We all know that the writers read MN after all. Apparently it’s on at 8.30pm this eve?

Toyah has saved s bob or two hasn't she? I presume with the first surrogate she had she would have had to pay 'expenses'.

CoolCarrie · 03/05/2018 15:25

The wee baby is lovely Eva is not going to give her and Aiden’sbaby up, I bet she goes off with her in the next two weeks or so. Toyah was a cow to her.

IIRC Leanne had volunteered the £25k Nick gave her from the sale of his flat to pay for the surrogate as the pub wasn't turning a profit and had taken all Toyah and Peter's credit line (why Pete was also mini cabbing). However, later Leanne still had the money and was going to use it to "buy" a house but was scammed out of it by Toyah's B&B guest. Not sure how they had intended to pay for Jackie. None of it makes sense. Just as they are about to owe Jackie a lot Toyah tells Peter she paid for Eva to go to America an drented a cottage for an abuse victim she knew. Hmm Insult to the viewers really. They pay continuity people and have a Corrie archivist - so no excuse for flaws.

Hygge · 03/05/2018 18:17

Toyah's ethics (as she's apparently a trained counsellor) make me cringe with every episode.

I know Eva is not her client but if she's spent time qualifying and working as a counsellor her ethics and self-awareness and her commitment to doing no harm and examining her own motives is shocking.

Frillyhorseyknickers · 03/05/2018 19:43

This baby story is batshit and so triggering.

It really really boils my piss that a baby can not be born in the street without a massive drama. Can’t two people be together and just have a healthy baby without issue?

ajandjjmum · 03/05/2018 20:20

I agree Frilly - like weddings - there always has to be a drama. A bit of normality please writers.

keepondreaming · 03/05/2018 20:22

Is there anyone still happily married to their first wife/husband? Can only think of Beth & Kirky...

Is there a child that hasn't suffered a trauma in their life?

Hygge · 03/05/2018 20:27

I agree Frilly.

Toyah so casually replacing her own lost baby with Eva's daughter just doesn't sit right with me and I found that quite difficult and insensitive.

HettySunshine · 03/05/2018 20:31

All of the storylines at the moment are ridiculous. I can't think of a single one that I'm enjoying and I love Corrie (or I did until recently).

I just want it to be better. The tools are there - there are some great actors that are so completely under used.

I also wish there could be some happy storylines for a while - can anyone remember the last time something genuinely nice happened?

Spam88 · 03/05/2018 20:32

keepon Beth and Kirk aren't actually married - turned out she was still married to Craig's father so their marriage was void.

HettySunshine · 03/05/2018 20:34

Exactly Hygge, the idea that she could have lost her baby and not mourned for it makes a mockery of the thousands of woman who lose babies every year, especially after Michelle's storyline last year.

Frillyhorseyknickers · 04/05/2018 08:08

Hygge

It’s far worse than any phelan plot - making a complete non issue of miscarriage and the deception for the biological father is horrible. I can’t believe the writers thought it was a good story.

kikashi · 04/05/2018 09:22

Toyah grabbing the baby at the hospital and rocking it saying my little girl, my baby was unbelievably insensitive from "counsellor" Toyah. Eva was having doubts but wondered if Aidan would want the baby and Toyah hurried her along saying "time is running out". The story is bonkers but for me part the problem is that Eva in a 30/31 year old woman. I just don't believe someone like Eva who loves children (so kind to Liam, Simon etc) would not want her child or believe she could bring a child up as a single mother - she is not a 12/13 year old like the awful Faye story line.

Clawdy · 04/05/2018 09:46

Yes, she could have told Aidan she was having their baby, said it was up to him whether he wanted to accept that, but that she would be bringing it up on her own if he didn't. Totally different ending for both of them!

Akire · 04/05/2018 09:52

Isn’t Eva going to return to tardis pub with Peter Toyah Baby Leanne Simeon Oliver? Surely it’s time to move on with your life? What’s point of saying I can’t have a baby in my life then live in the same
House as the child? She has no home no job no partner if she wants to do something with her life now is the time!!

Animalsoffarthingwood · 04/05/2018 09:57

Exactly, they're treating it as though Eva is a teenage girl. It's hardly shocking that she would be pregnant, she is a maternal person, she has family and a support network, of course she would bring up her baby.

It annoys me because besides it being a ridiculous implausible storyline, it goes totally against the characters.

It's like the writers just come up with an idea but with no clue how it will end, then just give the characters a personality transplant to fit in with their bizarre idea.

Hygge · 04/05/2018 10:16

I was thinking with Eva, maybe the shock of finding out she was pregnant so late into the pregnancy had something to do with it.

She was seventeen weeks pregnant when she found out, and she knew it meant that her ex was the father, just as she was in a new relationship.

Given the mess of the wedding, the fraud, destroying the factory, and the fake pregnancy and the lies, I think she panicked and tried to distance herself from the pregnancy because of all that.

She wanted to keep Adam at that point, and I think she thought having a termination would mean he didn't find out. But she couldn't do that so she thought this plan of Toyah's would mean she could disappear for a few weeks and then come home from America and carry on with Adam and he wouldn't need to know. And as Peter's brother, she couldn't tell him.

And by the time she started to feel something for the baby it was too late, Toyah was taking over, Adam had left her, she was rejected by Aiden again, and she felt like she couldn't back out as she would hurt too many people.

It still strikes me as odd that nobody noticed her pregnancy. Leanne doesn't usually miss anything, Shona actually realised Eva was pregnant before Eva did, and I know that Eva told her she'd had the termination but you'd think Shona would look at her and realise.

But I think she's going to take the baby back, I can't see her leaving the baby with Toyah for long. I thought Toyah was especially cruel when Eva asked if they had chosen a name and she just said "Yes" without telling her what it was.

eddiemairswife · 04/05/2018 15:49

I don't know much about surrogacy, and am finding it difficult to follow the sequence of events. As far as I understand it Eva had the baby on Monday in the cottage, and was then transferred to hospital.Has Toyah taken the baby home yet? Is this an informal arrangement between Eva and Toyah? I know the real surrogate miscarried, but Peter doesn't know that. What happens with regard to the registration?

kikashi · 04/05/2018 17:11

Toyah and Eva registered the birth properly with Eva as the mother but have faked up a birth certificate to show Peter (who presumably would want the birth re registered with his name also on the certificate at some point). Toyah is staying overnight with Eva and bringing the baby back the next day. Wonder how Eva will put off the HV/midwife visits. Toyah claims she can use the real BC for everything and that Peter will not find outHmm

Toyah says she wants to get a private fostering arrangement drawn up but she obviously hasn't googled it. I'm pretty sure that the law changed several years ago and you have to inform SS 6 weeks in advance of the arrangement and a SW has to come out and do assessments and the like so Peter would be involved (and any other person living in the pub) quite rightly. It gets complicated if you are from the extended family or classed as a relative too. If Eva does a runner with the baby I suppose they won't go into all that.

eddiemairswife · 04/05/2018 17:44

Is it easy to fake a birth certificate if you don't have criminal connections?

kikashi · 04/05/2018 19:28

Apparently they got a few of t'internet

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 04/05/2018 19:53

The most incredulous thing this week though is that they were playing Joy Division in the pub on Wednesday. 😄
The surrogacy thread though is just nasty.

blueskypink · 04/05/2018 19:54

Can someone remind me how Toya and Eva are sisters?

EB123 · 04/05/2018 20:03

They aren't sisters. Toyah and Leanne are half sisters (same dad) and Leanne amd Eva are half sisters (same mum).

Is Jenny pregnant? I noticed she was funny in the pub when they talked about the baby earlier this week.
