We are approaching the end point. Maisie has turned things around - well done girl.

CJ is lost.

Georgie is hearbroken and the geese fly home to roost.

I am ending here.....

Ilovelblue · 12/11/2017 21:53

Oh, I feel such a sense of loss myself! I remember just how I felt that night - I woke up two or three times feeling so out of sorts with myself.

I wonder what the next episodes will bring?

Ilovelblue · 12/11/2017 21:55

Yes, I had wondered about Elvis' funeral myself. You would imagine it would be full military honours but I'm not sure if the SAS go under the radar? I don't think it's the sort of thing you hear about on the news, ie, if it's an SAS guy who is repatriated back to the UK.

Rhubarb01 · 12/11/2017 21:57

I kept it rolling and I haven't cried! I just want to tell Ma Lane that the sweets are called Chocolate Limes and not the reverse. AT least Tara/Thara/Farah is happy.

Rhubarb01 · 12/11/2017 21:59

Yes, it might be a bit of a quiet affair ilove but Georgie was going to marry him, she knew his family, don't you think in the real world she would have attended.

Ilovelblue · 12/11/2017 22:01

I used to love chocolate limes - pick 'n' mix from Woolworths! I do think those scenes with Grace Lane are completely superfluous. Is it the same coffee shop they were in when CJ rang Georgie, I wonder?

OP posts:
Ilovelblue · 12/11/2017 22:04

You would certainly think so Rhu. I wonder what normally happens when a member of the SAS is killed overseas?

If you remember in the prequel for series 2, Georgie met his family when they flew in a private plane to his family home. It only really showed his father. When they were supposed to be getting married, there was no sign of his side of the family at all.

Argh. I was fighting my Firefox browser all the time. It took 20 sec to reload a page or send a message, I was always falling behind trying to read or comment. I'll have to rewatch without the need to comment - so distracting ...

Re: Burial. I think the SAS have a regimental gravesite in Hereford somewhere where the men who died in the line of duty can be interred (if the family does not decide otherwise).
Quick google finds this:
www.bbc.co.uk/herefordandworcester/content/articles/2008/12/04/graves_sas_hereford_st_martins_feature.shtml
and
www.herefordtimes.com/news/5689309.Plans_for_SAS_cemetery_site/

Ilovelblue · 12/11/2017 22:12

Thanks Delphin. Hereford is where the SAS is based. My query really was that when a soldier is killed in action, it is normally on our news and you see the coffin being taken off the aircraft (at Brize Norton or RAF Lyneham?) and then driven through Royal Wootton Bassett. I've never heard the newsreader say said person was a member of the SAS. Maybe I've just never taken enough notice.

Rhubarb01 · 12/11/2017 22:49

Bad luck about the delays Delphin. I don't always see all the comments at the time but I've just been back to have a read through.

I'm watching Howards End at themoment and I've had to turn on the subtitles - a bit muffled again. I read the book and liked the film twenty odd years ago.

Delphin · 12/11/2017 22:53

If it was actually a clandestine mission in a theatre of war, I would think that they wouldn't publicise the loss of a soldier (and basically announce "we were there!" ). Like the SF that were sent into Iraq and Afghanistan days to weeks before the actual fighting started.

Delphin · 12/11/2017 22:58

LOL. I just listened to the credits to the very end. When the TV presenter said in voice-over "Ooooh noooo, Eeelvis ..." in a traaagic voice. I had to laugh. I am evil I know.

Ilovelblue · 12/11/2017 23:01

I am watching episode 2 again at the moment whilst doing some emails. I'd forgotten how tame it was. I'm just at the point where Milan says "I have Nescafe".

Good morning ladies
I have just been reading your comments and as I have watched a few times could follow it quite well
I don’t think we can expect CJ to be in a good place having just had a ‘friend’ betray him and also get his best friend killed. He is acting as a normal person would after all that.
It looks as if he had a good birthday by photos on instagram and it says there’s are only three weeks of filming left.

Flowerfan · 13/11/2017 08:02

‘there are’

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 13/11/2017 12:30

You lot are so brave. I just can't watch it again.
I'm happy with my little fantasy of Georgie & Elvis (minus left arm.....see my previous post) walking hand in hand into the sunset..........then camera jumps to the next scene ( 5 years into the future) when after having the twins (boy & girl), Georgie has gone back to work full time & Elvis at the moment is the sahp......we're in the kitchen & 3 yr old twins have managed to break into the undersink cupboard & throw a mixture of Ariel powder & Lenor all over the quarry tiled floor, & using it as a slip slide......whilst Elvis is on the phone.........

Ilovelblue · 13/11/2017 21:52

Evening all

Tracy I love that Elvis is still alive in your mind. I have been watching episode 3 again today so he is definitely very much alive for me too! Mind you, I watched a little of episode 3 of series 2 and Elvis' character has subtly changed I think - for the better - and not just his haircut. I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe I need to watch some more - oh, any excuse will do!

Have you seen that lovely fluffy fanfic about Georgie and Elvis - they get married as soon as they come back from Afghanistan. Somebody else who refuses to believe Elvis is dead!

As the DVD is launched today, I cast my mind back to when the DVD was launched for series 1 and BA and Smurf did a round of radio interviews to publicise it. It was the first time in about 35 years I'd listened to Radio 1 and it was Scott Mills doing the questions - he was rubbish! There were another couple which were better. One was Radio Manchester I think and the other was Radio Solent. BA seemed very shy at first and it was Smurf doing most of the talking but by the last interview, he was more chatty.

I even found it on Google!

soundcloud.com/jan-e-wallace/ben-and-iwan-on-bbc-radio-solent

I don't suppose we can have the same publicity for this series as they are still filming but there's no reason why LP couldn't be on the odd chat show!??

Season 4 Georgie finds out she’s pregnant with Elvis’s baby? To cliche? Watched the last episode on the train, pretended I had something in my eye!

Rhubarb01 · 14/11/2017 18:12

Ah, LazySusan I sympathise a great deal. If I had watched episode 4 in a public place I expect someone would have dialled 999 for me - probably unsure if I needed an ambulance or the police!

Now, whilst I think the Georgie pregnancy storyline probably won't happen as we know she is on at least two more missions and unless they happen close together it would seem unlikely she could be pregnant in both, I have to admit that it would be a neat way out of the series for MK. However, once or twice I have also thought very sadly about poor little Laura who has now lost her Daddy Sad.

Oh dear off to deal with that troubling bit of grit in my eye....

Ilovelblue · 14/11/2017 18:28

LazySusan ditto to what Rhu said. I am so glad when I watched the last episode I was on my own in front of the television. In fact, I cried more the second time I think than I did the first. I don't think I quite took it all in the first time.

There's an article I found online which is quite interesting. It's the same more or less in The Sun and Digital Spy, neither of which I would take much notice of as a rule!

www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/4909003/luke-pasqualin-his-idea-kill-off-elvis-our-girl/

There's a great one shot fanfic just been published today which deals with the aftermath of Elvis' death. It did make me cry by the end.

Hi guys. I've been reading this thread since last year and have only just joined up to comment!
Only by the end, Ilove?
Whoever wrote that fanfic certainly got it. Never quite saw why Elvis was telling Georgie he had changed, back in the medical facility, unless it was a change in tactics. He'd no reason to. He'd saved her life four times in Series 2 without her saying so much as 'Thank you', ungrateful cow!. It was him she turned to when in trouble, he who sensed what she needed / wanted - that trip to give Kicki's watch to Nafula - the comforting word. As for whether he'd have said he loved her in the truck back - it was hardly a secret, was it? The whole of 2 Section knew all about it, and Malik having been a witness to their little tiff, the ANA guys would know all about it as well.
There's a huge gap between the ambulance at the end of Series 2 and the helicopter in Syria and it's hard to believe they haven't talked things over more than is portrayed in Series 3. But it is Georgie who has to change, and we see her doing so over the last two episodes -the look of concern when she hears a SF guy has been hit, the sudden relief when she sees it's not Elvis.
Don't care if LP first had the idea of death by bomb - doesn't make it any better an ending.

kazzaD66 · 14/11/2017 19:43

That was a great ff ilove . I know they are time restricted on the tv but the ff did go into a lot of what I would liked to have seen on the show. The CJ and Molly Skype would have been perfect for showing more of how CJ was feeling and would have been a lovely nod to us S1 stalwarts waiting out for a mention of Molly (and I'm sure LT could have found a day out of her schedule to film it but it ain't gonna happen Sad

Rhubarb01 · 14/11/2017 20:08

Hi eejit welcome from the world of lurking into the bright light of OG madness!

I tend to agree that Georgie was a bit ungrateful in series 2 for Elvis's efforts. I know she was feeling very raw about him but I do think "Thanks but leave me alone" would have been more realistic. I also agree that Elvis was the one who understood her and despite ulterior motives, in as much as he didn't really want her to marry Dr Dull, he was the only one saying she wasn't fit to make a decision about getting married. Don't get us started on Ma and Pa Lane again or the pushy sister - I still reckon she was jealous.

I wonder if the next series will give us some idea of the time that has passed as otherwise I find it hard to place events or how the characters are feeling/reacting in context.

Ilovelblue · 14/11/2017 20:42

Two new posters today! Yippee!

Eejit - I do know slightly the author of that latest ff from the Miniaturists as we have messaged each other a few times. I passed on your nice comments. She said it's always rewarding when new people start reading. Did you review it? She has also written another ff which stands at around 26 chapters currently I think and is called "Something Worth Saving". I can absolutely guarantee she is a big fan of Elvis/LP too!

I'm mentally counting up the number of times Elvis saved Georgie in the last series but can only get three. What have I missed: rescued her from Abu and his mates, on the beach when there was a shooting and then at the graduation ceremony on her wedding day. I thought she was pretty ungrateful to him really and despite the hard slap across his face, I'm surprised she didn't soften towards him a little later.... he did save her life after all.

Kazza I think the reason some OG fans feel disappointed with series 2 and 3 (not me of course) is that the fanfics have done such a fantastic job of filling in the gaps which we didn't see on screen because of time pressures and they therefore find the actual episodes slightly lacking. I think many of the authors could sell their stories to the BBC or to TG for further development, I really do.

Rhu in our watchalong on Sunday, you commented on this - well, you thought it was a watch. What do we think it is? It looks like the sort of pager I had to wear at work years ago but am sure it must be something far more high tech. I wonder what happened to his "tells sunrise and sundown across all continents" from series 2?
