I certainly am

I don't think it's a good as it was when it first started, and it can be a tad predictable at times but I still love this show

That must have been one expensive mink.....Hmm

scrabbler3 · 21/01/2018 22:09

Or one cheap dance school! 😂

DorynownotFloundering · 21/01/2018 22:15

A mix of both I suspect!! But enough for Aunty Edith to get her retirement bungalow in Clacton ? was it?

MipMipMip · 21/01/2018 22:16

Oh no! I want Patsy to come back! They keep writing out my favourite characters. If they touch sister Monica Jones I'm off too!Angry

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 21/01/2018 22:19

I love this show so much!!

My 12 yo dd called trixie getting pregnant on her illicit wend away Blush hopefully the dentist will do the decent thing and marry her...

Clawdy · 21/01/2018 22:22

Trixie's ultra posh accent was worse than ever tonight. Even DH looked up from his newspaper to say "Why is she saying "farst" instead of "first" ?"

JustDanceAddict · 21/01/2018 22:47

Hooray, my weekly cry-fest is back. Was a good one tonight with the Jewish family :-(

Housewife2010 · 21/01/2018 23:05

Trixie has such an affected accent. Lovely Patsy's accent was more genuinely posh.

Beeziekn33ze · 22/01/2018 02:22

Irene - Yes, when the Jewish men sang my tears welled up, the demolition men had stopped work to join the group too.

I was teaching in Camberwell from 1960 and remember that cold '63/4 winter well

HelenaDove · 22/01/2018 02:23

Were Patsy and Delilah the same sex couple?

HelenaDove · 22/01/2018 02:26

My DH is nearly 68 and remembers that winter well as he was 12/13 He had to attend school which wouldnt happen now and they were allowed to keep their coats on until the boiler came on.

After school he was out on the sled.

Pebble21uk · 22/01/2018 08:05

Yes Helena Pasty and Delia were the gay couple... who have apparantely gone on safari in Botswana (random!) according to a postcard received at Nonnatus.

This is all the more impressive as Botswana didn't exist until 1966 Grin and this series is set in 1963.

Enjoying the new Nurse Lucille, but very much missing my favourite vintage lesbians!

BeyondWW · 22/01/2018 09:07

Dory, I cry at literally every single birth too - which is a lot on a midwifery show! DH call CTM "that crying programme"

Nadine did say to her boss that she'd been saving, so presumably she added that to the money from her coat. Surely a dancing school without its own premises doesn't cost that much though, even if it is one with a good reputation. There's no stock and no staff (presumably

  • as midwife woman whose name I can't remember was covering) to pay.
SoupDragon · 22/01/2018 09:37

I love CTM. Nice gentle Sunday night viewing - even the “controversial” stuff is handled gently and without fuss!

I found this week’s one particularly moving as I had to have an exchange transfusion at birrh in the late 60s due to my mother being rhesus -ve. The only difference being that they knew there would be a problem so my mother was induced a month early. It was obvious this was where they were headed with the specific Q&A about it being her first baby, not first pregnancy.

SoupDragon · 22/01/2018 09:40

Have we heard anything recently about Sister Mary Cynthia who had the breakdown? There was the story about the horror of the asylum and then she went somewhere else but I don’t recall anything else.

SoupDragon · 22/01/2018 09:41

Why do they let breech babies hang by their head in the birth canal? I remember Chummy doing it too.

Toddlerteaplease · 22/01/2018 09:54

That's the third time we've had the breech baby storyline. I

I think Cynthia went back to the mother house.

vjg13 · 22/01/2018 10:25

Surely Trixie can have pinched a couple of stray packets of those new fangled contraceptive pills?! Much too ridiculous for her to get pregnant.

Dancergirl · 22/01/2018 10:40

Loved the first episode. Thank goodness it was up to its usual high quality after the disappointing Christmas special.

Trixie is a fantastic midwife.

Love the new midwife, she seems much more interesting than Valerie Dyer (dull).

Miss Chummy and Sister Evangelina though Sad

scrabbler3 · 22/01/2018 10:47

I find Dyer a bit dull, but I suppose she's the Jennifer Worth replacement.

Loving Phyllis and the sergeant.

Those Jewish singers - wonderful.

TheSpottedZebra · 22/01/2018 10:55

I think Trixie's accent sounded just like Kate Middleton when she's doing her speech voice.

Taffeta · 22/01/2018 10:56

ROFL @ Botswana Grin

I loved it too and much relieved after the awfully disappointing Christmas episode

Are they building it up for Nurse Phyllis and the sergeant to get together I wonder? Sharing the strudel made me well up a bit.

jay55 · 22/01/2018 11:00

I’m not loving Phyliss and the sergeant, she’s far too good for him.

BeyondWW · 22/01/2018 11:01

Have they forgotten that they already did police sergeant + midwife? Or was it a common pairing back in the day? Grin

morningtoncrescent62 · 22/01/2018 11:09

This one gave me the weeps, too. But more because of the end of the immigrant Jewish community in the East End. I was born in Stepney (also East End, not far from Poplar) in 1962 and lived there until 1968 when our flats were demolished to make way for roads and high-rises. My earliest memories are of streets full of people not cars, children playing out, and adults with Yiddishe accents who had stories of escaping from Tzarist Russia/Nazi Europe. So I got fully, properly nostalgic for a world I dimmly remember and which has now disappeared.

For some strange reason in tonight's episode someone has gone mad with teal blue. Teal blue interior walls; teal doors; teal windows; teal uniforms; teal kitchen; even a teal blue pashmina (which weren't around then)! One of the things I normally like is the period detail so the teal infection was disappointing.

Yes, I thought that too. And were Trixie's eyes also looking blue? Not just her irises, but her whole eyes?

I love Phyllis but I can't imagine her having much of a thing with grumpy Sgt Plod. She's too much of a feisty individualist for it to get far. I think there'll be a storyline about it, though.
