I know it's early- but I've got a football packed morning with dd1. If it's not postponed. And I saw the song choices last night- so have been itching to share them. My bingo card has some crosses on it Grin.

Overs
Kevin Davy White
Fastlove Pt 1

Matt Linnen
Careless Whisper

Boys
Sam Black
I'm Your Man

Lloyd Macey
A Different Corner

Groups
The CutKelvins
Killer / Papa Was A Rollin' Stone

Jack & Joel
The Edge Of Heaven

Rak-Su
Faith

Sean & Conor
Freedom '90

Girls

Grace Davies
I Can't Make You Love Me

Holly Tandy
One More Try

Rai-Elle Williams
They Won't Go When I Go

Alisah Bonaobra
Praying For Time

I don't mind 'Edge of Heaven' too much for J and J- it could have been much worse.
Am very surprised at the choice for the Cutkelvins. At the beginning of the series, I thought they were one of the favourites, but Simon doesn't seem to be giving them much, and they are increasingly becoming the sister , with backing.

And BINGO! 'I can't make you love me' I can't stand that song- and it's Grace singing it- which means they really want her to win. it's such a favourite on these shows.

I think Rat Soup doing 'Faith' rather than Sam , means Sam is going home.

And hopefully, the title of Sobby's song is an omen Grin

There are rumours that the quadruple elimination won't happen now. Which is good in a way, as it would probably have left us with Grace and Rat Soup for the next 4 weeks .

So- I'm off to check if dd1's football has been postponed, and then i need to sort out snacks for later. Grin

Music it's this Thursday, it all starts at 4.00. I have literally no idea what time the actual light switch on is though. I have an itinerary somewhere.

dillite · 11/11/2017 21:54

raahh I have a feeling that there will be no x-factor after this year

MusicToMyEars800 · 11/11/2017 21:55

Noisy Whaatt!! I'm sure the switch on used to be end of November I do have a shit memory though Grin
I am going to check it out on the website, I do love the xmas lights in Reading, they always look great.

nancy75 · 11/11/2017 21:55

I read that Simon has come up with a new TV show that we are going to love, I’m not holding my breath

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 11/11/2017 21:55

It definitely has run its course though thought that a few series back. Winner just dissappear these days

This whole shake up hasn't really done anything for it. The prize thing seems daft

Wonder who else would've gone tonight if Simon and Co hasn't changed their minds

Raahh · 11/11/2017 21:55

dillite I think it every year. But it always comes back. Grin

After his health scare, I do wonder if Simon will miss next year though (if it comes back).

nancy he wants to do a dancing show, was the last thing I read. Which would be odd. What does he know about dancing?

Mind you, I'm starting to wonder what he knows about music...

OP posts:
MusicToMyEars800 · 11/11/2017 22:00

Raahh It wouldn't surprise me, I will be very surprised if it goes again next year.

Maybe he will try his hand at a dancing show..

nancy75 · 11/11/2017 22:01

He doesn’t know anything about music, his musical taste hasn’t moved on from bad 80s pop

Cary2012 · 11/11/2017 22:10

I have an idea for a new format: Scrap the show.

Little Ant and Dec should have gone for having the sheer audacity to attempt Freedom.

It was awful. Kevin was ok, but the rest were bloody dire.

And Louis tells fibs, saying George always sang the Seal/Papa was a Rolling Stone cover. He didn't. I saw him live many times and he didn't, so shut up Louis.

I shall have nightmares now...

If any one attempts You have Been Loved or Jesus to a Child tomorrow I will cry. If they attempt A Different Corner then I'll throw my cat at the tv.

I quite liked Harry Styles, so apologies for that. And I like the Xmas ad where the carrot pees (peas) himself. And I like the Just Eat chefs...worryingly, they sound better than the contestants.

Raahh · 11/11/2017 22:11

Sam Lavery! is turning on the lights at our local shopping centre .

Remember her? From last year? Grin

We also get Boyzlife- who I think are Brian McFadden and Keith Duffy from BoyzoneGrin.

I can top the lot of you, Bucks Fizz are turning on our Christmas lightsGrinGrin you don’t get more relevant & up to date than Bucks Fizz

MusicToMyEars800 · 11/11/2017 22:17

We had Sean and Maria from Corrie turn on out lights one year and I think it was towie stars last year.. I should know this goes to google

nancy75 · 11/11/2017 22:18

Nope, still not as bad as Bucks Fizz!

MusicToMyEars800 · 11/11/2017 22:19

Oh we had Danny Mac and Carly Stenson and Ray Quinn one year.
I am still looking and past 'celebs'

MusicToMyEars800 · 11/11/2017 22:20

Danny and Carly are actors from Hollyoaks btw.

Raahh · 11/11/2017 22:24

ooh, but nancy which version of Bucks Fizz? Is it The Bucks Fizz or The FIzz? (they are a fighty bunch, the former BF members).

I had a friend, who when we were 12, in 1984, fancied Bobby Gee. Nobody fancied Bobby Gee. Nobody.

OP posts:
nancy75 · 11/11/2017 22:31

Now touring under the name The Fizz, Cheryl Baker, Mike Nolan and Jay Aston will be joined by band mate Bobby McVay to turn on the lights on November 19

Who knew Bucks Fizz was a brand worth fighting over! It seems we have the substandard Fizz not even BUCKS Fizz!!

MusicToMyEars800 · 11/11/2017 22:34

So here's a list of people who have switched on the Reading Xmas lighs over the years.

Liza Goddard and Lionel Blair, 1990
Christopher Biggins and Barry Chuckle in 1991 (my birth year)
We have also had Ryan Thomas and Catherine Tyldesley. (from corrie)
Michelle Keegan and Chris fountain (corrie and Hollyoaks)

Jennifer Metcalfe and Ayden Callaghan (Mercede's and Joe from Hollyoaks)
Steve McFadden (Phil from EastEnders)
Samia Ghadi and Sean Tully ( Maria and Sean from Corrie)

Raahh · 11/11/2017 22:43

Nancy it's a minefield.

And don't even get started on The Bay City Rollers Grin

OP posts:
nancy75 · 11/11/2017 22:49

Oh god, we’re not good enough to have the bay city rollers turn on our lights, not even under an assumed name Grin

Raahh · 11/11/2017 22:53
Grin

My sister got very excited when she saw (whichever version of them she saw) when she was in Fleetwood last year. She sent me a video. When we little, I was a big Bay City Rollers Fan. She liked The Wombles. We still have the albums. Sadly, nothing to play them on Grin

JaneJeffer · 11/11/2017 22:55

Finally caught up. I enjoyed fast forwarding all the shite talk Grin

Rat Soup were awful - the Price brother were better than them. Hated Kevin - amazed he won Confused Surprised myself by liking Matt even though it didn't sound like Careless Whisper at all and I find him a bit sleazy looking. I didn't know he was a dad until now. I liked the Cut Kelvins even though just a cover.

Just proved how amazing George was and no one can do his songs justice.

Rat Soup should have gone not J&J Sad

HouseOfMouse · 12/11/2017 03:54

I think I'm done with this - I found tonight's show really depressing. Making everyone do George Michael songs just highlighted how far short they all fall from the real thing. We all know there is no stardom at the end if this show, at best there is a weak Xmas single and a poorly received album. Then there is Harry Styles doing a very poor imitation of a "rock star". Dreadful. I assume this is how Simon wants him marketed (I also assume Simon has had creative control?). He probably thinks that is what a rock star does. Plus, why does Simon keep calling acts "relevant"? I'm not sure he or any of the other superannuated judges would recognise "relevant" if their lives depended on it (see also Harry Styles, above). No more for me.
