She takes up valuable Elvis-time! And not just Elvis. We could have lots more 2 Section without her, she's an unnecessary sub-plot.

Delphin · 24/04/2018 22:03

I hate the writers, because they killed Capt. Azizi! There, I said it.

eejittwo · 24/04/2018 22:07

They didn't have to kill him, they could have given him life-threatening injuries, but someone had to die so that Georgie could be upset and Elvis console her.

Ilovelblue · 24/04/2018 22:19

I can perfectly understand why TG had Thara as the sub-plot but in my view, it failed and she just popped up to fill a gap. And don't get me started on the everlasting phone battery!

I must say I didn't warm to Tara/Farah/Thara in this series. The story with Bashira was much more central to the whole plot in series 1. I think that they have tried to shine a light on the issue of children being trafficked and lone child migrants seeking a better life in the west that just leads to exploitation but perhaps this wasn't the most effective or realistic way of doing it but they were limited by time. It did, however, serve as a plot device to move the characters away from the village and involve them in some action.

Delphin · 24/04/2018 22:24

Okay, lights out at casa Delphin, it's 23:23. Night-night, and maybe I can make it on Thursday as well :-).

Rhubarb01 · 24/04/2018 22:32

Yes, all being well, will be here for episode 4 on Thursday. I' m going to forget the end and just imagine it ends when Elvis and Georgie get back together.

eejittwo · 24/04/2018 22:37

Me too, Rhu

Ilovelblue · 24/04/2018 23:04

Yes, we have agreed the cut off point I think....

Good morning
Well sort of. Just seen a message forwarded by a friend that her delivery of the DVD has been put back to 6th August!! If this means July on tele I may be on holiday. As our sky box always seems to have a hiccup when we are away there are slight panic stations here in Yorkshire. Has anyone else seen anything?

Magi84 · 25/04/2018 09:03

Haven't seen anything Flower but don't like the sound of that at all! I too am away in July so have the same worries as you. Something has obviously decided them to delay the airing. Guess army things can be precarious for timing as there is always something going on in the world that might conflict and they have to be careful about not upsetting anybody. Ah well more waiting out for us.

Magi84 · 25/04/2018 09:11

Just had a quick look on Amazon and it definitely now says the DVD release date is 31st July 😂

Rhubarb01 · 25/04/2018 10:49

Morning Ladies! I'm having a couple of days off so popping in at an unusual time for me.

Well, it definitely appears as if there's going to be quite some delay before we see the next series - looks like June or July. Summer is not a particularly good time for airing drama series as there's usually too much else going on (Wimbledon at that time of the year) although in these days of catch up I suppose it matters less apart from us hardy fans who want to watch it first. I do hope it's not a sign that they don't think too much of the story and want to bury it in the summer. Let's hope it's just political sensibilities, which are understandable given the news.

At this rate we could do all three watchalong series again! We haven't done the original pilot if anyone fancies it? We'll have to think of something else to amuse us in the meantime. Thinking caps on - sadly Eurovision will only amuse me for about 5 days and there's no SCD for months either. Sad

Magi84 · 25/04/2018 12:27

Must admit Rhu I have been thinking along similar lines re the possible burying of OG in the summer schedule. Trying to put that thought aside but admitting it is a possibility. I can't help thinking that TG really had a good story with the first series where Molly was coming into the army as almost an escape from RL and how it changed the course of her life completely. Feel a continuation of that was probably what he would have wanted but LT not wanting to carry on with it foiled things for him. Georgie being in the army coming from her background didn't have the same impetus so he had to build his story round her love life, which has now gone. Must have been difficult in the ensuing episodes to muster up something to capture the audience.

I'm getting a bit deep here so definitely must be the worry of not seeing CJ!,

Delphin · 25/04/2018 15:51

@Rhu : "We haven't done the original pilot if anyone fancies it?"

Here! I fancy! :-)

eejittwo · 25/04/2018 19:30

Rhu - I don't have series 1, though I could always download it from iTunes. I don't think I've seen the pilot on there, though.

Delphin · 25/04/2018 21:36

The pilot film was on YT way back when, but they've long found it and removed it. I saw it and part of series 1 on YT first and then bought the DVDs.
There is, however, a 10 minute recap for the film on YT, that was broadcast before series 1 started: enables

Ilovelblue · 25/04/2018 23:09

Evening ladies

An unusual flurry of activity today but not good news I'm reading here. I wonder what the problem is? The BBC must have commissioned the series and it will have cost an enormous amount to produce, given the filming overseas, the actors etc, so they're not going to axe it. Like you've all said, being part of a summer schedule isn't ideal.

I had given away my DVD of the pilot but have just bought another one on eBay so am happy to join in with the watchalong. Give it a few days though for it to be delivered please!

Feeling tired tonight so decided to catch up on some recordings from last week when I was away. I've been working with some disabled people who come to a charity's day centre in their garden but have also been doing some renovation of one of their beds in their main garden and which has been allowed to go to rack and ruin. I've been doing some serious digging today and probably more bending down than I should have done! I then came home and did plenty of potting up and work in the greenhouse.

Has anyone watched The Split? It was on at 9pm as we were doing the watchalong last night. The actor who played Milan in OG had a minor role in it. I thought it was him but he was wearing very studious looking glasses which threw me a bit at first but I found him on the cast list at the end.

Rhubarb01 · 25/04/2018 23:35

Evening ilove.

I haven't watched The Split. I'm not sure if I will. I started watching The Woman in White but fell asleep, so I'll have to try again. I remember the BBC doing a two parter on successive nights some years ago which was quite good. The thread on here suggested it was a bit slow - probably why I fell asleep.

eejit I did a quick google and saw the pilot on itunes, so I suppose it's still available?

I really like the pilot story. I think it's quite gritty. I remember watching it at least twice when it was first broadcast. Actually, I was having a little trawl through youtube for OG stuff and discovered this little montage video again. I expect you've seen it but I've always liked this one.

kazzaD66 · 26/04/2018 11:07

Yes rhu that has always been one of my favourites, haven't seen it for a while though. Not such good news if the BBC doesn't think OG is worthy of anything more than the summer hols graveyard slot! We'll just have to see what happens - good job we're good at waiting out Confused

I've recorded both The Woman in White and The Split but haven't watched back either yet. I've seen mixed reviews for both, so would be interested in hearing anyone's views before I decide if they're worth a look or not.

Magi84 · 26/04/2018 14:00

Kazza I've watched the first episodes of both The Woman in White and The Split.
With WIW I found it a little unworldly and certainly the young heroine permanently wearing what appeared to be a white nightie was weird. I have never read the book so can't say if they are following it precisely. I must say I usually like period drama but for me this was too much of the dastardly villain type (Dougray Scott) of overdone villainy, was almost waiting for him to twirl his moustache as part of his menacing look. Not for me.

The Split of course very modern. Well acted I thought so far. Slick dressing and dialogue. Family of lawyers competing against each other - all female so very up to the minute in that respect. I like NW and so far found her on the ball with this. I found they were talking very rapidly but I think that just shows my age rather than anything detrimental to the programme! So I will be watching this over the next few episodes at least to give it a chance.

Hope that is of some help Kazza.

kazzaD66 · 26/04/2018 16:38

Thanks magi it may just come down to whether I get the time to watch anything back!
Rhu just caught up with your last 2 chapters - great updates Smile

Ilovelblue · 26/04/2018 20:20

Hi kazza. I'd agree pretty much with Magi there. If you look at The Split thread on here, I think you will find people were somewhat traumatised by Hannah's shoes (Nicola Walker) as they were very high heels and she was walking to work in them!

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/telly_addicts/3231132-The-Split?pg=5

My main issue is that there were too many characters introduced too quickly and I couldn't always follow who was who. That and the fact that Hannah received two texts and you couldn't even read them unless you had a magnifying glass!

It's worth a watch though I would say. I'll watch next week and see how it develops.
