We all know that the writers read MN after all. Apparently it’s on at 8.30pm this eve?

Summer is surely too young to be doing works experience.

Yorkshirebetty · 20/04/2018 22:20

Seniorcitizen, they were sitting in the new memorial garden, part of the new set.

PrincessScarlett · 20/04/2018 22:44

Senior citizen, I thought that to. And in the background was Weather field snooker hall that's not been mentioned before.

What has Seb's mum been in before? I recognise her and it's bugging me.

scrabbler3 · 20/04/2018 23:17

Seb's mum was in Love, Lies and Records as the wife of the man Ashley Jenson's character was having an affair with.

scrabbler3 · 20/04/2018 23:29

Summer looks like a primary school kid but I think she's supposed to be older. Weird casting.

Underworld is just as good as the space place lol.

It's a disgrace that talented actors can't even get auditions, yet weak actors get cast. I mean, if you lost out on the role of Jude to the plank of wood that got it, it must be demoralising.

That said, Bill Podmore wrote in his autobiography that it was often difficult to tell which characters would be popular. He had high hopes for the Clayton family (remember them from the 1980s?) but they didn't gel, so he had them leave after Terry Duckworth got the teen daughter pregnant with Tommy. Apparently, there was a lot of resistance to marrying off Audrey and Alf, but it just somehow worked despite being odd on paper (a bit like Tim and Sally these days). So sometimes, I guess they just need to test it out. The problem arises when the mistake isn't recognised and contracts are renewed.

PrincessScarlett · 20/04/2018 23:38

I never watched that Scrabbler so must be thinking of something else.

GlacindaTheTroll · 20/04/2018 23:43

Summer is in year 9 - same as Amy, so will be 13 or 14

PrincessScarlett · 20/04/2018 23:47

Shameless!! That's where I've seen Seb's mum before.

blueskypink · 20/04/2018 23:55

I really don't know why they have to cram so many dramatic story lines into each episode. In the last few weeks we've had-
Rana's blink and you'll miss it abduction
David's rape
Luke's murder
Eileen and Phelan's show down
Robert and steroid abuse
Eva's pregnancy
Carla's kidney and world's fastest recovery
Billy on drugs
Gary at death's door - again
Michelle's swapped at birth son rocking up as the local gp
Simon turning into the spawn of Satan
Etc etc

In the 'olden days' they'd have run with one of those story lines at a time and padded the rest out with well-scripted 'normal' goings on and quite a lot of dry humour.

Roy and Haley, Rita and Norris, Rita and Mavis, Bet and Alec were so entertaining. When we do get a break from the high drama now we're 'amused' by Dev, Chesney and the fish costume or Sally's cutlery wallpaper .... Hmm

desperatehousewife21 · 21/04/2018 09:16

Ha! I literally came on here to say how awful Rana’s Mums acting was! Looks like I’m not the only one. So dreadful with no conviction.

kikashi · 21/04/2018 09:33

Where have Sarah and Gary moved into? and how can they afford it?

EachandEveryone · 21/04/2018 09:58

I dunno. That little gated garden is just like those you see in Greenwich Village New York. Not. Was David channelling Sinead O’Connor in the video for Nithing Campares 2 U? Has Phelen come back and have the twins been adopted out?

Yorkshirebetty · 21/04/2018 10:25

I'm wondering if Gary and Sarah are moving to a place in the new set - we've already seen the garden and a glimpse of the snooker hall, also the inside of Speed Dahl. An answer to the chronic overcrowding?

millimat · 21/04/2018 10:33

I thought I'd missed an episode because of Sarah moving out.

millimat · 21/04/2018 10:33

How has phelan got any money?

eddiemairswife · 21/04/2018 11:05

I suppose the new hairdresser is to become a permanent character.

EachandEveryone · 21/04/2018 11:09

God I hope not

It made no sense. Maria has no authority to take on an "apprentice". She said she couldn't use Bethany as she was still training - but surely that is what an apprentice does? Bethany doesn't seem to be in the salon very often.

Who in their right mind puts a key under a flower pot when they know they still have a stalker out there?

eddiemairswife · 21/04/2018 12:29

I really can't understand the situation with Summer, or how it is legal. Her dead father 'gave' her to Billy(a perfect stranger to her) just before he died, because her grandparents disapproved of his homosexuality. Billy is now in rehab, and Summer is living with his missing partner's mother.
Wouldn't Social Services have been involved somewhere along the way? What is the procedure when a child is orphaned? Wouldn't she have spent some time in care or with foster parents?

blueskypink · 21/04/2018 12:31

I wonder if Seb's mum is going to be bumped off by Phelan. If he breaks in and sees her sleeping on the couch - they've got very similar hair ..... Can't think what other point there would be in having her around.

honeyroar · 21/04/2018 12:53

That's a thought Bluesky. I quite enjoyed the intrigue over who was watching/breaking in!

Yes I think that Summer would have been whisked off by social services long ago. She hasn't been near one balanced adult for longer than an hour since she's been on the show. She's never going to stand a chance of growing up right! Future Simon- evil teen type mark my words!

thenightsky · 21/04/2018 13:21

Pure stupidity to leave a key outside under a flower pot. What a bloody cliché!

I thought it was Billy sneaking around in the hoody. Escaped from rehab and gone bad.

kikashi · 21/04/2018 13:23

Seb's mum aced her" mechanic's certificate" in prison - so I can see where she will be working when a certain rapist is exposed. She will be rehabilitated by the Street (as usual).

Sophie seems to have exchanged her clip board for a black A4 type "file" she is carrying round (for her executive job search)

I don't recall Billy being given official guardianship of Summer. Didn't SS have concerns about Nilly's attack on Peter etc in the dim past.

When Phelan saved Summer from the man trying to entice her into his car was that to show Phelan was good in some respects or a foreshadowing of how vulnerable Summer is? Wish they had some normal teens - Jenny in classic Corrie moans about her exams, runs away to grape pick in France, snogs her mates boyfriend etc and is seen as "trouble" - these days what with Simon, Bethany, Faye, Seb et al problems it all seems much bleaker.

ChevalierTialys · 21/04/2018 15:18

They've got Amy being a relatively normal teen. It's not exactly balanced but her biggest problem does seem to be whether to snog a boy at a party, which is more realistic than what the rest of them are doing.
