It's on tonight and I'd like to watch it, but apparently it's very gory. Anyone seen it? How gory exactly? I don't usually watch gory things, should I avoid it?

its beautiful and terrifying. my dd 13 at the t ime and i watched it last year.

for us as catholics it was very emotive and upsetting.

watching it through any other eyes - such as historically or just for the story - i dont think it could have the same significant depth?

DimpledThighs · 08/04/2007 22:14

oh back on topic there is something where the jews say something like

'may his blood be on our hands and the hands of our descendants'

and they made him change it to take out the 'descendants' bit because it was too evocotive so they took it out - BUT ONLY IN THE SUBTITLES the translation of Aremaic (sp!) still has the descendants bit in.

did any of that makes sense?

no?

Isn't Lou pretty?

lou33 · 08/04/2007 22:14

no i didnt, stoppit i am getting all self conscious

i am not religious at all so i watched it on the basis of the film itself, and found it very hard to watch the , imo, relentless torture scenes

very uncomfortable it made me

LieselVentouse · 08/04/2007 22:15

You dont have pictures on Dimpledthighgs so I have nothing with which to compare her beauty

HoppyDaddy · 08/04/2007 22:15

custy, I thought Mel was trying to make controversy. There are many better ways to tell a story as emotive as this one. I think he made a cheap shot.

custy · 08/04/2007 22:16

hokey cokey happyD your different view is noted

HoppyDaddy · 08/04/2007 22:17

I wasn't having a go, custy.

LieselVentouse · 08/04/2007 22:18

Youd better not be cause I agree with Custy - put em up put em up

custy · 08/04/2007 22:18

i never said you were sweety, take down your defenses.

HoppyDaddy · 08/04/2007 22:19

Defences are down, lovely.

Maybe I need to watch it again.

DimpledThighs · 08/04/2007 22:23

DimpledThighs · 08/04/2007 22:24

Jalal Sharafi (left), an Iranian diplomat who was freed last week two months after being abducted in Iraq, says he was tortured by the CIA while in captivity. He says he was asked about the influence of Iran in Iraq and often tortured "day and night". The US denies any role in his abduction. But Sharafi's statement, made on Iranian TV, increases speculation that he was released as part of a secret deal to secure the release of the 15 Royal Navy hostages. (Observer)

custy · 08/04/2007 22:25

i love it when you call me lovely

LieselVentouse · 08/04/2007 22:30

Dimpled Thighs - is that because you are Kerry Katona/Fern Britton?

DimpledThighs · 08/04/2007 22:36

no

LieselVentouse · 08/04/2007 22:36

Davina McCall?
Jordan?
Patsy Kensit?

madamez · 08/04/2007 22:53

I did hear that during early cinema screenings in the US, one or two gay rights groups (this seems to have been in areas where the local chritians were particularly anti-gay) would go along and shout "Whoopee, hit him harder" at crucial moments.
Though this may be an urban legend...

lou33 · 08/04/2007 22:59

sorry but i did laugh at that last post

"whoopee hit him harder!" ???!!!!

i know i shouldnt

BarbieLovesKen · 08/04/2007 23:09

dp wanted to watch this (again) tonight but wouldnt let him - I tried to watch it before but found it way to upsetting - im really soft like that though - get upset easily plus im quite religious (RC)

LieselVentouse · 08/04/2007 23:10

Its not what you call entertainment but it is a good film. I have to say Ive seen it and know its on tonite but cant watch it again

Tinker · 09/04/2007 00:21

Found it ludicrous. Had to force myself to stay awake

HotCrossPenguin · 09/04/2007 09:25

Well, I didn't watch it in the end, as I was watching Murder In The Outback, but DH recorded it, so will watch it tonight.

Hey, I haven't put any photos on my profile yet - move over Lou33

I watched it last night and found it really emotional - especially the part where Mary had the flashback to when Jesus was a little boy. I imagine the thrashing he got was more to life in those days than the romanticised version shown in other films - found myself shouting enough and covering my eyes swearing. I hated it when they nailed his crown of thorns to his head - uggghhhh.

Who was the woman with the snake?

BizzyDint · 09/04/2007 17:49

that was the devil
