I certainly am

I don't think it's a good as it was when it first started, and it can be a tad predictable at times but I still love this show

Well that did cross my mind. I got distracted from the story line trying to work out if she was deliberately doing it because Trixie was sore or ill or something or if it was just because the poor actor was very pregnant and incapable of sitting without wincing.

Youcanstayundermyumbrella · 30/01/2018 20:43

I think Trixie is probably meant to look vaguely troubled a lot at the moment if they're working up to her heading to rehab later in the series.

I was wondering why it felt weird to be mean about the Turners and I realised we've lost ShelaghTurner. Has she turned her back on MN? That's a shame.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 31/01/2018 21:55

I hope Trixie comes back after her maternity leave, I feel a bit sad at all the nurses that have left and what happened to Sgt Noakes? I know Miranda buggered off but thought her husband was still about...

We got very excited at the mention of our home town in the first episode, where the new nurse had trained Grin we are easily pleased!!

Clawdy · 31/01/2018 22:21

Oh yes, where is our own ShelaghTurner ?!

SoupDragon · 01/02/2018 07:20

Having stalked via advanced search, she seems to have either name changed or left in August!

Youcanstayundermyumbrella · 01/02/2018 13:19

Maybe she's now masquerading as a Hungarian au pair?

Actually, in 1963, would Hungarians be free to come to the UK as au pairs? In the height of the Cold War?

ShotsFired · 01/02/2018 13:36

Oh. I was completely oblivious to Trixie being pregnant and now I know, I feel like I am just waiting for some plot device for her to go. That's a bit disappointing to be spoiled like that Sad

scrabbler3 · 01/02/2018 19:53

I was wondering that avoiut Hungarian nationals. If I were one in 1963, I'd be coming to the UK hoping to stay! And I'd probably do whatever it took. So, I'm surprised that Shelagh organised an Hungarian au pair so easily and rapidly.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 03/02/2018 03:03

I released partway through where I recognised the football mum from Grin

Trixie looks really quite pregnant I think - not just around the waist, but her face too. We'll only see her behind her bag or behind Nurse Crane's car soon!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 03/02/2018 03:05

*realised

I suppose the au pair might not have been in Hungary when she saw the advertisement?

MustBeThursday · 03/02/2018 06:41

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams I did notice the change in Trixie's face but I thought that (apart from careful prop/camera positions) her increased boobs were the bigger giveaway!

Youcanstayundermyumbrella · 03/02/2018 12:43

I don't think anyone could get out of the USSR easily, for any reason.

Pebble21uk · 03/02/2018 14:37

I don't think geography was the writer's strong point in this episode... as I mentioned upthread, Patsy & Delia also sent a postcard from Botswana, which didn't exist in 1963.

Didn't most au pairs in the 1960s come from Western Europe - France, Germany, Italy etc? How would she have managed to leave a post war communist state and be so well travelled?

IhaveChillyToes · 03/02/2018 15:14

I have a feeling that Stephen McGann RL wife is the producer or writer or something in production staff iirc

So he isn't going anywhere

I said to DH that Phillis and pc plod would end married then find this thread and see that others think the same way GrinGrinGrin

user1andonly · 03/02/2018 15:30

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams same here! I'm normally hopeless at recognizing people but I was convinced I'd seen football mum before and it was driving me mad so I had to google her!

Coroico97 · 03/02/2018 15:37

Anyone know when Season 6 will be on Netflix? Saw Xmas special and Shelagh suddenly has a baby?! Netflix only showing up to Season 5!!

AnneEyhtMeyer · 03/02/2018 16:44

Yes Stephen McGann's wife is the writer (and bizarrely calls herself the creator!) so sadly he is going to be front and centre forever.

I too thought au pairs were mainly from Western Europe until very recently.

Littlelambpeep · 04/02/2018 10:40

Stephen McCann is a bit like Holly Willoughby so.. Related to the right people

AnneEyhtMeyer · 04/02/2018 19:20

Yes, talented brother (one of them) so got work through that, now married to a writer.

Who is Holly Willoughby related to?

Clawdy · 04/02/2018 20:15

I wonder who this "Doctor Tarner" is that Trixie talked about?!

Youcanstayundermyumbrella · 04/02/2018 20:20

Holly Willoughby's husband is a producer.

So they've worked out a back story to explain the Hungarian au pair. I'm glad they bothered.

HelenaDove · 04/02/2018 20:20

Wonder if financial abuse is whats going on at the Lunts.

LascellesMoustache · 04/02/2018 20:20

Ok here's a question...

Who would you have wanted to deliver your baby if you were giving birth? Past or present midwives allowed. And who would you have not wanted?

I'd go for the new nurse who was in the army, I can't remember her name. Or Patsy.

Wouldn't have wanted whoever the original midwife was who the series was based on. Agh can't remember her name...

DorynownotFloundering · 04/02/2018 20:21

Oh gawd, HC is awful, in one so young, tragic..

HelenaDove · 04/02/2018 20:22

oh blimey and its hereditary.
