I'm sure there are many planning to watch this tonight but I can't see a thread, apologies if there is one.

Looks promising with good acting stock. I'm already worried about the implications for real life reporting and conviction rates if the female is lying. Got a feeling it won't be that black and white though.

OP posts:

Sorry to be gorry but, two questions I've been left with...

Would he still be so recognisable after 3 weeks?

And if he was killed more recently, where was he initially?

Wingedharpy · 16/10/2017 22:34

My theory, FWIW, Laura didn't know about under cover OP so innocently met up with blode cop.
Blond cop, messes up under cover OP and someone phones pregnant cop to let her know (we saw her take the call).
She is v upset, naturally, and Jill Halfpenny livid.
Meanwhile, Laura also calls pregnant cop to tell her what she has got.
Discussion ensues and the 3 of them decide that with a good lawyer he may well not get prosecuted as Laura did get some of her info by nefarious means (sister stealing phone etc).
So pregnant cop arranges to meet with him on some pretext and GI Jill, jumps out and bumps him off by strangulation.
Meanwhile, Laura goes to the police with her evidence and police start looking for him.
H
GI Jill has borrowed Laura's canoe to dump the body.
Justice is served.

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/10/2017 22:35

VANESSA gf killing him makes sense

Special forces etc

Maybe s2 will be the 3w of him vanished and where he went

He was def killed

No way he would go there and comit suicide

Did feel sorry for his son

ThaliaLuxurySpa · 16/10/2017 22:39

"Wasn't even a decent cut throat - nowhere near the carotid bundle. You couldn't kill someone with a tickle like that."

Ah, but don't forget the wound's had 3 weeks in which to heal up a bit (superficially, anyway), so would look far less gory and deep than it must've been at time of murder.
True about the location, though.

ThaliaLuxurySpa · 16/10/2017 22:44

Actually, scrap my theory! We don't know when^ within the 3 weeks he was killed, so wound might not have had that amount of time to heal at all.

And as PPs have mentioned, was it a slit-type of wound, or marks suggesting deep strangulation/hanging?

YoureAnArseholeDenise · 16/10/2017 22:44

Do wounds heal after you’re dead??

ThaliaLuxurySpa · 16/10/2017 22:46

YoureAnArseholeDenise,

Good point! I doubt they do. Another reason to discount my theory!

GlitteryFluff · 16/10/2017 22:54

I'm thinking it could have been his son?

BeyondNoone · 16/10/2017 22:55

Well I guess it could have been a non-fatal wound and had three weeks of healing and then he died of something else? Grin

I enjoyed it. I'm still sad she didn't castrate him when she had him last week though

Seeyamonday · 16/10/2017 22:56

Cap ending

Seeyamonday · 16/10/2017 22:57

*crap

MissEliza · 16/10/2017 23:02

Winged I think you've nailed it.

MissEliza · 16/10/2017 23:03

I feel so sorry for the poor son 😢

NuzzleandScratch · 16/10/2017 23:09

But how did the carer alert him when he didn’t have his phone?

RandomUsernameHere · 16/10/2017 23:11

Good point. Maybe he had a landline?

Also felt very sorry for the son.

purpleme12 · 16/10/2017 23:17

I watched the first half hour then switched it decided I couldn't watch anymore. He creeped me out too much to be honest. Bit too much

Wingedharpy · 16/10/2017 23:21

And.......series 2 will be called, "Line of duty" !
Voila.

Clawdy · 16/10/2017 23:31

Apparently the second series is not a prequel, but Ioan G. will be in it in flashbacks. It's about the three weeks after he disappears, and is all about who kills him!

Mumofboys89 · 17/10/2017 02:54

I don't understand why there was a text on his phone asking him to pick up his stuff. Why did the mum/carer do that?

OneInAMillionYou · 17/10/2017 06:12

I agree with MumOfBoys, really lazy writing for there to suddenly be an urgency for his stuff to be picked up! Why?
If they'd killed off his mum and THEN he was being reminded to get it, that would make more sense.
Also, as a PP said, how did Mia call him when his phone had been stolen and he was waiting for replacement?

It is maddening to invest in a six hour series and then for the ending to be played out with so many loopholes and in five minutes or so of screen time.
It would have been much more satisfying to see him convicted and be terrified of life in prison.
Smacks of greed, trying to get a second series out of something which could have played out in a satisfying way within this one.

I don't really care enough for a second series to fill us in on whodunnit, the dramatic tension was about him being caught for his hideous crimes, and that momentum is now gone.

When's Line of Duty back??

NancyDonahue · 17/10/2017 07:04

I was really fed up when I saw he was dead.A final scene with him in prison, frightened and with no control (as his crimes were all about control) would have been far more satisfying.

I'm still clueless as to the point of the sisters affair with the ex. It just filled time.. or am I missing something?

ThaliaLuxurySpa · 17/10/2017 07:10

All the main suspects bumped him off together. Grin

(Laura, her sister, Vanessa, GI Jill, Vanessa's male colleague, Laura's ex, Scottish friend of Andrew's wife, all his other victims, the cab driver he never paid...).

Laura kayaked them out, 1 by 1, to the murder/body dumping remote spot in the marshes. Andrew was forced to swim, towed behind.

[His son, poor chap, will be ok, though: will start a new life with Gingerbread Dog Granny in Edinburgh. Their next-door-neighbours are Driveway Anna and Tom from Doctor Foster. The lads bond by sharing tales of deplorable parents].

ThaliaLuxurySpa · 17/10/2017 07:15

^ Obviously NOT including Luke's mother, btw, as a deplorable parent.

CarrieBradshawsScrunchie · 17/10/2017 07:39

million I agree. Greed for a second series.

I wouldn’t even be surprised if they’d shot two endings: one showing him satisfyingly carted off to prison, the other - if ratings got high enough - killing him off in this way to clear a path for series 2...

The thing is, I don’t care who killed him or how! I just wanted him to go to prison and for justice to be served!

ComingtoKent · 17/10/2017 08:23

Mia the carer might have been calling someone else - police woman perhaps? Police might have visited the mother’s house at some point. Then police woman, army girlfriend and Laura somehow kidnap and murder him between them.

I actually thought the ending was better than expected after last week’s ridiculous episode with Laura using superhuman strength to drag the baddie to her lair, only to fail to tie him up properly. I was dreading a face-to-face showdown between him and Laura where superhuman strength returned so she could kill him.
