No I had no idea Stacey was 'wealthy' and wouldn't judge someone on that anyway. It was her snobbery! She seemed to think she was better than the others in several ways, better even than the judges and presenters, the self deprecation was painfully false, she never helped anyone if they were stuck nor was helped by others when she was stuck (which negates the editing argument in my mind - nobody helped her with that oven door), she was smug, pleased with others failures and seemed to think she was owed a place in the final despite some spectacular mistakes! Couldn't stand her!

bookbook · 01/11/2017 11:04

I did manage to watch it live last night. I thought Sophie deserved to win
Thanks for everyone on the thread -its been lovely reading all through the posts :)

Tiddlywinks63 · 01/11/2017 11:45

Stacey irritated the hell out of me too, seemingly superior to everyone and no empathy with others.
I'm glad Sophie won, I was rooting for her from the start.
I was fully prepared not to like the new presenters but I think they've done a great job!

Fontella · 01/11/2017 12:02

I completely lost interest after Liam went.

I just couldn't get my head around how the young Liverpool girl stayed over him. I know it's supposed to be about how they do on the day - not previous weeks, but to me he still came out better.

So I was left with four semi-finalists, two of whom I didn't think deserved to be there and of the other two, I wasn't overly keen on one - pathetic I know, but I just couldn't take to him (clue in the gender haha!). At that point I lost interest and stopped watching.

Pleased he didn't win though - but other than that, Bake Off fizzled out for me a couple of weeks ago.

Scabbersley · 01/11/2017 12:23

I thought the actual bakes in the final were boring. It was quite interesting watching Stephen lose it and crack under pressure. Sophie was a well deserved winner. God knows what Kate was doing there!

ppeatfruit · 01/11/2017 12:48

I didn't Scabbersley The bread was good esp. without 'normal' flour, though as usual they didn't have quite enough time

I like the fact that they do run of the mill things like ginger biscuits , it means we can all do them! Apart for decs. Grin

Those entremets were far from boring !! Bloody 'ell they took a great amount of skill. Sophie's honey was out of this world , I would've loved a bite!

ppeatfruit · 01/11/2017 12:58

Sorry about the typos!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 01/11/2017 13:24

I liked Stacey from the word go - because she reminded me of a friend of mine.

I wonder if they will address Prue's gaffe on GBBO - Another Slice? It does sound as if it was an honest mistake, miscalculating time zones, and I wouldn't have wanted to see her sacked over it - I think she's fitted into the show really well - though I do miss the relationship between Paul and Mary - it always seemed as if they had become good friends in real life - but it is early days, and there is plenty of time for Prue and Paul to build that sort of relationship too.

I've said it before, but I was not at ALL sure about Noel Fielding, but I was wrong - I admire the way he has been funny and engaging but without trying to be the centre of attention - both he and Sandy were very good at keeping the bakers as the centre of the show (I think Mel and Sue did that very well too - and I do still miss Sue).

jay55 · 01/11/2017 13:49

I think Mel and Noel would be a great pair for the show.
I did like how good he was at breaking tension. Though I didn’t feel either he or sandy were as interested in the food.

WhatInTheWorldIsGoingOn · 01/11/2017 14:00

I must say I actually preferred channel 4’s version. Perhaps just because I needed a change after the same old same old. Also I recorded it and started watching at 8.30 so I had no adverts.

Scabbersley · 01/11/2017 14:23

Yes i prefer it on C4

I love noel fielding

SchadenfreudePersonified · 01/11/2017 15:43

I prefer the C4 version, too.

Creambun2 · 01/11/2017 17:25

Sophie is so bland. Probably we will never here from her again. Liam and Steven we probably will.

MichelGarnier · 01/11/2017 17:28

I quite like that though Cream. It seems going on Bake Off is as much a personal challenge for some of the bakers as a professional one. They aren't all looking for overnight fame a la X Factor, or even necessarily to change their lives all that much. Just entering into a baking competition (that millions now watch).

bonfireheart · 01/11/2017 17:32

I thought it was so sweet when Sophie was doing that yoga pose and fell over - for someone training to be a stunt woman.
Yes you should want to win Bake Off for your baking, not as the doorway to fame and fortune.
There's only so many bakers the tv needs!

Creambun2 · 01/11/2017 17:41

It is awful how the Daily Mail are putting out this benefits stuff about Sophie, it is her business to sort or whatever, guarantee they wouldn't have done this to a winning bloke.

Creambun2 · 01/11/2017 17:42

I think Steven DOES have his eye on tv work/fame.

Creambun2 · 01/11/2017 17:44

And I hope Liam is careful/selective with any offers. Seems like a nice lad and tv execs will know he is "marketable"

FoofFighter · 01/11/2017 17:55

Noel and Kate seemed very close... any gossip there?

yawning801 · 01/11/2017 18:04

Stacey is a friend of one of my friends, so I kind of like her I suppose... but she seemed quite self-absorbed to me. I also found it funny when they did the "Since Bake Off..." thing. Liam was writing a book or something, Flo was doing karaoke with Yan and Julia and there was Stacey... who still likes pink.

OP posts:
Creambun2 · 01/11/2017 18:09

Yeah likes pink and enjoying her mansion in rural hertfordshire.

bonfireheart · 01/11/2017 18:17

Don't think Noel and Kate looked anymore close than anyone else. Am pretty sure Noel has a long term girlfriend, Kate i assume is a lot younger than him. The kiss on the head he gave her was very paternal/brotherly.

Ceto · 01/11/2017 20:43

I still find the endless, too frequent advert breaks seriously annoying.

Tanaqui · 01/11/2017 21:01

I grew to really like Stacey after the first few weeks- you could see her feelings in her face! Tan was lovely but they overdid the "science" gimmick. Sophie was my pick to win from the beginning, but Kate's entreme was great- especially as she was more flavour over style in her natural talents (unlike Steven who was clearly super artistic but I think sometimes sacrificed taste for style!).

hazeyjane · 01/11/2017 21:38

I surprised myself by preferring the new line up and loving all 3 contestants in the final, so not really minding which one won!
