I’ve had to switch over - so disappointed.

The girls are supposed to be 12, 14, 16 and 18. The actors are nearly my age and similar in age to the actor playing Marmee. And they have all got different accents.

I thought it was awful. Turned it off after ten minutes or so, when Jo burned the hair.

furlinedsheepskinjacket · 26/12/2017 20:26

i thought it was american but they seem all to be irish?

grim innit - i knew it would be from the very first scene when they were wafting about in their nighties

Kittyshopping · 26/12/2017 20:27

Fake snow!

Violletta · 26/12/2017 20:27

i started watching it, but like you lot - turned it off.... awful

UrsulaPandress · 26/12/2017 20:28

Hanging in here.

First 'proper' book I ever read so it is close to my heart.

Whizziwig · 26/12/2017 20:30

It was filmed in Ireland. Apparently the actress playing Jo is the daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke. She has a look of Uma about her.

MelanieCheeks · 26/12/2017 20:33

I can't tune my ear into the accents at all! And the fast whispery delivery doesn't help.

Howyoualldoworkme · 26/12/2017 20:39

I really really wish they would stop going on about Beth dying in Little Women. She doesn't!!

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 26/12/2017 20:39

And the audio quality is awful too

EachandEveryone · 26/12/2017 20:46

My mum said it’s not true to the book. I haven’t read it though.

cedoren · 26/12/2017 20:47

It's awful. The film adaptation with Elizabeth Taylor and Janet Leigh is my favourite.

UrsulaPandress · 26/12/2017 20:52

Erm. Beth does die.

pinkhousesarebest · 26/12/2017 21:12

June Allyson/ Liz Taylor the only Little Women for me. So relieved I don't have to continue watching this.

MrsGrindah · 26/12/2017 21:15

It’s terrrible! The book is one of my favourites so I’m a harsh judge maybe but it’s such a poor adaptation.

Valerrie · 26/12/2017 21:19

Beth doesn't die? Wut?

I had to turn over too, it was godawful.

feral · 26/12/2017 21:21

Bugger. I've recorded it and. Ow I don't think I'll bother Confused

YellowPrimula · 26/12/2017 21:23

Too chocolate boxy for me , I do think it started to improve by the end so may try the next episode.Beth definitely dies .

PiggyPlumPie · 26/12/2017 21:25

Beth doesn't die until Good Wives!

LizzieSiddal · 26/12/2017 21:26

She doesn’t die in the original Little Women Book. She died in the second book in the series.

However they put the two books together at some point so there is confusion.

Orangepear · 26/12/2017 21:27

I was disappointed too. I've always loved the book so was looking forward to it but it was rubbish. The weird Irish accents, and Amy's hair, and how they all looked the same age. So wrong!

themorus · 26/12/2017 21:28

Beth dies but in "good wives" not "little women". Previous adaptations have included Beth's death, Amy's trip to Europe and Meg, Beth and Jo's marriages which all occur in "good wives".

themorus · 26/12/2017 21:29

Sorry Amy's marriage, not Beth's!

SinglePringle · 26/12/2017 21:31

I quite liked it. Thought it was slightly slow but they need that for plot / character development.

10 mins really isn’t long to give a series a chance Confused

MyBrilliantDisguise · 26/12/2017 21:58

Hang on, Beth DOES die in Little Women! Have I remembered that wrongly?

magimedi · 26/12/2017 22:11

I am in my mid 60's & first read Little Women & Little Women Part II (which is Good Wives in the UK) when I was 9. I have re read it nearly every year since & I was expecting little from this TV adaptation.

But I think they really caught the spirit of the books - I could feel the whole sense of the novel from that adaptation & I rerally did not expect to do so.

Looking forward to the next 2 episodes.
