Evening all! I'm getting used to these lighter evenings and it's only the second one! Have you seen the pics of BA out in New Orleans on the Aldridge Army twitter account? Looking good!

Still got the bloody baseball cap but at least it's not on back to front!!

eejittwo · 26/03/2018 22:10

Hi ladies - I know it's not Our Girl or Ben, but did any of you see this wonderful programme www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b09xptsg/raf-at-100-with-ewan-and-colin-mcgregor?suggid=b09xptsg

kazzaD66 · 26/03/2018 22:44

Yes eejit I enjoyed it (although I did think of BA in First Light when Geoffrey Welham was interviewed). Loved the two lady fliers who said their favourite toy boy was Martin Shaw but that Ewan would have to do! Smile

Flowerfan · 27/03/2018 09:04

Hi

Have you seen the one of Ben dancing on the Aldridge army instagram account!!!👍👍👏

Magi84 · 27/03/2018 09:15

Yes Flower have seen it. Moving well reminiscent of when he sang "Don't go breaking my heart". 😳

Flowerfan · 27/03/2018 09:33

Yes maggi just what I thought!!

Ilovelblue · 27/03/2018 11:21

Hi all.

Hope I've got the right night for our watchalong later!

Yes, I watched the RAF programme on Sunday. Those two female pilots were amazing, weren't they? Not sure Martin Shaw would be my idea of a toy boy (even at their age) but each to his own! I never knew there were female pilots at that time. I knew they acted as ground crew but that bit surprised me.

The bit I liked best was the preparation for Ewan McGregor going up in the Typhoon jet. I have mentioned this a time or two in the past (ok, it's an out and out boast) but I have flown in an RAF jet myself just before the Gulf War (my pilot then went on to fly Tornados out there). When Ewan McG had the medical checks and had his G suit fitted, he really took me back. Typhoons are even more sophisticated than the one I went in. I can still remember it as clearly as if it were yesterday.

I know Rhu would never blow her own trumpet, but she wrote two stories about CJ and Molly but set during the war and just after. Not sure if you have read them but they are really good and she transports you back in time. Definitely worth a look if you haven't read them already (and actually worth a second look even if you have read them before).

Wow ilove that’s something you’ll never forget.

Another time another place is a brilliant read I read it again during the snow. Hope to join you tonight although I have a feeling there is football on so DJ around!!

Flowerfan · 27/03/2018 12:43

DH!

Magi84 · 27/03/2018 13:28

I too enjoyed seeing the McGregor brothers programme re the RAF. Bet that did bring back memories of your trip in a jet Ilove - lucky you. Talking of Rhu's fan fic you are so right about how she sets her stories in the WW2 era so well. At present she has a super one on the Pride & Prejudice fanfiction which I am loving. It is called Summer's End and of course Darcy and Elizabeth are the characters. Not Our Girl of course but still a good read and if you like you could always picture BA in it!

Rhubarb01 · 27/03/2018 17:33

Just popped in to check that the watchalong is tonight - series 2 episode 5. Looking forward to it.

Bless you ladies for being so kind. I do have a bit of a fascination about WW2 - I think it's the way it affected so many people in so many different ways and really did bring great change to so many people's lives. I haven't see the RAF programme yet but intend to soon. I've seen those two ATA ladies on other documentaries and have always thought a drama woven around the female ATA pilots would make very interesting watching. Amongst other things they were early pioneers of equal rights for women as they fought for and succeeded in getting equal pay with their male counterparts during the war - somewhat unheard of at the time. I also read a biography of a lady called Diana Barnato-Walker who was an ATA pilot. Her accounts of flying all over the place in poor weather, without radio or instrument assistance, unarmed and sometimes in barely or possibly unairworthy aircraft - sometimes being flown to the scrapheap - was fascinating. In the current times I really think they deserve a drama or film of some kind to bring their story to a wider audience. As a matter of fact my local news yesterday featured a story about the memorial service held in Gloucestershire for Joy Lofthouse (one of the ladies in that RAF programme) which naturally included a fly past by a spitfire.

As far as OG goes I have a feeling it must be soon as Amazon are selling the Nigeria Tour DVD on pre-sale with a release date of 28 May? That being the case I imagine we are looking at mid to late April for it to start so we may or may not manage all four episodes of the Nepal Tour - if we can bear the ending Sad

I'll be back in time for the start at 9pm.

Rhubarb01 · 27/03/2018 20:54

I am back and ready to start in a few minutes.

Ilovelblue · 27/03/2018 20:58

Yes, I am here too - DVD ready and on pause.

Starting now...here comes the recap!

Rhubarb01 · 27/03/2018 21:01

Georgie and Dr Dull having a romantic drink for two ...plus their bodyguards.

Rhubarb01 · 27/03/2018 21:02

That's not a frown... that's just goofy, Georgie.

Ilovelblue · 27/03/2018 21:02

This bit makes me cringe. Chuck him off that roof terrace Georgie!

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 27/03/2018 21:03

At what point, I wonder, does Abu decide to give up on Georgie as a target, or hadn't he really made up his mind at all?

Rhubarb01 · 27/03/2018 21:04

I think CJ needs a shave here. Too much stubble, surely?
