9pm
ITV.
Adapted by the mighty Andrew Davies.
The Observer gives it a good review.
Hopefully a big improvement on last week's Mansfield Park.

I've been frantically trying to read it before tonight, but I've got more than half to go, so probably won't manage it. I'm looking forward to it though.

EddieMonsoon · 25/03/2007 19:24

Thanks for the reminder. I liked Mansfield Park though

Marina · 25/03/2007 19:24

There will be plenty of heaving bosoms and buttocks given Randy Andy's input, that's for sure After the sometimes surreal version of Mansfield Park last week - who else saw TV Burp and thinks they ought to have handed the whole project over to Harry Hill and be done with it? - I think we are on safe if salacious ground tonight!
The biggie IMO is how they can ever hope to transcend the wonderful Hinds/Root Persuasion with their new adaptation next Sunday night...

JackieNo · 25/03/2007 19:25

Not sure they can top that one, Marina. Who's in next week's?

Marina · 25/03/2007 19:26

Someone the director has been desperate to work with for years apparently. Err, so that would be since she was in nappies then? Her name is Sally Hawkins and Amanda Root she is NOT.

RosaLuxembourg · 25/03/2007 19:28

Looking forward to NA tonight as I have no emotional investment in it the way I have in Mansfield Park and Persuasion so I don't care what they do to it.

JackieNo · 25/03/2007 19:28

Googled her (name didn't ring a bell) and she was in Fingersmith, which was good. Will have to wait and see.

sunnysideup · 25/03/2007 19:32

oh it's persuasion next week, is it?? Marina, you're right, there is simply no way that they will beat the Hinds/Roots version, which was absolutely definitive if you ask me. Perfect.

ArcticRoll · 25/03/2007 19:43

Agree that the the Root/Hinds Persuasion was superb.
I remember Sally Hawkins giving a fantastic performance in Twenty Thousand Streets Under the Sky.
She was also good in Fingersmith.
I think she will suit the role of Anne Eliot.

OP posts:
Marina · 25/03/2007 19:44

Oh it sounds much more promising then
I never saw Fingersmith or Twenty Thousand Streets but I know they both got good reviews
But who can step into the long-suffering and melting-eyed Ciaran Hinds' big boots though

ArcticRoll · 25/03/2007 19:49

Agree Marina.
Ciaran Hinds was the definitive Captain Wentworth,swoon...

Marina · 25/03/2007 19:50

He does stoicism like no-one else on this planet. He stood out in Rome like a jewel on a dung-heap...

CorrieDale · 25/03/2007 19:55

Hmmmm. Have to say that my hopes are still not high. Mansfield Park was soooo bad I couldn't get through it (and I watch soaps, so I'm not exactly high-brow!)

Carmenere · 25/03/2007 22:12

so does the dad want to shag her or just secure her alleged fortune for his son???

PeachesMcLean · 25/03/2007 22:52

Does anyone know when, or how to find out when, it's repeated? DH has insisted on turning over for Lost and I've only watched bits of the second hour whilst the ads are on...

Marina · 25/03/2007 22:55

If it is like Mansfield Park last week it will be out on DVD before you can say "What a travesty". We videoed ours thanks to dh persisting with the knotty and rather depressing documentary series on BBC2

Beetrootccio · 25/03/2007 22:56

he is gorg - Mr Tilney

Carmenere · 25/03/2007 22:56

He is gorg .

Beetrootccio · 25/03/2007 22:57

and mine

Carmenere · 25/03/2007 23:00

Ok you can have him because I'm not so sure he would stand up too well in modern clothes. Although he did look like a good kisser in the final scene.

foxinsocks · 25/03/2007 23:01

Catherine was a bit annoying though wasn't she

JackieNo · 25/03/2007 23:01

Nope - wasn't convinced about Mr Tilney - his voice was like a cross between Julian Clary and Alan Rickman.

Carmenere · 25/03/2007 23:02

Yes I wanted to slap Catherine.

JackieNo · 25/03/2007 23:02

I do like Rupert Penry-Jones, who's Captain Wentworth next week - very easy on the eye, but possibly not old enough?
