The whole show could do with having less celebs to start with. It goes on too long and every year st the half way point it loses something, which is why the overhype Blackpool.

RosyWelshcakes · 19/11/2017 12:38

*Rosy who the hell are you to judge her tears for her mum.

I’m sorry. I didn’t realize people could only comment on the tears if they believed them to be genuine.

RosyWelshcakes · 19/11/2017 12:40

Or perhaps that should be if they didn’t believe them to be a shameless attempt at a sympathy vote. The likes of what we’ve now seen from her week in and week out.

Angelalley · 19/11/2017 12:41

oh yes cos her tears are so real. and the humble.....ooh me
don't think so.
Jonnie doesn't use his disability . even when Shirley is so tactless.
same with susan not using her height.

MrsJayy · 19/11/2017 12:43

Monkseal wasn't his usual it reads like he is just fed up.

MrsJayy · 19/11/2017 12:45

Tbf Alexandras mum died in August this is November the woman is missing her mum .

TopBitchoftheWitches · 19/11/2017 12:49

I'd like Gemma to win, she listens to what the judges say and each week she gets better and better.

HangryHanderson · 19/11/2017 13:20

pinkandstripey I was being flippant re Karen and Will Young being enemies - if you recall, he left the show last year only three(?) weeks in. Hence only having 3 in the final (I think they were originally hoping for Clifton vs Clifton vs Clifton plus Danny) but Will being depressed put paid to that.
They never slated each other but in an interview much later Karen gave the distinct impression of being pissed off with how it went down and there were the usual rumours about her being a slave driver (similar to Ola and Oti but again, as with the latter, other partners of Karen have always spoken highly of her).
Peter Kay pretended Judge goosed him last year - at least this year he repeated the joke without it coming across as homophobic. As for promoting his show, twas neither necessary nor funny but he raised loads for Children in need so I don't really have any fucks to give. Same as I don't find Lenny funny either.
I went from being [shocked] to actually respectful of how Car Share was left as it was a gutsy move not having a cliched happy ending, leaving it at two series and having no Xmas finale planned. So am irked that next year there will be both an unscripted pile of bollocks and a give the people what they want forced finale. Oh well.
I liked the pro dance last night but was not wowed by any of the sleb dances to be honest. Nor do I think overall the standard has been as good as other years. So-called improvement and journeys are being promoted as usual but I'm not really seeing it...more that they have good weeks and bad weeks per dance learned (they learn the steps to the routines and that's that). The winners are usually more consistent than that.
So Joe's tango, CCC and salsa.
Gemma being told how much she's improving when her viennese, foxtrot, salsa were mediocre.
Mollie and Jonnie have been consistently average/no breakthrough.
Debs' Latin has been overmarked.

that leaves Susan, Davood and Alex.
Much as though the devil in me finds Susan making the final a funny twist, I don't think she's quite done enough yet. I had thought the paso would be like her QS and be the judge's choice but no.
Davood I can take or leave. Nadijya is very beige to me.

Although I was disappointed by her zombie tango and I wasn't that amazed by her QS last night, Alexandra is by far and away the most consistent across two months. She does not have the likeability factor that Jay had and Danny showed last year consistency doesn't guarantee a win but I think she has done enough and I would not begrudge her a win. She isn't the first ringer and she won't be the last.

CeeBeeBee · 19/11/2017 13:21

I agree with a previous poster that AB needs to be more restrained in expressing her emotions on tv, as it seems to be the thing that is making her more unpopular.

However, I genuinely don't think she's using her mother's death to elicit sympathy votes, as we grieve in different ways.

She is the best dancer but the least popular contestant, so I think it would be surprising if she did win.

ppeatfruit · 19/11/2017 13:34

I'm listening to R2 at the moment and it's being presented by Craig RH!! (well the guy is a very good impressionist if it isn't him!) Saying Adele is up for playing Nancy in a new version of Oliver.

ppeatfruit · 19/11/2017 13:37

Some people cry easily anyway Cee. Ore did (it wasn't to elicit a sympathy vote it was just him) Alex has reason but she also maybe cries easily. in the heat of the moment.

People can be mean.

HangryHanderson · 19/11/2017 13:38

Gemma - ''each week she gets better and better''
20 26 31 35 24 30 26 28 38
ccc - waltz - charleston - paso - foxtrot - jive - salsa - viennese - AS
No - she has had three solid dances (charleston, paso and AS) and been lucky on three weeks not to have ended up in the dance off.
I say that without malice - Gemma is as good a finalist as any - but the idea of getting better each week does not stack up against the evidence. She is simply getting a push this week like Davood did last week (They always do this as we get nearer the final, so it looks like all the finalists were backed by the panel).

I can totally see Adele as Nancy. She is not that dissimilar to Jodie Prenger.

CeeBeeBee · 19/11/2017 13:46

I agree ppeatfruit, there are some very horrible comments about AB that goes beyond just criticising her behaviour or dancing, especially on FB, Twitter and the tabloid comments section .

areyoubeingserviced · 19/11/2017 14:29

I am becoming increasingly uncomfortable with the constan’bullying’ of Alexandra Burke. The witch hunt by certain sectors of the media is scary to say the least.
I actually fear for her mental health. She has just lost her mother and then has to endure the constant criticism.
It just seems that people have jumped on the hate Alexandra bandwagon and if Kevin made a face , he has proved himself to be an unprofessional twat.
Strictly is probably taking her mind off her mother’s death and given her something to focus on. All these ‘fake’ tears comments are cruel and uncalled for.

Cheeseandcucumber · 19/11/2017 14:36

Agreed, areyoubeingserviced. She's not a professional dancer (in same sense as the strictly pros), yet she's as good as one and that, along with her very understandable high emotions, means she doesn't get the votes Confused makes no sense. It's a dance contest and she's the best. Would people rather she stopped trying to be humble & grateful to instead say 'yes I was expecting 10s, I'm finding all of this faaar to easy'. She can't win.

bonfireheart · 19/11/2017 15:00

Last year Danny was criticised for not showing enough emotion and now Alex is being criticised for the opposite.

bonfireheart · 19/11/2017 15:04

My mum died last year but this morning I woke up missing her so much, I had a good cry in bed and have managed to get myself up and fed- just about. My colleagues have been nothing but supportive, hate to imagine them having conversations about whether the level of grief I'm experiencing is too much or too little.

CassandraCross · 19/11/2017 15:18

I've not seen any of the comments about AB on Twitter, FB or in the Tabloids but I can imagine their tone, bullying is not okay whoever is the target.

I do get the feeling that AB is not a popular contestant, I also get the feeling she wasn't that well thought of not only when she appeared in and (ironically) won X Factor but also when she appeared as a judge on it. For some reason she doesn't seem to chime with the public very well - some people do, some don't, irrespective of talent.

I do think she is a good dancer but I'm not blown away by her, there is something lacking in her performance, something just not coming across 'right', I don't know what it is. I wouldn't be upset if she won, she's done more than enough in dance terms to deserve it but I wouldn't be cheering from the rafters either, I would be somewhat indifferent.

bonfireheart · 19/11/2017 15:20

CassandraCross I remember Craig telling a previous celeb that their dancing had 'no light and shade'. Didn't really get what he meant but I do now I've seen Alex dance and that's what I think it's lacking - light and shade. That's something I think Danny totally nailed.

GrouchyKiwi · 19/11/2017 15:23

Also agree areyoubeingserviced. I find it all very distasteful and I really hope she's being sensible and not reading or paying attention to any of the comments in the media and on social media.

It's fine not to warm to a person because of how you perceive their behaviour, but it's not fine to criticise how someone reacts to the death of a very close loved one, or to pour constant vitriol about a person. At the very least it makes these threads very unpleasant and I'm getting to a point where I don't want to take part in them, which I'd hate, as I love discussing the dances & costumes etc with the majority of people here.

GrouchyKiwi · 19/11/2017 15:25

Cross posts there.

Yes, bonfire, Danny was great with the light and shade. I frequently rewatch lots of his dances. I think you might be right that Alexandra doesn't have that yet. I'd like to see what she does with American Smooth or Foxtrot. I think Gorka should choreograph understated & elegant dances for those to show that she can do that too.

Bejazzled · 19/11/2017 15:28

AB probably just isn't likeable. There's been plenty of other contestants in previous years who liked a tear (and some of the professionals) but funnily enough she is the first person who has elicited the cynical response from the public and obviously from the other participants in the show and that doesn't just happen without reason.

She is obviously a super dancer and has as many fans as detractors.

GrouchyKiwi · 19/11/2017 15:33

I think plenty of people reacted cynically to Ore's tears last year, Bejazzled. I know I did.
