Sophie was not all emotional, no flapping hands by her face saying "OMg! OmG!"

Old fashioned manners, nice for a change!

YesThisIsMe · 31/10/2017 21:45

Steven was robbed by the fact that he cocked up his final showstopper and the other two nailed theirs. I’d have been disappointed if Kate had won on the strength of a single great bake at the finish because she’s not had the consistency over the series, but either of the other two would be fine. I did feel a bit sorry for her in the final weekend though, with the other two bezzie mate BFFs and her as the gooseberry.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 31/10/2017 21:47

She deserved to win. Steven had flashes of brilliance, as did Kate, but Sophie was more consistent.

JustDanceAddict · 31/10/2017 21:56

THE right person won! Not as good as previous years - all the ‘characters’ went out early.

Crispbutty · 31/10/2017 22:13

Haha I'm not working at the moment (unless anyone in devon is on the lookout for an amazing chef😁😁) so I might just do it next week when I've got all my equipment sorted out! 😂

Crispbutty · 31/10/2017 22:21

So next week I will make my show stoppers..

Devonshire AppleCake

How about someone suggest the other two categories for me. ?

Anyone else want to join in too? Could be a laugh 😁

Graphista · 31/10/2017 22:23

Elfride are you sure he's straight? Hmm

Stacey's caption - perhaps they were sticking to 'if you can't say anything nice say nothing' so they stuck to 'she likes pink' Grin

So glad Sophie won I liked her best out the three but wish Liam or Yan or both had been in the final.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 31/10/2017 23:09

The height of my culinary prowess is the wonder known as the sossidge sammich, Butty, but I would be delighted to admire other people's creations.

Crispbutty · 31/10/2017 23:22

Theres nothing wrong with a good old classic! I think I may need to up my game though!

Hoooorraaay Grin Grin I reckoned she'd win from the start, she's always been unshowy, quietly a gifted baker. So sweet too when she relaxed at the end wished the other 2 'good luck' when they were holding hands in the garden.

Steven got her sussed.

I loved that they used spelt flour, I never use normal flour in my bread , it always tastes nicer than the usual!

bonfireheart · 01/11/2017 08:24

I think what was also nice was the lack of innuendo that you could see a mile off. You know yesterday Mel&Sue would have made repeated jokes about Stephen's "shiny balls". Instead Noel & Sandy were kind, respectful with just enough cheekiness. Glad they're keeping all four for the next series.
And as much as "personalities" are great it's a baking show n I don't want it turning into a reality show.

ppeatfruit · 01/11/2017 08:27

True bonfire Noel and Sandi seemed more natural than Mel&Sue somehow, whether their scripts were written by them I don't know.

ppeatfruit · 01/11/2017 08:29

Those short "funny" scenes were silly though. Their hearts didn't seem to be in them.

ppeatfruit · 01/11/2017 08:30

Candice in R2 atm and saying they all watch the final together. I like that!

southeastdweller · 01/11/2017 08:35

‘Keeping all four’? So it’s been confirmed that Prue’s staying?

disahsterdahling · 01/11/2017 08:54

So it’s been confirmed that Prue’s staying

It's astonishing isn't it? if I messed up like that on social media I'd be very lucky not to be sacked for gross misconduct. But everyone will go "oh silly old Prue" and she'll probably get a pay rise next year. How the other half live and all that.

I think Sophie was the right choice, I was a bit worried yesterday when I saw people were annoyed by the result. I thought Kate had won. She did very well with her showstopper yesterday but she's been consistently weak on the technical where she could't practice, so I think it would have been unfair for her to win.

As for Stacey, I suppose they didn't want to say "has gone back to her luxury Hertfordshire manor to live the life of a rich woman". Did people know who she was beforehand? I just wondered why everyone had such a hate for her and wondered if it was just old-fashioned jealousy.

jay55 · 01/11/2017 09:01

I watched this morning and luckily avoided twitter.
Kate did a very un Kate like showstopper. I think if she’d done her usual historic route she could have clinched it from Sophie which would have felt all kinds of wrong.
The three seemed to get along really well and that made for a nice final to watch.

ThreeMenInAGoat · 01/11/2017 09:06

@crispbutty please can I have your gingerbread recipe - mine never come out right.

I think Sophie was the justified winner. I just wish we knew a teeny bit more about each contestant like we used to in previous GBBO series. No bloomin’ tearful back stories ‘I’m dedicating this to my dead nan’ X factor type nonsense but just a little more info.

Absolutely love the new presenters and am an absolute Sandy convert (having been not keen for years). Already loved Noel and so pleased they are confirmed for new series.

Prue’s gaf was monumentally embarrassing for her but luckily a friend warned me so I kept off social media for the day. It wasn’t hard to not find out.

mydogisthebest · 01/11/2017 09:19

I think Sophie deserved to win but would have preferred Stephen to. She is nice enough but just so unemotional and, well, bland.

So glad Kate didn't win. I don't really think she should have been in the final. She had some pretty bad weeks. I would have preferred to see Yan or, better still, Liam in the final.

I wouldn't be surprised if Liam, if he wants them, will get the most offers and opportunities.

ppeatfruit · 01/11/2017 10:22

disahsterdhling IMO a lot of the unpleasantness on SM comes from exactly what you said! If you remember how they went on about poor Ruby, who was fine but too beautiful (IMO) !!!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 01/11/2017 10:24

@crispbutty please can I have your gingerbread recipe - mine never come out right.

Me an' all Butty.

And your fruity cakes look fab

Crispbutty · 01/11/2017 10:26

I'm having a sort out today so when I find my recipe folder I will post it :)

SchadenfreudePersonified · 01/11/2017 10:26

I'm glad Prue's staying - I like her much more than Mary. She, Noel and Sandi have made Paul tolerable for me.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 01/11/2017 10:26

Butty

XXXXXXXXXX

SchadenfreudePersonified · 01/11/2017 10:28

I wasn't resentful of Stacey's huge wealth (didn't even know about it) - I didn't like her sly smiles when anyone else cocked something up.
