Hi Shenanagins. I think we seem to be of the opinion that Elvis isn't going to be in all 12 episodes. I hope they don't kill him off - just that he's off on oth.er missions, killing baddies elsewhere in the world

I didn't think you would complain - I am watching it again anyway so who am I to comment!

Shenanagins · 24/10/2017 22:37

I can go to sleep easier knowing that Elvis will make it (fingers crossed) and more fingers and toes crossed that he will take his top off 😄

Ilovelblue · 24/10/2017 22:40

He was pretty bloody gorgeous, wasn't he?

Shenanagins · 24/10/2017 22:41

Stunning!

Rhubarb01 · 24/10/2017 22:43

From what I have read about the next two miniseries, the first will be a training exercise in Belize that hits problems and the second another humanitarian mission on the Myanmar border. It seems unlikely that SF would be required for either so I suppose we shouldn't expect Elvis to appear again - I just hope he leaves Afghan in one glorious piece.

I will definitely need at least one re-watch before Sunday as there is a lot to take in.

Rhubarb01 · 24/10/2017 22:45

I may need to rewatch and rewind a few scenes - just a few times. Grin

MissEliza · 24/10/2017 22:47

What an episode! I had this horrible feeling that Kingy was going to get killed because there was so much focus on him and his family. Glad my theory was wrong. Lots more CJ and about time.
Captain Azizi's reasons for betraying them made no sense. If he'd been bribed it would be more logical.

Ilovelblue · 24/10/2017 22:47

just a few times - yes, Rhu, I think I can imagine which scenes!

Ilovelblue · 24/10/2017 22:49

Don't know about anyone else, but I did get a bit lost as to who got shot or worse, killed. There was so much gunfire, I didn't concentrate as well as I should.

Rhubarb01 · 24/10/2017 22:52

Yes, MissEliza showing photos of Kingy's kids was a worrying omen but thankfully so far all is well. I agree that Azizi's reasons were odd but I also thought CJ sounded a bit idealistic too considering how many tours of Afghanistan he had done.

Alwaysfrank · 24/10/2017 23:00

Wow! Just joining in as I managed to watch more or less live tonight. I have to say I really enjoyed that - plenty of CJ and lots of action reminiscent of S1. I did wonder if I recognised the bridge but thought surely not?!

Agree that the arrival airfield didn't look very Afghan. This must be such an expensive production I guess they cut the odd corner here and there!

Having seen BA in the flesh it strikes me how much older he seems when playing CJ. I guess it's the uniform and military bearing.

Elvis is growing on me too especially with his shorter hair. Very easy on the eye.

Ilovelblue · 24/10/2017 23:08

Always do we add you to the Elvis fan club then? Remember that Rhu and I have first dibs however..............! :)

Thankfully so far all is well I haven't totally relaxed yet. Kingy has got way more attention in the last couple of episodes than the whole of the last series!

Magi84 · 25/10/2017 07:30

Have just watched Ep 3 again! Exceptional. They really have gone back to the sort of standard we are used to with Our Girl. CJ great ! MK was really good in this and seemed much more comfortable than in eps 1 and 2. All round good episode (still would have liked a mention of Molly of course). Roll on next week. Must say I warmed to Elvis this time too.

wibblywobblyfish · 25/10/2017 09:30

Wow - just watched it again!! Loved it, much more like s1 and I enjoyed the soundtrack too. Elvis looking gorgeous as ever, rather liked jealous angry Elvis Blush

I'm hoping the next army helicopter that flies over my house will be bringing me an Elvis delivery!!

MinesaPinot · 25/10/2017 09:37

That's more like it - more action and no Milan (who I agree is creepy and, like a previous poster, think he is in cahoots with Da Chand).

Still disliking Maisie intensely. The "oh that might have been me" comment after Elvis got snippy with GL about Nepal in front of everyone. She knows exactly what she did, and this gobby attitude is really grating now.

But on the other hand, there was lots of Elvis including the top off shot (which DH said was gratuitous, but I said was integral to the story(!)), so what's not to like.

Looking forward to next week I suspect that not everyone will get out of the compound alive. I think focusing on Kingy, Rab and the Elvis/GL relationship gives an indication of who might not come through, but I could be (hope I am) wrong.

wibblywobblyfish · 25/10/2017 21:36

OMG Captain Azizi just liked my tweet faints

Ilovelblue · 25/10/2017 21:47

Ooooh wibbly do share. I'm afraid I am useless at Twitter.

Great episode last night - OG magic back at last! 😊

wibblywobblyfish · 25/10/2017 22:18

Azizi is Jonas Khan - he's been a busy lad on twitter today!

Ilovelblue · 25/10/2017 22:29

Watched last night's episode again twice today (first time was when I was ironing so please don't think I sit in front of the TV all day!) I was so caught up in it all last night that I couldn't sleep which is so unlike me as I can usually sleep on a clothes line! Do we think this episode was all the better for having a different script writer? It was so much more like the best bits of series 1. Not sure whether it was LP or BA who said the scenes could only be filmed the once so it was a "now or never" situation.

I suppose like everyone on here, I've never been so heavily invested in a television series (or individual characters!) before and last night's episode was definitely on a par, if not better than, episode 4 of the first series. I remember saying in one of the first threads on here that if I'd spent as much time on some of my A level set texts all those years ago as I have done with OG, I may have managed a better grade in my Literature exam!

Can anyone answer a couple of questions for me which I' not sure about. I know this is NOT a documentary but when Georgie is on Skype to her Mum, would she be allowed to reveal where she was, given the high security surrounding the mission if this were for real. Secondly, when Azizzi got shot by the guy on the motorbike, was that intended or was the bullet meant for CJ? Also, and this is rather trivial, but when the guys are washing (and Elvis is very kindly and gratuitously topless for us), how yucky is it that Rab ends up having to wash in Elvis's dirty water!

I'd best stop there for tonight I think.

One last thing though - Rhu and Flower are we doing a watchalong again on Sunday?

OP posts:
Flowerfan · 25/10/2017 22:55

Hopefully if I get a peaceful and uninterrupted evening !
I thought that about the Skype scene even if allowed how would there be a signal out there?
I thought it was meant for CJ but not sure I have just watched again and realised I had missed a lot last night will have to watch again before Sunday it’s more relaxing when you know the end or at least the end of that part
I was so worried who was going to get hurt/killed I found it hard to concentrate at the time

Rhubarb01 · 25/10/2017 23:07

Evening all! Haven' t had a chance to rewatch yet but hopefully at some time tomorrow. It's a 'Yes' from me ilove for the watchalong on Sunday.

I hadn't realised there were different writers for that episode but it's interesting that it struck me the dialogue was a little bit different than usual. I don't know about the skype but I had thought GL would say something, like "I can't tell you." It does amaze me just how brilliant all the mobile and internet connections are in Nepal and Afghanistan and particularly remote places when I consider I can't get a mobile signal at my own desk at work and sometimes not in my own house!

I did think the motorcyclist was intending to shoot CJ but I don't know why he didn't shoot him as soon as he ran up to Azizi - was Azizi trying to escape on the bike with the chap? I haven't watched again so bear with me as I can't quite remember what happened.

Don't know what to say about the washing water apart from it was probably in short supply?
