques and grow as artists is very satisfying. Not being a painter I don't understand how to put paint on paper and make it look like anything but flat colour, but watching and listening to the painters and their mentors really opens my eyes.

Too early for a favourite yet, but I like the young guy who does the photo realism, I think he will loosen up and produce something amazing as the series progresses.

I just started watching this programme last weekend - but all out of order - I caught part of one episode, and am working my way through the previous ones, on catch up - so it is a bit confusing!

I have painted, in the past - not at all well, so this is very interesting. Sadly I do think Ray was the right person to go - though I am getting very annoyed with the chap who pretends to listen to the expert's advice, and then utterly ignores it.

PinkBuffalo · 18/04/2018 15:48

akire don't think so, I think it was just a one off for Easter.
I was just late returning to the thread!

viques · 22/04/2018 19:11

well tonight was interesting, I think the final task was a huge challenge, I wouldn't know where to start with such a huge view. I thought Jane was very weak, I don't know where she got that mammoth tree from, but I did like her other two panels. Having said that I think Tilly was lucky not to leave.

I was so pleased Susan was chosen as the people's choice, I like her approach and loved her work this week.

what did you get up to this week WimpeyDimples?

PinkBuffalo · 22/04/2018 19:14

Unusually I liked all their final paintings this week.

FuzzyCustard · 22/04/2018 19:16

Poor Jane. She was roundly criticised whatever she tried to do. I do hope it doesn't knock her confidence - painting is such a personal thing - I'm not sure I'd paint again after that critique!

I thought Tilly should have gone. Her painting was very lumpy and childlike (not in a good way).

My allegiance is divided between Oliver, Callum and Chris. (I used to favour Anil but not sure about his "I'm not listening" attitude).

insancerre · 22/04/2018 19:18

Jane lives in my town and has a lovely ice cream shop

Akire · 22/04/2018 20:43

Yes agree about Anil he’s not doing himself favours. Pascal didn’t know what to do when she got upset. Still like Oliver and Callum too. Next week looks really complex.

MissWimpyDimple · 22/04/2018 21:05

DD isn't very well so we didn't paint along tonight. (Good job too considering the subject matter 😱). Might have a crack at it later in the week if we get time.

Thought Jane was right to go. Her three paintings were weak and she seems out of her depth.

Movement next week, which is utterly terrifying!

Yorkshirebetty · 22/04/2018 21:41

I felt sorry for Jane, she loves to use colour and I think the challenge was a bit much for her. I hope she gains confidence and continues to paint. Callum and Oliver are very good.

Akire · 22/04/2018 23:08

Jane did spend over hour sketching which was stupid. I mean for basics outline there wasn’t that much to see. Not convinced she was doing the “whatever arty term was” for 3 pictures together, until Pascal said it.

viques · 22/04/2018 23:13

Flowers for poorly sick Miss WD. Get better soon.

I won’t miss Jane and all her bloody crying. The judges couldn’t say anything to her without her turning on the waterworks. I’ll enjoy it more next week.

FuzzyCustard · 29/04/2018 18:41

Oh, they are all finding it difficult this week. I'm not surprised!

FuzzyCustard · 29/04/2018 18:57

Tilly and Susan out! I guessed Tilly but couldn't call the second one.

viques · 29/04/2018 19:18

I don't think Susan should have gone, Tilly has been struggling since week one I think and should have gone a while ago. It is a very interesting group left, such different approaches and techniques. I think Anil might be in for a shock exit, he is a bit smug , hasn't really moved on as much as the others and I'm afraid if I was a judge I would want him out.

OP posts:
Catsrus · 29/04/2018 19:20

Why do they keep saving Chris and Callum? Both of theirs were inferior to Susan's - they've been much harder on the women IMO.

Akire · 29/04/2018 21:07

I agree harder women. Anil I liked but he is smug and just not trying new things unlike all others. Could have saved one of them. Oliver’s did lack spirit even though technical better form than the others. Chris just didn’t mske any sense at all!! I’m hoping Oliver or the baby to win (and go to art school!)

PinkBuffalo · 29/04/2018 21:46

This week was so difficult!
Agree they were harder on the women. Will miss Tilly, she was fun!
I would like Oliver to win, just on the basis he is such a sweetie Smile

Springnowplease · 30/04/2018 06:21

I love that the public voted Oliver's to stay. Judges not happy about that.

Is it just me that thinks this year's hasn't been as full of talent as series in the past?

Akire · 30/04/2018 09:17

i know what you mean. Chris running man looks like a 10y had don it also Tilly and not enough legs. It’s wasnt a 20min task was 3 or 4 hours.

I do love it the way pascal and what’s her van make you feel like anyone can draw and improve. I loved art at school but always thought it was only for very skilled people. You could spend week with them and go up about 500%.

I looked on iplayer the painting the holy land is up as episode 1 so presume there was more to come. Fingers crossed

GnotherGnu · 30/04/2018 13:03

Part of the problem this week was that it appeared that for many of them this was the first time they'd tried to paint movement, hence the panic element. If they'd watched the previous series they must have known it would come up: I think if I were in their position, I would have tried to practise a bit beforehand, or even taken some lessons.

basquiatfan · 30/04/2018 17:57

Painting the holy land was broadcast on two consecutive days. May still be on iplayer

FuzzyCustard · 07/05/2018 16:59

Hurrah, the right person won (IMO!)

PinkBuffalo · 07/05/2018 19:33

Completely agree with you fuzzy Smile

Cherrypi · 07/05/2018 22:09

I think he walked it.
