I think Susan might do OK tonight with her American Smooth. If they've been allowed/if Kevin has any sense, they'll do it along similar lines to their quickstep, which was a delight and a crowdpleaser for the voting audience but also got the judges' approval.

Re: the popcorn, I think they were making a joke about people having vats of popcorn at the cinema rather than about Susan being fat and greedy.

ppeatfruit · 25/11/2017 15:33

Anyone watching the beeb atm? the best show about Fred and Ginger . They showed a clip of the nicest dance I think I've ever seen them do; leading a crowd doing "The YAM" No i hadn't heard of it either, but it was a fab mix of tapping and American smooth.

WHY DON'T THEY DO TAPPING on Strictly??

ppeatfruit · 25/11/2017 15:36

I'm not sure about the popcorn joke Rhiannon I immediately thought Hmm they didn't BOTH have huge buckets..I'd 've thought that Susan has the cohones to say eff off to whoever suggested the 'joke'.

CaveMum · 25/11/2017 15:38

including tap would be a slippery slope though and they’d start dragging in random other dances. Strictly needs to stay about partner dancing, to be honest I wouldn’t be bothered if they got rid of the Charleston as it’s very much the odd one out.

ShirleyPhallus · 25/11/2017 15:44

Tap dancing takes an awful long time to learn to a good standard that we would just have several people doing shuffle ballchanges for two whole minutes unless they have good prior experience, in which case it would highlight the difference in ability so much more than ballroom + latin

GrouchyKiwi · 25/11/2017 15:50

I also wouldn't mind if they got rid of the Charleston, though we'd then miss out on Giovanni's charming pronunciation.

mornington I think Gemma's dress also had red stripes in it, but quite often I do find the outfits clash.

ppeatfruit · 25/11/2017 15:51

Cave Fred and Ginge were tapping in hold , it was brilliant. I love the Charleston tbh.

It depends on the professional doesn't it Shirley ? it would be more interesting than watching AB doing dances that all seem the same.

CalmanOnSpeeddial · 25/11/2017 15:53

Are you in “the regions” pleat? I’m actually watching Fred Astaire in Daddy Longlegs on BBC2 at the moment and BBC1 is showing the rugby so I guess it varies. Daddy Longlegs is not a great film but it’s got a couple of cracking dance numbers (the interminable ballet that’s on at the moment is not one of them).

I agree that tap would be a mistake. Anyone who’s ever suffered through their primary age child’s dance show will know from bitter experience that you can fanny around quite a lot to cover up inadequacies in ballet and jazz but there is nowhere to hide in tap.

ppeatfruit · 25/11/2017 15:53

I LOVE the Charleston again Grin . They don't do enough proper ballroom though that's true.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 25/11/2017 16:02

Nooo! I LOVE the Charleston!

Fuzzy - If you are having problems getting on to MN, I think you should send little FK to me now, in case there's a can't-get-onto'MN tragedy, and little FKis the one to suffer.

Won't someone tin of the Kiwis?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 25/11/2017 16:03

*think, not tin

ppeatfruit · 25/11/2017 16:08

Yes Calman If you can call France the provinces Grin . We do 6 months here and 6 months abroad. 'Daddy Longlegs' is [was] on after the Fred and Ginge show.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 25/11/2017 16:17

I am yearning for a bit of "proper" ballroom and the like now. I feel like Len Confused Stop all the faffing abaht!

I think it's because there have been some very fast n' frantic gimmicky pro dances this season. And Janette and Aston's Viennese Waltz was a travesty of the genre in terms of costume. I had to go back and watch Oti and Danny's again to recover.

I love a good Aljaz ballroom dance - whatever you think of Abbey as a Strictly contestant, he used to be able to whirl her round the floor beautifully.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 25/11/2017 16:22

I love the Charleston. We can't get rid of it. For some middle of the board dancers, it really brings them alive.

I watched an ITT clip on iplayer today where they were all talking about their partnerships with each other (dancing, not DM gossip partnerships), and Alexandra was crying while talking about Gorka. And it is getting a bit Ore now. I know she's good but I still don't feel a thing when watching her dances - the paso was the only one that I found exciting to watch.

Can't really decide who I want to win. I think it might be Davood Grin

RhiannonOHara · 25/11/2017 16:23

ppeat, I'd 've thought that Susan has the cohones to say eff off to whoever suggested the 'joke'.

Me too, which is why I am assuming she WAS OK with doing it. I think only her having popcorn worked as a piece of visual/timing humour; Kevin comes through the door all excited about the film, then she comes through the door and ha ha she's got a vat of popcorn.

CalmanOnSpeeddial · 25/11/2017 16:29

Whenever I want to watch magical ballroom I go back to Matt and Alesha. Her footwork may not have been perfect but you can’t fauly the atmosphere (and lack of faffing about).
Legend has it that Matthew forgot the choreography to the foxtrot half way through. You can hear that Craig’s a bit choked up watching it, which I’ve never seen before or since.

ShirleyPhallus · 25/11/2017 16:39

Well yes ppeatfruit but then I would be all in favour of only having celebs who have prior dance training and none of the duffers at all! For me, I just love watching Good dancing and really don’t care about the “Ive never danced before here’s my journey” lot.

So you think you can dance was good because it had a great mix of all styles of dancing and all the contestants were of a very highly trained standard. Just was missing the Saturday night feel from it

ShirleyPhallus · 25/11/2017 16:41

There was no better Charleston than Georgia and JoeVarney!

m.youtube.com/watch?v=HaoDElHUIqw

So so slick!

GrouchyKiwi · 25/11/2017 16:49

Oooh, Shirley, yes! I loved that Charleston so much.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 25/11/2017 17:00

That one and also the Brendan/Sophie classic. Loved that.

SoupDragon · 25/11/2017 17:06

My favourite Charleston was Sophie Ellis Bextor and Brendan. I still feel cheated we didn't see it in the final as it was damn good in week 2 - it would have been amazing after all that dance experience!

chicaguapa · 25/11/2017 17:33

I'm going to have to stop clicking on the YouTube links as each time I do I disappear down a rabbit hole with Danny & Oti. There's no-one that excites me like that this year. I feel that if my TV broke and I didn't watch any of the series I wouldn't miss it. Gorka aside. Grin

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 25/11/2017 18:09
Grin
MrsJamin · 25/11/2017 18:19

This year there hasn't been a dance that has moved me, it's all a bit "that was impressive" or "that wasn't great" but apart from the morecambe and wise bring me sunshine dance, I don't think any dance has made me feel anything in particular. Am I dead inside or have other people felt similarly?

ShirleyPhallus · 25/11/2017 18:22

I agree MrsJamin. There has been no “wow” moment for me and no “watch it again” moment like when Ed Balls did Gangnam Style
