Danny and oti’s Charleston was amazing

I really am missing a strong male celebrity this year

m.youtube.com/watch?v=TbLFzDrikMU

Thetreesareallgone · 19/11/2017 22:07

I rewatched that Charleston yesterday just for a bit of Blackpool refreshment. It really had the 'wow' factor.

MrsJamin · 19/11/2017 22:23

Danny Mac was incredible but just a hit too slick and professional to win, like alexandra this year, I think. As much as I am loving Susan's "journey" she really shouldn't be in the running to win this. Jk Rowling in her fan club, she was surely the most famous person in strictly last night!

CeeBeeBee · 19/11/2017 22:27

Aston was the strong male contestant but still got booted. Sad

OneInAMillionYou · 19/11/2017 22:40

Thank you Shirley for posting that video. Was it really just a year ago? There hasn't been a single dance that good on this season.
Still can't believe Danny lost out to that other (BBC presenter) dude 🙄

Horsemad · 19/11/2017 22:42

Oh that Charleston from Danny & Oti gives me goosebumps, it is soooo good! Smile

OneInAMillionYou · 19/11/2017 22:42

In casting for next year, I hope they throw away their 'quota' checklist and choose heaps of people who can get to a good standard and bring back the quality of the show.
Let's not bother with any soap actors or newsreaders for a start!

Who would you like to see?

Horsemad · 19/11/2017 22:45

Ed Sheeran!

TheweewitchRoz · 19/11/2017 22:48

I love Gemma & Susan - both have improved so much & I hope they make it to the final.

I’d also like to see Alexandra & Debbie in the final too.

Theromanempire · 19/11/2017 22:54

Michael Ball (sorry but I love him and think he would be a fab contestant Grin). Based on the other night, Mark Curry would be good aswell.

I have a long wishlist of celebs I'd like to see on Strictly...

Clawdy · 19/11/2017 22:59

Let's have a politician - Gove would be hilarious!

CalmanOnSpeeddial · 19/11/2017 23:02

Just caught up. Susan’s time is now up I think, much as I love her and her loyal Scottish female support crew. I fear she’s about to get some horrendous abuse on the internet (entirely unfairly because she hasn’t knocked out anyone who was a real contender apart from Aston who she beat fair and square on the leaderboard that week).

Interesting to see that despite all the speculation about Johnnie hating Strictly/ bunking off training/suffering terrible pain he’s now signed up for the tour.

I enjoyed Katya’s totally mad Salsa lifts.

I also appreciated the fact that Aljaz has learned from the failures of his earlier overambitious lifts with Gemma and scaled it back to manageable lifts which they can achieve flawlessly and elegantly without looking like the man from Warren Evans heaving a king sized mattress round a spiral staircase. Certain other male pros also partnered with celebs almost as large as they are (and also beginning with A) could learn from this approach.

AppleKatie · 19/11/2017 23:06

Wow, I didn't particularly like Danny at the time but that Charleston is by far and away better than anything we saw this weekend. Lovely to remind ourselves that Oti can do more than just dance around a rigid partner playing parkour...

Ceto · 19/11/2017 23:17

When I heard her talk back to Shirley I thought "Whoa! You're dead in the water now, mate!" but as you say, Shirley just ignored it

She didn't talk back - it was really obvious that she was joking at her own expense.

toldmywrath · 19/11/2017 23:22

I think if a male compere had said to a female celebrity that she had a lovely bottom, there would be raised eyebrows. I wonder if Tess will be pulled up on it?

HangryHanderson · 19/11/2017 23:25

Who would I like to see?
Daniel Mays
Duncan FromBlue*
Martine Mccutcheon
Glynis Barber#
Anthea Turner*
Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen#
Jack Monroe

The problem is that they cannot recruit current Coro stars and won't recruit Dancing on Ice*/other dance show# alumni. I cannot think of many who did Jungle and Strictly - Mark Wright?
The current crop on IACGMOOH (series 17) shows what a small pool there is to actually choose from. You'd think people would bite their hands off to learn to dance but all the realities shows seem to be struggling of late to come up with a roster of household names.

HangryHanderson · 19/11/2017 23:28

Nadine from Girls Aloud
Una Healy
Geri Horner or Melanie C
Andrew Ridgeley
Martin Kemp

Any of those would do nicely

HangryHanderson · 19/11/2017 23:33

Jay Aston
Adam Hills
Harry Hill

or any of the Xmas lot...
John Barrowman
Charlie Brooks
Rufus Hound
Helen Skelton
Matt Goss

Horsemad · 19/11/2017 23:48

They should have a series with the winners from the last 12 seasons.

It would be interesting to see them compete against each other.

CassandraCross · 19/11/2017 23:51

Calman this is such a brilliant description, thank you!Grin

Aljaz has learned from the failures of his earlier overambitious lifts with Gemma and scaled it back to manageable lifts which they can achieve flawlessly and elegantly without looking like the man from Warren Evans heaving a king sized mattress round a spiral staircase.

OneInAMillionYou · 20/11/2017 00:44

Oh great suggestions for dream contestants!

Martin Kemp YES

Jay Aston YES she has the most amazing legs which I really coveted when she was in Bucks Fizz in the 80s

Tom Jones would never do it but that man can move!

I remember Nadine hating dancing when she was in Pop Stars The Rivals but she certainly got better in Girls Aloud.

Also mad thought, Jason Momoa from Game of Thrones. Imagine Khal Drogo doing the Paso Doble 😀

HangryHanderson · 20/11/2017 01:48

horse
an all stars, like DWTS? They had six returning champions, three runner ups, two finalists, one former shock boot and...Pammy Anderson.
I wouldn't mind that, although it's kind of been done via the Xmas specials.
I'd have...
Jay, Kara, Harry, Louis, Jill, Alesha (6 champions)
Danny, Chelsea, Denise VO (runner ups) Natalie G, Jason D, (finalists)
Pixie (or Aston) (shock boot) and Stephanie Beacham Wink

I wouldn't mind seeing Colin, Holly or Sophie again if one of the above declined. And the Pammy slot by Stephanie could be Nancy Lollypop, Jerry Hall or Martina.

Problem = pros have left. Only Oti, Pasha, Brendan, Anton could partner their originals. The rest would all have new partnerships, the chemistry would not be the same and the only good thing would be Danny taking the title.

IhaveChillyToes · 20/11/2017 02:08

There is one celeb that I have recently heard saying would absolutely love to do strictly but hasn't been asked but for the life of me I can't remember who it was

Does anybody else remember who it was?

HangryHanderson · 20/11/2017 02:44

ooh I don't know. Helen Skelton said recently she'd love to do the full run (did xmas a few years back)

Am just reading who has turned it down...
david harewood, maureen lipman, bradley wiggins, michelle keegan, pippa middleton, louis walsh, mel c, noel gallagher, diane abbott, noel edmonds, linford christie, babs windsor, patrick stewart, cherie blair, jessica ennis-hill, matt willlis, scarlet moffatt

coleen nolan and nadia sawalha would both like to do it. so would joe wicks joe mcelderry if schedules permit. Michaela Strachan would love to but never been asked.
mike tindall/zara/ross kemp - never say never
gok wan - only if paired with a man allegedly (why not Neil?)

MrsJamin · 20/11/2017 05:33

Would love to see any if these
Anneka Rice
Michaela Strachan
Gaby Roslin
Johnny Vaughn
Shaun Ryder (can you imagine?!)
And no chefs! They are always just rubbish and like just getting a nobody to do it, no performance quality at all!
