Been lurking on these threads but not really posted. I really wish I’d put some money on the final line up as I said to my mate a couple of weeks ago that I thought Shane/Courtney would win with Ann in second place! I love Shane/Courtney though so I’m happy :)

picklemepopcorn · 04/02/2018 09:28

Just watched Bots. Is it just me or is Courtney only interesting when there is controversy? I find her interviews really quite tedious. I laughed at Ann putting Rylan on the spot. She's a nightmare to interview! She just doesn't play the game.

Shane L is still my favourite. He was so courteous all the t8me, and so laid back he's horizontal.

Alwaysinmyheart · 04/02/2018 12:03

Courtney is currently watching the series and starting to tweet about it!

AnneEyhtMeyer · 04/02/2018 12:42

The majority of voting is done by betting syndicates.

Grace and Mikey have had their third baby!

MrsJayy · 04/02/2018 12:58

What are betting syndicates? And didn't know Grace & Mikey were still together and on their 3rd baby that is a proper bb relationship.

picklemepopcorn · 04/02/2018 13:00

I'm dreading Ann watching it.

MrsJayy · 04/02/2018 13:02

I don't think Ann would watch 4 weeks worth her fragile constitution couldn't cope 😀

mirialis · 04/02/2018 13:16

pickle - I found his interviews quite dull too, but I don't suppose it was made easier by having your interviewers fawn over you and keep asking the same stuff - so boring listening to the same old stuff about Andrew. He does strike me as being very intelligent so the interviews were disappointing on that score.

Though what I did find interesting was his "it's fun to flirt, once the boys left I was like what's the point in doing drag"? I'm sure he'd say he was joking but if Courtney is his "real" and "feminine" part as he insists, and is sending a message to 15 year old boys that it's ok to be different, then piss off with the message to 15 year old girls that they should perform for the male gaze.

MrsJayy · 04/02/2018 13:24

Piss off indeed I don't think Shane j is as right on as he thinks he is.

picklemepopcorn · 04/02/2018 13:29

Definitely. He's got a lot of potential, but his message is a bit muddled.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 04/02/2018 13:33

MrsJayy - betting syndicates are groups of professional gamblers who bet when the odds are good and then vote to get the result they want. For example, if someone were unlikely to be evicted and the odds are 20-1 they place the bet at those odds then all vote in huge numbers to ensure that person is evicted.

@En

*can't think of one woman that other women would have allowed to represent modern women, stand up to Ann's throwbackish views and still vote for her

Really? Amazing confused*

Why amazing? Women had a selection of women to voter for instead of Ann - and didn't - so not amazing, is it?

I can think of lots of women I admire and who are the better of Ann but they would never be in CBB and even if they were, other women, voting women, wouldn't vote for them.

The point I was making, was not that I couldn't think of women that are better than Ann, duh!!!

But I couldn't think of women, CBB would select, who would agree to go in the show, who would be popular enough to be voted for by the demographic that votes in CBB, - can you?

The posters on here are evidence enough of the difficulty in finding women that other women don't despise for some irrational reason or another and for whom they would vote over Ann.

Who would all the Ann-lovers on here vote for as more worthy winners than Ann?

Amanda, I guess - cause she's the only (other) girl in the world!!!

futuristic1 · 04/02/2018 16:19

I believe that's a bit of an urban myth that betting syndicates control the voting.

Bookies make up a 'book' initially using their knowledge to decide who is most likely to win/lose.

As more bets are placed on one person then the odds shorten on that person making it less and less worthwhile to risk your stake on that person.

The only circumstance when a 'betting syndicate' could realistically profit would be if they managed to place a huge amount of money on an initial outsider, (without the odds shortening - and this is practically impossible as bookies know instantly of unusual betting patterns) and then if the syndicate used their own funds to vote repeatedly for the 'outsider' they wanted to win.

Voted and paid for enough votes to outweigh the votes of all the genuine voters who won't necessarily favour the outsider the syndicate might want to win.

The maths doesn't stack up in the end because the chances of the bookies not knowing from the outset who the likely winner is going to be are very slim.

So from the outset the likely winner's odds will be fairly short anyway.

The bookies set the odds so that it would never be worth the risk of betting loads of money on an outsider and then paying for lots of votes.
The profit isn't there as the bookies reduce the odds as more bets are placed.

I understand the principle is similar to horseracing. The bookie devises a 'book' which ideally means that no matter which horse wins, the bookie will not lose, thrugh a process of offering long odds on some horses to attract money and short odds on others to discourage - even though that horse will be the most likely winner.

toldmywrath · 04/02/2018 16:20

futuristic, I misunderstood your original comment, as did others ( from their responses) The suggestions of women were good ones.

You're still banging the anti Ann drum I see. You have a real chip on your shoulder.

futuristic1 · 04/02/2018 16:25

Shane/Courtney was odds on for most of the show - avering around 8/15 or 1/2 meaning you would have to risk £2 to win £1 + your stake returned.

If you then had to pay out for votes out of your potential profit it would be tricky to make it work financially.

As you say, the window of opportunity is only when the show first opens, before the bookies get a sense of viewer reaction.

It would be a hell of a gamble for a syndicate to pop a few £100k on an outsider in the first week but that would really be your only real chance to make a killing - after the first couple of weeks, I think it would be too difficult to be profitable.

toldmywrath · 04/02/2018 16:26

Don't forget that bookies would use the lay off to avoid large liabilities/payouts.

futuristic1 · 04/02/2018 16:30

@wrath - yep I'm consistent - can't abide the person and all that she stands for.

Yes, I didn't realise how people would read my original comment - but I do now.

There are loads of worthy women that other women would not vote for - it's finding the one they would vote for that's the hard thing - clearly.

futuristic1 · 04/02/2018 16:33

I don't have a 'chip on my shoulder' about Ann

I think it's clear that enough people disagree with her views for it to be more like that she has a chip on her shoulder.

She's in the minority with her views - not me.

If we're talking chippy - it's Ann.

toldmywrath · 04/02/2018 16:37

And now I want some chippy chip chipsGrin

futuristic1 · 04/02/2018 16:39

chip shop chips!

toldmywrath · 04/02/2018 17:27

Yes, chip shop chips are the best! Smile

QuiQuaiQuod · 04/02/2018 17:54

I find it creepy TBH about Shane J constantly referring to 14 year old boys.

Anne was brilliant. apart from wanting hwr to win, it would have been to take the smug sucking lemon faces off IW. Andrew, Emma and Rylan.

Sweet of Hess helping Anne down the stairs.

well, have enjoyed thisthread, take care. xx

AnneEyhtMeyer · 04/02/2018 18:11

Shane J is a misogynist and I agree he is creepy as hell talking about teenage boys.

Anyway now he's out of the house I'll never have to see him again.

I must say, when I look at Courtney, I don't see the face of equality. Hey ho.
