It's on tonight and I'd like to watch it, but apparently it's very gory. Anyone seen it? How gory exactly? I don't usually watch gory things, should I avoid it?

I think Mel Gibson is an alcoholic Jew hating loser.

custy · 09/04/2007 22:07

i don't know if he is a jew hater, i dont believe i have enough facts on which to base that supposition. what facts do you base your opinion? maybe they are some i could look into and base a solid opinion on?

as for an alchoholic? again i don't know, i do know he was convicted of drunk driving. I think less of him as a person for flagrently dismissing the potential loss of life he could have potentially caused.

Hopeitwontbebig · 10/04/2007 10:17

I'm basing my remark on his conduct and comments he's made about Jews, albeit when he was drunk, but disgusting comments all the same.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 10/04/2007 10:27

this really really gets me angry. the whole anti-semetic thing.
why is it ok to bad mouth every other religion except theirs?
people say bad things about catholocism and the pope all the time and nothing is said.
ok, i'm getting very angry now. i'm going to step away from the keyboard before i type something i'll regret later.

LieselVentouse · 10/04/2007 10:35

To be honest - and Im not starting fight here - but I really though Catholics didnt like Jews because they killed baby Jesus - honest Im not trying to start anything.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 10/04/2007 10:39

well A) he wasn't a baby when he died
and B) I can only speak for myself but I don't hate jews for killing jesus. he died so that our sins could be forgiven.

LieselVentouse · 10/04/2007 10:53

I know and Im only saying that cause I have heard Catholics slag off (jokingly) Jews for that reason

custy · 10/04/2007 13:48

i can honestly say i have never heard a catholic slag a jew. and i'm catholic and have practised in 4 different parishes. not a peep.

Jesus has to die. we blame no one. we realise it was gods will.

i think the jews are a bit pissed off we remembered it and keep going on about it?

if they protest they are not.

and we protest we dont

then there is no argument here.

oh and what comments were these that were reported in the press? what makes them true ... that they were reported in the press?

we know that areas of American industry are heavily dominated by religeous people. politics for instance - jews - isreal - abortion - christians - yadda yada

film industy - a heavily politicised industry counting on billions of dollars for films

mel gibson comes along and shouts look at me i'm catholic ner ner ner ner ner.

gotta piss some people off.

so although he may be a thoroughly self absorbed man - i dont know he may be a nice man - i dont know

i think the issue is i dont know - neither do you - and there are biger forces at play here than " that gibson guy is a jew hater"

donnie · 10/04/2007 14:11

I liked it. It is pretty accurate too. All this boring ' it's anti semitic ' is such a load of tosh. It's a bit like saying let's not tell the Easter story as it casts Judas in a bad light. Or let's make Herod out to be lovely and fabulous even though really her was a murderer, especially of baby boys. And lets depict all the Roman centurions as lentil eating book reading pacifists . Or do some people have a problem with facts?

Agree with custy. Hats off to Mel for standing up for his religion.

Twiglett · 10/04/2007 19:18

I refuse to watch anything with that arsehole in or associated with it

which is a shame because I did used to like Mad Max and his other stuff

but one has to take a stand somewhere .. mysoginistic, alcoholic, anti-semitic, shortarse

Tinker · 10/04/2007 21:00

Well, he appears to have apologised so that suggests he had something to apologise about

Have certainly heard anti-semitic comments from Catholics.

But, indirectly, wasn't it the Romans who killed him anyway?

custy · 10/04/2007 23:04

literally yes

politically its not that clear cut.

donnie · 11/04/2007 17:11

well yes tinker - indirectly, as Herod and Pilate gave tacit permission.
Who killed him directly then? in your view?

Tinker · 11/04/2007 17:18

Have just realised custy's response is to the Romans bit. Thought it was re Mel Gibson and I was a bit stumped as to what she meant .

Who killed him directly? Don't suppose I really care. The people of his era who felt threatened by him?

donnie · 11/04/2007 18:31

the chief priests. Who were Jews.

There. I said it.

Tinker · 11/04/2007 19:15

The chief priests and scribes - can't say one without the other. That's indoctrination for you (Talking about myself here)

Tinker · 11/04/2007 19:22

Was anyone in the area not Jewish though? I was being deliberately vague by saying the people of his era who felt threatened by him. I mean, they were Jewish because everyone was. Or were there other faiths in the area at the time?
