Oh forgot, most recently Oksana only did one series. So did she jump or was she pushed? Amy was asked but declined to join Oksana's series so maybe she was filling for a year before Amy became available.
Still does not explain why Chloe is not a pro Angry I wouldn't blame her if she chucks marbles on the staircase Showgirls style Grin

CurbsideProphet · 06/11/2017 08:52

I'm not sure why so many people are surprised by the results this weekend. Every year there is some sort of controversy - John Sergeant/Ann Widdecombe anyone? Grin
Aston was too poppy/jerky and did not manage the smooth flow of the VW when he was in hold. Although Mollie did her best dance she has previously been marked quite harshly by the judges, compared to the likes of Johnny and Susan, so I was actually surprised that she went through.

Slartybartfast · 06/11/2017 08:57

I think Shirley let the Head Judge comment go to her head! and voted for Ashton to leave to be contrary, either that or she meant to vote for them to stay!
Ridiculous.
or he needs to go for personal reasons anyway

LittleWitch · 06/11/2017 09:11

I like that Shirley talks technical (not that it means anything to me) but I think she comes across as very very nervous. All that with getting her cue wrong when she thought she was on and it should have been Bruno, Tess correcting her, Shirley blundering on while tapping her card, Tess coming back to confirm it should have been Bruno - STOP. IT.

I wouldn’t be surprised if she doesn’t come back next year. She’s out of her depth. It’s as if she’s uncomfortable with being on tv, which is strange given that she’s judged DWTS ( is that right)? Karen Hardy should be on the panel IMO. She’s got the knowledge, won the show and has loads of personality.

CeeBeeBee · 06/11/2017 09:29

I wonder about Oksana too, Hangrybas I liked her. She is married to Jonathan Playero who also does dancing TV shows, so I wonder whether it's to do with not wanting to be far apart from him as they are now in the same series.

CeeBeeBee · 06/11/2017 09:29

Platero

RhiannonOHara · 06/11/2017 09:33

TBH, without re-working the choreography, there was nothing much Aston could do to change his dance.

As others have said, he had too much rise and fall so he could have worked on that.

But I think the judges shoot themselves in the foot when they criticise the choreography; obviously that's not up to the sleb, so when it comes to the dance-off they have to try to find 'reasons' for who they save that are about the dancing rather than about the choreography/theme.

Having said that, Mollie danced very well indeed in the dance-off and was the right choice IMO. And I'm no fan of her or AJ.

I do like Shirley but I agree with this: Karen Hardy should be on the panel IMO. She’s got the knowledge, won the show and has loads of personality. I've said for years that Karen would be the natural choice for head judge.

charliebear78 · 06/11/2017 10:01

I would have rather Mollie gone, though her time is up.
Astons dance was not great but it is a shame he has now left the competition when there are a good few others still in that cannot dance as well!
I like Kevin but I am not feeling the Susan love that is so often posted on here-though I do hear what you are all saying!
Johnny also needs to go soon(unless he can produce some good dances in the next week.)
Debbie to win-though this is one of the first Years I do not really have a fave from the get go, so it would not bother me who wins at this point.
I cannot warm to AB either but cannot deny she can dance! I do not think she will win(MN won't allow it lol)
That SYTYCD video with Pasha-I remember him in that! he looked so good! (not so much now)

Clawdy · 06/11/2017 10:02

I've had enough of Shirley now, will be more than happy to see her go. It just hasn't worked.

AlaskanSnow · 06/11/2017 10:20

I used to obsess over SYTYCD, and fell in love with Pasha then. Artem too.
DH and I have a partnership swop deal where he gets Rachel Riley and I get Pasha. Wink

I think the DO voting was right as per the rules, BUT Aston is overall the better dancer and will be missed.
His ballroom is a crap as Mollie's latin, so if they'd both had a latin number the outcome would have been reversed. I thought he might be in danger though given his position at the bottom of the board.
I felt for them both - JLS and the Saturdays are close aren't they.

SoupDragon · 06/11/2017 10:25

SYTYCD??

scrabbler3 · 06/11/2017 10:27

Sorry - I meant that Joanne was the only English one, not Karen. Got my Cliftons mixed up!

HouseworkIsASin10 · 06/11/2017 10:31

Aston is a better dancer and would have gone a lot further in the competition than Mollie, but based on that one dance Shirley made the right decision.

It was a cop out by Darcey and Bruno, trying to find a reason to keep Aston in when they had all slated the original dance.

Mollie improved her performance in the dance off.

Because of crap choreography Aston had no chance of improving.

It's a shame but totally the right decision based on the dance off.

YellowPrimula · 06/11/2017 10:32

Agree about Karen Hardy I think she would be great . I don't mind Shirley but think she has boxed herself in on occasions. She is also just not very watchable.

I really thought Mollie would go however based on the sane off alone she was a lot better technically., plus of course there was the choreography issue.Ruth is awful though, really reached rock bottom this week.

disahsterdahling · 06/11/2017 10:45

I thought Mollie was undermarked this week - the judges went on about her error while ignoring the fact that AB slipped near the beginning of her routine. (And last year Craig kept going on about Judge Rinder's facial expressions but said nothing about AB's having her mouth open all the time). Mollie was better in the dance-off and it is, in theory at least, supposed to all be on the dance-off, which Tess reminded the judges when they had to make their decision. I think Shirley and Craig followed the rules, the others were desperately trying to keep Aston in, which I can understand but them's the rules.

Anyway, I find Janette annoying so in one way I'm glad Aston has gone but I think she let him down with the choreo and he should have done much further. So did the producer with their silly theming. If he'd had a straight-forward VW it would have been lovely.

I think Jonnie will do better next week with a ballroom dance. After that, it may be time for him to go.

HouseworkIsASin10 · 06/11/2017 10:47

I thought Jonnie was shite this week, it was just Oti twizzing round him flicking her hair. He just stood there.

Theromanempire · 06/11/2017 10:54

Just disappeared down a rabbit hole of watching Danny's dances from last year...my God, he was a good dancer! The Misty Blue one is probably one of my fave dances ever!!

CeeBeeBee · 06/11/2017 12:03

I felt for them both - JLS and the Saturdays are close aren't they.

Yes, I believe one of The Saturdays is married to someone from JLS.

When the red light went on Aston and Janette, Mollie mouthed "What?"

mydogisthebest · 06/11/2017 12:03

The rage on the facebook Strictly page is hilarious. Apparently Shirley booted Aston out to make sure he doesn't win as she wants Debbie to win!

Do people not realise that with so little public support he didn't stand a hope in hell of winning. He couldn't even get enough votes to keep him out of the dance off.

If someone I wanted to stay in was 2nd from bottom I would be voting for them. Ruth was bottom and she got enough votes to stay out of the dance off. Gemma was lower than Mollie and got enough votes to stay out of it.

Aston obviously was not popular at all.

I actually said from the beginning that I didn't think Aston or Alexandra were popular with the public but, of course, when they are high on the leader board it is virtually impossible to know whether that is true or not.

I bet if Alexandra were low down she too would end up in the do.

disahsterdahling · 06/11/2017 12:10

Yes I think so too. So the judges will overmark her to try to make sure it doesn't happen. Though as you get closer to the end of the competition it gets risky wherever you are on the leaderboard.

IhaveChillyToes · 06/11/2017 12:13

I think the reason ASTON went home was cos not enough people at home voted for him

He was 2nd from bottom so the people at home knew they had to vote for him

It wasn't like he was in the middle and so he would be saved by judges points alone

RUTH was below him but got more public votes and wasn't in bottom 2

tactum · 06/11/2017 12:30

A certain shite tabloid headline today that I passed this morning indicates that Shirley is Chloe and AJ's dancing mentor and they refer to her as their 'Dance Mom' - impartial head judge???? Hmm

AmericanPastoral · 06/11/2017 12:30

But didn't Tess say that Ore was in the bottom two and went on to win? Sometimes being in the bottom two once shocks your supporters out of their complacency and ensures more votes in the future. Unfortunately for Mollie that didn't happen so she looks like a goner.

MrsJayy · 06/11/2017 12:34

Craig employed Alexandra Burke I think the dance world is very small so if Aj &Chloe had lessons from shirley they probably paid a fortune for it I imagine Shirley knows a few of the dancers.

MrsJayy · 06/11/2017 12:37

AJs parents own a dance school apparently didn't know that.
