It's on tonight and I'd like to watch it, but apparently it's very gory. Anyone seen it? How gory exactly? I don't usually watch gory things, should I avoid it?

Its a wee bit gory when he's getting lashed, its more emotionally stirring though as its seen from Mary's eyes and there is a heart wrenching bit when she has a flash back to him being a toddler v. good film though and v. well done IMO

It is very full on, like Liesel said, particularly when he is being lashed and the soldiers use different whips to do it. Lots of lingering close ups of flayed skin.

I thought it quite a hard going film but probably closer to what went on in those days. Not so much gory as you will sit there thinking "enough!" during those scenes.

I saw it - the whipping is the only graphic part but not that bad IMO a tame 15 rather than 18. shut your eyes for the whipping.

Otherwise very good and very moving if you are a christian.

Personally, I thought it was bollocks. Violence for violence's sake and clearly made so that Mel can have a dig at the Romans and Jews.

I'm Christian, not church going but I do believe this kind of thing is important. The film made me very angry and seemed to be lots of violence along a timeline and no real look into any of the characters, especially Jesus.

Put it this way it was a good enough film that my aethiest DH watched the whole thing and then had a religious conversation with my mother afterwards

It is, I hear, best appreciated as a gay S&M film. Which would be the only reason I could think of for watching it, anyway.

I won't watch it. Hate torture. I support a charity for the victims of torture. What happened - they say - to Jesus, happens every single day to someone in some awful place on earth right now. Probably by people trained by George Bush's CIA and supported by our own Tony Blair. Don't worry about Jesus, he's dead. Do some work right now by supporting the medical foundation for victims of torture and lobbying our torture-loving (and religious what does THAT say? ) prime minister
