As there is a show coming out on ITv with paddy mcguniess near christmas thought I would start a thread here about everyone's favourite TV moments of all time

OP posts:
LunasSpectreSpecs · 13/12/2017 09:01

Problem is, that this TV programme will be on ITV or Channel 5. So it will be Oliver Reed drunk on the Parkinson show or nudity in Big Brother.

Agree with the Nicholas Winton clip, don't remember it at the time but have seen it several times since and he was a remarkable man. Also David Attenborough with the gorillas and the Berlin wall coming down.

ShotsFired · 13/12/2017 09:07

Mine seem trivial in the face of some pp, but two TWD contenders:

When Negan Lucille’d Glenn after Abraham. I actually gasped out loud and grabbed OHs’ arm in shock.

When Rick turns to the group and comes out with the line, “WE are the Walking Dead…”

Aside from them, another vote for Musharaf:

The moon landing must be one of the biggest global TV events ever, surely! The challenger disaster. 9/11 was a terror attack that was designed to be televised too. I can remember being on Tottenham Court Road that day and crowds of people were standing outside the electronics stores, watching TV on the street. Never witnessed that before.

Fiction: Del and Rodney as Batman and Robin. Bob in the mirror in Twin Peaks. The death of Buffy's mum.

Ta1kinPeace · 13/12/2017 17:32

Richard Nixon's resignation
I was in the US at the time. The people I was staying with NEVER watched TV but they sat me down in front of it that day.

JustDanceAddict · 13/12/2017 17:40

News wise;’: 9/11 - watched it all unfold on TV and it was unbelievable
Mandela being released
Berlin Wall coming down

Other stuff
Jarvis cocker mooning Michael Jackson
Sad, but I will always remember Tommy Cooper dying on live TV. We thought it was part of his act.

Andy Murray winning Wimbledon

Wheelywheel · 13/12/2017 17:43

'David is dead' on celeb bb was a classic.

afrikat · 13/12/2017 17:57

There are some excellent serious entries here - I'll go for a shallow one.. the execution of Ned in Game of Thrones. You totally thought he was the lead character, he was the best known actor..he shouldn't have been able to die! It was a massive turning point in the show and taught you not to get too attached! 5 years on and I'm still not over it 😂

battenbergbutterfly · 13/12/2017 18:02

Peggy and Stan realising they were in love in Mad Men.

The last episode of Mad Men when Don smiles.

DeathByMascara · 13/12/2017 18:08

afrikat I’m not over the death of Oberyn - that was brutal even by GOT standards!

Littlebatcalledlucille · 13/12/2017 18:12

Does anybody remember It'll be alright on the night?

I can't link on my phone but, there's this guy in a leotard mincing to some disco music and pulls a hamstring or something? (Does anyone remember this) oh Jesus, I cry every time I see it!

And Madonna and the cape!

afrikat · 13/12/2017 18:26

deathbymascara I agree - and there are more I could easily list but after Ned I was always on guard waiting for something to happen -before Ned I was so complacent 😂

aurorie11 · 13/12/2017 18:31

Most moving, Yes to Blackadder goes Forth and final scene.

Funniest- Only fools, my favourite is Del and Rodney running and emerging from the mist as Batman and Robin.

Twang · 13/12/2017 18:42

YY to Tommy Cooper dying on TV.

Those awful public information adverts, in particular the one where the kid climbs up a pylon to collect his frisbee.

Oliver Reed pissed up on WoganGrin

tararabumdeay · 13/12/2017 18:50

Hillsborough very pregnant and not at all into football but it was on and we didn't have a remote so didn't want to get up off the floor cushions to turn over. Woke up from a light doze and saw it happening. The horror of it was apparent before the scale of it was realised.

LemonScentedStickyBat · 13/12/2017 18:56

The newsflash about the Herald of Free Enterprise
Ghostwatch

Anatidae · 13/12/2017 19:10

Bad stuff:
Watching Challenger explode. That affected me as a child.
9/11 - I remember watching thinking ‘the world is going to change’ genuinely shocking
SAN Francisco earthquake (89?) where the freeway collapsed

Good stuff

Yvette fielding massacring a pancake on blue peter.
Pride and prejudice
Berlin Wall coming down - that bloke just going for it in a trance with the sledgehammer.
Don’t tell him pike! Most of dads army.
Most of blackadder

haveyouseemyhamster · 13/12/2017 22:15

I was also shocked by Ned Stark's execution, but the best scene in GOT has been Littlefinger's exit - it was so cleverly set up.

Gazelda · 13/12/2017 22:24

9/11. Like most of the world, I was transfixed and horrified, realising that our world was changing.

This Life -the punch, then Warren's reaction.

Only Fools when Del Boy falls through the bar.

Fadingmemory · 13/12/2017 22:25

Blackadder Goes Forth - idiocy followed by them going over the top. So poignant.
9/11
Moon landings
Kennedy's assassination (am old)
Nicholas Winton

OneInAMillionYou · 13/12/2017 22:35

Oh yes hamster
Brilliant television, Arya and Sansa working together in secret and Littlefinger's blustering attempts, even to the end, to deceive them.

My favourite GoT moment is when Sansa and Jon were reunited, those moments when they just LOOKED at each other. I was sobbing.

Another one, in the final episode of The West Wing, when Abby asks Jed what he is thinking about... "Tomorrow..."

Cue proper crying

Great thread OP. Good mixture of factual/serious and fiction/dramatic/emotional.

TiddlesUpATree · 13/12/2017 22:41

Some great suggestions here. Lovely thread. Can I add :
Vicar of dibley. It’s orange cake......with Branston pickle flavoured icing.

Sgtmajormummy · 13/12/2017 22:50

Queen on Live Aid.

sweatylemon · 13/12/2017 23:31

The first News coverage of Princess Diana's death.
Felt quite numb
Then the aftermath, and the funeral.
All very surreal

Snowman41 · 13/12/2017 23:52

David is dead' on celeb bb was a classic.

One of the funniest things I have ever seen

GrooovyLass · 13/12/2017 23:55

A line more than a scene: "I am a lizard woman from the dawn of time. And this is my wife." Doctor Who for the uninitiated! Btw if I type "I am" into my phone the auto thingy suggests the rest of that quote...
