I know, all the cliches, well, one obvious one anyway! But I do enjoy watching this, seeing the contestants develop confidence, improve their techniques and grow as artists is very satisfying. Not being a painter I don't understand how to put paint on paper and make it look like anything but flat colour, but watching and listening to the painters and their mentors really opens my eyes.

Too early for a favourite yet, but I like the young guy who does the photo realism, I think he will loosen up and produce something amazing as the series progresses.

Misswimpy

I love your dogs!

I liked Simon's dog.

I would prefer if no one left, they all learned more about painting

techniques, and someone won on the last show.

HotSauceCommittee · 08/04/2018 20:32

Ooh, I’m going to settle in and watch part 2 on catch up in a minute.
Pascal fills a boiler suit very well, doesn’t he?

Akire · 08/04/2018 20:39

Great pics! May join in next week! Bookani was doomed in a 3/4h a lot and she did it in 5min.

Those of you who love locklan he did a bbc4 show called painting through holy land in Holy Week. Maybe that’s why he wasn’t there tonight? I could listen to his voice and watch him paint all day.

FuzzyCustard · 08/04/2018 21:02

Akire I watched that programme with Lachlan...I thought it was very good. He's a great presenter and made the subject really interesting and accessible. (As in I could understand what he was on about!)

Akire · 08/04/2018 21:14

I have that Children’s bible somewhere! I don’t think I ever be comfortable drawing people or anyone watching me draw. Must be really off putting.

FuzzyCustard · 08/04/2018 21:20

Nor me. Drawing and painting are now very solitary occupations for me! I used to do loads but have totally lost confidence and haven't painted for many years. But Paint-Off makes me want to start again (in a sealed room!)

Akire · 08/04/2018 21:33

I spend half snow thinl 4h! Wow I’d need like 5 trips to the loo. Wonder how many breaks they give them? Looked really cold today how can you stand one place that long in cold.

MissWimpyDimple · 08/04/2018 22:03

@Freyanna thank you!

We are a bit scared about next weeks portraits. I'm dreadful at faces! We'll give it a shot 😬

Freyanna · 08/04/2018 22:18

MissWimply

Good for you! Please let us see the pictures, it will add to the fun having our own Mumsnet guest contributors!

QueenieS · 09/04/2018 22:19

Love this show, really good light entertainment

QueenieS · 15/04/2018 19:02

This is a funny episode but not sure it's mean to be

furlinedsheepskinjacket · 15/04/2018 19:12

MissWimpyDimple · 15/04/2018 19:21

Wow that was tough. We painted along again but the results are a bit mixed 🤣

I Wow WimpeyD and Ms WimpeyD I think you did really well, though not sure I would recognise either of you if we met in the street (Editorialnote : probably the point!) missed tonight so will have to catch up on iplayer.

what is your task for next week?

MissWimpyDimple · 16/04/2018 07:38

Thank you 😂 Not sure what next week is! Poor Ray - he was our fave but he did have to go.

I agree that it was unintentionally amusing this week!

Yorkshirebetty · 16/04/2018 11:03

I felt a bit sorry for Ray, but really the orange then lilac face did make me smile. The ice cream lady seems really nice, lacks confidence. Anil's portrait was a touch wild, but was very good. I can't draw or paint at all, so respect to all of them.

Akire · 16/04/2018 12:21

It does make me feel better about my drawings When even good one do wonky eyes. Pascal and other one make you feel like you are never to thick to learn!

Skin toes are hard but Ray wasn’t really worried when his was orange. That’s was more concerning.

PinkBuffalo · 17/04/2018 20:55

Akire I saw lachlan's show on the holy land. I thought it very good too.
P.S. I could also listen to him all day!

PinkBuffalo · 17/04/2018 20:57

I felt a bit sorry for Ray, but he did have to go.

NetVolume · 17/04/2018 21:02

Ray was the right one to go. He seemed to be afraid of the paint. Not enough layering or texture.

The ice-cream lady interests me , I like her use of colour.

Anil is fab and very much knows who he is as a painter already . I feel like that'll cause him problems as the competition progresses.

viques · 17/04/2018 21:08

Managed to catch up today, loved the portrait tasks, and thought the master classes were brilliant. sad to see Ray go, such a sweetie. next week is water, I don't know how the WimpyDimples are going to paint along, I hope they have a garden pond with good lighting!

HotSauceCommittee · 17/04/2018 21:35

Did you all see the last series where they painted Angela Ripon and one of them made her look like Donald Trump’s sister.

NetVolume · 18/04/2018 09:53

Ha! I remember that @HotSauce, by the way , who won the last series and what was the prize? I somehow missed the last few episodes.

Akire · 18/04/2018 10:05

Anil Jane and Oliver and other lady with glasses are good.

Was there another holy land on? Didn’t see it yet.
