Checking in. We had friends over last night who were talking all the way through. How rude! Grin

TheSassyAssassin · 12/11/2017 09:41

My friend did similar last night iklboo...there will be a Strictly silence descending for tonight's proceedings!!! Glitterball

CaveMum · 12/11/2017 09:42

No problem, happy to explain what I actually meant!

I don't think you can understand quite how "intimate" you are with a dance partner until you've taken lessons. People think Latin dances are the "sexy" ones because of all the hip action, but it's only when you dance it yourself that you realise Ballroom dances are danced pressed up against your partner! The lady's dress hides the amount of contact you have, particularly in the thigh area - the lady only steps back because the man's body and then his leg move forwards and essentially moves her out of the way!

bonfireheart · 12/11/2017 09:44

I think the whole optician thing was to carry on the running joke of how Giovanni says DEBBEH!

Did well: Davood, Susan
Ok, but could be better: Alex, Gemma, Jo, Mollie
Time to go: Ruth, Johnnie

awaynboilyurheid · 12/11/2017 09:45

ha ha I once told my sister off for talking when she jined us one week to watch it The rule is we talk through the vt's !
i actually liked all the vt's this week no silly we have to go to a field/cafe/club/moon to help with the footwork! I loved seeing hw a rumba should be danced and loved Joe's rumba he danced it so well
Debbie was amazing but at times its too frenetic however that lift was the best I've seen, she is fearless.
Ruth really can't take criticism the minute Anton is quiet and the judges criticise her you can see her face change to me she is doing the same clinging on to Anton dance every week.
I feel sorry for Molly she seems like a really lovely girl and they had put in 12 hour days she was step perfect but it needed to be fierce and that's really beyond molly she's as fierce as a rice pudding bless her.She needs to watch Alexandra for tips I loved seeing Vincent but where was Flavia ???? the show misses them.

bonfireheart · 12/11/2017 09:48

Oti was unlucky with her first dancer - the sulky boxer who had hurt his shoulder.
Then her and Danny produced some of the best dances on the show but lost out to a man who won beacuse he cried the most.
I thought this might be her year to win as everyone would be rooting for a Paralympian, but alas it seems Johnnie isn't turning up on time for his training or putting much effort it. He's doing just enough to not be seen as a joke but will get him eliminated. He will only survive if he is up against Ruth.

OublietteBravo · 12/11/2017 09:57

I think it is a shame that Jonnie is our only sportsperson contestant this year. It's a bit too actor heavy as line ups go.

dementedma · 12/11/2017 10:00

Jonnie is irritating and not putting in the effort the others are. Hope he goes.

BalloonSlayer · 12/11/2017 10:10

Can I ask - how much do the celebrities get paid?

Do they get paid more the longer they stay in?

awaynboilyurheid · 12/11/2017 10:14

bonfireheart ha ha lost out to a man who won because he cried! totally agree!!! Oti and Danny should have won that year, she is the best female dancer on Strictly. I liked Johny to begin with but he does tend to do the same dance every week , with only Oti changing her routine. How much that is to do with his prosthetic or how much is his supposed lack of hours in training/not a natural dancer is difficult to judge.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 12/11/2017 10:24

Then her and Danny produced some of the best dances on the show but lost out to a man who won beacuse he cried the most.

Absolutely. Danny and Oti produced some outstanding dancing - and lost out because he was regarded as a ringer and Ore had a jouuuuuuuurrrrrrrnnnnnnnneeeeeeeeeeeey. And oh my God, didn't we all know it? By the end DH and I thought of him as Ore Canyoubelievehehasneverdancedbeforeinhislifeoduba, it was reiterated SO often by Ore, Jo, the judges, Claud, Tess...

Doesn't help, I suppose, that I really don't like Joanne's choreography.

I do think it was so telling that Oti called Jonnie "Danny" in one training clip - she is clearly looking back to the good old days last year!

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 12/11/2017 10:27

Can I ask - how much do the celebrities get paid?

"According to Telly Mix, unlike other shows such as I’m A Celebrity.. Get Me Out Of Here or Celebrity Big Brother, all the stars of the dancing show are paid the same amount.
However, they make more depending on how far they go in the competition.
According to The Sun, celebs are paid £25,000 to appear on the show, however, that then goes up to £40,000 if they reach October.
If celebrities reach the quarter finals, they earn £60,000 and £75,000 if they get to the semi-finals.
The winner walks away with a huge £100,000."

Slartybartfast · 12/11/2017 10:31

I would like to know how much truth there is when they say they have had the Best Time of their Lives?

dalek · 12/11/2017 11:02

Judges marking becoming a joke. The same dance getting a 5 from one judge and 8s from others!

And Darcy and Craig really thought that the calibre of Debbie's salsa was at the same level as the calibre of Alexandra's AG??? Honestly the amount of favouritism shown to the McGee woman is embarrassing to watch

dalek · 12/11/2017 11:04

Also agree with others that Danny was the best dancer last year - if I have a few spare minute I rematch their dances - their VW is gorgeous, as is everything else they did. Danny always made it look effortless and that he was really enjoying it.

dalek · 12/11/2017 11:04

I rewatch, not rematch

RhiannonOHara · 12/11/2017 11:30

Underwhelming night, IMO. The atmosphere was off. Thought it particularly tense when Anton and Ruth were at the judges.

Joe was overmarked again. He wasn't that good. Mollie was rubbish but partly that's because AJ makes her look like she's dancing with her little nephew at a wedding.

Susan was OK, terrible music though. Davood was good; probably my favourite of the night. Jonnie has stopped trying or reached his limit, one or the other. Also he's young, fit, good-looking, so how do they manage EVERY WEEK to make him look like an overweight middle-aged trucker playing darts in the pub?

Ruth was poor but I like her and her obvious friendship with Anton, even though the latter needs to shut up.
Alexandra's AT was too frantic, not enough smouldering. Vincent (in the audience) is looking good.
Gemma was OK but needs to look at her partner and engage more.

Debbie's marks and comments were an outrage. I'm utterly sick of the judges' blatant fawning and favouritism. She wobbled through her turns and didn't seem to know which way she should be facing. She stood still for about five minutes before that lift waiting to be put into it. She had ZERO hip action. Anyone else has been/would have been slated for all of those things (Craig last week grudgingly admitted Gemma's salsa had good side-to-side hip action, but put the boot in about there being no figure-eight rotation.) Are they being paid to make sure she's in the final?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 12/11/2017 11:52

Who's on for a Dancing On Ice Thread in the New Year?

MEEEEEEEEEEE!

I've never watched it before, but I'm very broad-minded and will try anything once!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 12/11/2017 11:54

We had friends over last night who were talking all the way through. How rude!

I would have popped a tea-towel over their heads, like with budgies.

If that failed I would have pushed their coats into their hands and bundled them out of the house!

Some people have no sense of occasion.

TheSassyAssassin · 12/11/2017 12:05

Schaden are you in for a treat! It's hilarious but sometimes you need a cushion...both for toe-curling embarrassment and sometimes for the bone crunching falls! Shock

TheSassyAssassin · 12/11/2017 12:06

disahsterdahling · 12/11/2017 12:29

I'm rather astonished s that Perry Shakes Drayton is doing Dancing on Ice. She's been selected for the Commonwealth Games team. If I was at England Athletics I'd make her choose one or the other. There's a pretty high chance of some sort of injury doing ice-skating, I'd have thought. Why on earth would you risk your place at the Commonwealth Games especially when there has been controversy about people who got the qualifying times not being selected.

IhaveChillyToes · 12/11/2017 12:51

I think Jonnie will have an especially hard time next week with the bouncy floor in Blackpool

I think his legs will be very hard to bounce in time with each other iyswim

dolfinne · 12/11/2017 12:53

arent the commenwealth games early next year, in April ? If she gets far in the competition wont she still be skating in March ? what about training and holding camps ?

SoupDragon · 12/11/2017 13:40

I thought Jonnie was amazing in the first couple of weeks and he was my pick for the winner because I thugth he'd get a lot of public support. The paso to Indiana Jones seemed to mark the point at which he started to get worse for me though.
