Ore was like a burst dam he was very emotional on his emotional rollercoaster Grin

CassandraCross · 19/11/2017 15:40

bonfire that makes perfect sense and I agree that is most likely what it is, thank you.

OneInAMillionYou · 19/11/2017 15:56

Cassandra yes, Strictly used to be such a treat for me and mine. We had an office sweepstake and I would record and keep every episode to watch in miserable January, because there were so many dances that were worth a repeat viewing.

Not this year. I've deleted them as soon as we've watched them. I think Aston staying might have balanced the show out a bit more, and we could have seen some memorable performances from him.

I'm not saying that, because Aston went that's the end of the show, but I do find the cast really 'B' list. Sadly AB may be technically the best of a bad bunch but I find her very ungainly, her legs are always far too wide apart in Latin and the ghastly facial expressions are a bit turn off.

A few weeks to go, hope for some classic, clearly identifiable ballroom and Latin, with suitable music and costumes. Too much to expect?

Clawdy · 19/11/2017 16:18

Ore's tears seemed genuine - remember some shots of him getting weepy at his wedding. Alexandra's seem fake. That's the way lots of people see it. Can't be helped. It's not just the tears, it's the gasping and hooting that annoy people. Katie Derham was similarly irritating.

sheldonesque · 19/11/2017 16:27

Gemma is my favourite.

Loved Susan - didn't last night. Kev danced around her going 'me me me - it's all about meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee' He showed her up.

AB is good, no denying that. Her legs, arms and face may be giving it laldy but she's strangely expressionless for me. I just don't feel anything when she dances. Nothing.

All I hear in my head during the interview is Quint. 'she’s got lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll’s eyes'

Littlebelina · 19/11/2017 16:28

I haven't warmed to Alex and as I said I don't think she helps herself with some of her comments. Her being in a show that Craig has directed will probably ultimately cost her as well. That being said I didn't see anything fake in her tears over her mum and really felt for her. It is below the belt to criticise for that (esp given how recent it was)

CassandraCross · 19/11/2017 16:29

One I'm weirdly pleased that someone else feels the way I do about the current series of Strictly! I think Aston going deflated quicker an already deflating balloon (if that makes senseGrin).

I find the make-up used on Alexandra very off-putting, it doesn't, imo, suit her or do her any favours.

Regarding your last comment - I fear it is too much to expect, sadly.

wowfudge · 19/11/2017 16:35

It isn't a popularity contest though, it's a dancing competition. I think Alexandra is getting a lot of unjustified stick on here - she is brilliant and clearly works very hard.

It's interesting to see how some people are good at either ballroom or Latin and others good at both. Aston was better at Latin and out of hold. The decision that Mollie should stay was right as it was based on the actual dance in the dance off and themselves the rules! Debbie hasn't had such high marks since her tango two weeks ago.

CassandraCross · 19/11/2017 16:49

I think it is both a dancing and a popularity contest wow and has been set up as such. The public choose their favourites and that can be based on their dancing ability, likeability for the celeb or pro or any other random reason, contestants do need to please both the judges and the public.

I have no issue with Aston going on the basis of the dance he did (which I blame Janette for as her choreography of that dance was appalling) but him going was a loss to the competition overall.

CassandraCross · 19/11/2017 16:52

Also wow I don't think I've been guilty of giving AB any stick, I agree she is a very good dancer but I'm not warming to her. As I said earlier there is something about her performance that is lacking for me - bonfire described it as light and shade and I think that sums it up very well.

SoupDragon · 19/11/2017 17:04

It isn't a popularity contest though, it's a dancing competition

If that were true there would be no public vote.

Theromanempire · 19/11/2017 17:07

Just checking in Smile

Main thoughts from last night was that Gemma's dress was lovely for once and Debbie's dance was severely lacking in samba content, was dull and those samba rolls just looked weird Confused

Claywrangler · 19/11/2017 17:11

Really enjoyed Gemma and I it was Alex's best week for me, but I love QS and AS. I thought Mollie did rather well with stupid music. Would feel OK to see Jonnie go.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 19/11/2017 17:19

I agree that this year's Strictly lacks the passion and interest of the early years. I thinker's been going gently downhill for a couple of years but fell into a ditch all of a sudden this year.

And I'm another one who finds AB an impressive dancer, but I just can't warm to her. She's strangely empty somehow as though she has no soul and I couldn't put my finger on it, but there is something sadly lacking in her.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 19/11/2017 17:22

Expect Jonie and Mollie or Jonnie and Susan tonight, but I wouldn't like to guess who will be out.

I have thoughtful a while that Jonnie didn't seem to give a toss about the show - but it struck me today that he might feel like that because the judges always comment on his bum, and it's something that he can't do anything about. He just physically can't.

That would demoralise me if I was in his position.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 19/11/2017 17:22

*thought for, not thoughtfuul

CassandraCross · 19/11/2017 17:30

Exactly Soup if the competition was purely a dance competition with no element of popularity with the public at least half the people who made it to the final and/or won the competition wouldn't have done so.

herecomesthsun · 19/11/2017 17:47

I remember when my mum died, the world seemed to have all the colour drained out of it. I was struck by people on here saying similar things about the experience of losing their mum.

Alexandra is actually very young to be going through this and is in an incredibly public situation. She is doing very well carrying on at all with a gruelling and demanding schedule, maybe nuances of light and shade are too much to give at the moment.

I have no idea what she would normally be like.

BalloonSlayer · 19/11/2017 17:51

As a prev poster said I thought Debbie and Giovanni's samba rolls rather put one in mind of that Only Fools and Horses episode with Del Boy and Rodley struggling to manhandle those blow up dolls.

Horsemad · 19/11/2017 18:08

Haha, that was me BalloonSlayer 😁 it was most unseemly!!

HangryHanderson · 19/11/2017 18:31

`the romanempire glad it's not just me who liked Gemma's dress. I think she really suits bright colours even though she has asked for black.

HangryHanderson · 19/11/2017 18:43

forums.digitalspy.com/discussion/2253331/going-on-in-the-background/p1

So I've looked at the video footage on this thread a few times and I guess I like to think the best of everybody, but I have no idea why AJ and Kev's body language was deemed negatively.

HolyShmoly · 19/11/2017 18:46

Loved Susan - didn't last night. Kev danced around her going 'me me me - it's all about meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee' He showed her up.
This is my exact thoughts. Didn't he have his Strictly Ballroom moment when he did the paso with Susanna? He did Susan a massive disservice with this dance, which made me sad as she seems to genuinely be enjoying the Strictly experience.

brussels3467 · 19/11/2017 18:52

For those who say AB is unpopular, do you think that the majority of people who vote on SCD are on FB or twitter? I am not sure that comments on social media are representative of the people who vote.

Also - I don't know anyone who watches it live - most people watch later so they can zip through the nonsense. How many of you watch live?

ilovesooty · 19/11/2017 18:56

I watch live.
