9pm
ITV.
Adapted by the mighty Andrew Davies.
The Observer gives it a good review.
Hopefully a big improvement on last week's Mansfield Park.

lol Jackie

I thought he appeared doable right up till the end and then suddenly he seemed a bit too prim and prudish

JackieNo · 25/03/2007 23:05

The bit in the coach when Catherine was on her way home made me lol - with the 3 yokels staring at her, and the woman stroking the neck of the goose.

JackieNo · 25/03/2007 23:06

Oh yes, and whoever said lots of heaving bosoms was pretty correct - some of those dresses looked very low cut (and the bodices).

foxinsocks · 25/03/2007 23:08

I did find myself thinking even my rather modest bosoms would look very presentable in one of those dresses

Marina · 25/03/2007 23:09

Must step away from thread but am pinioned by fleeting mentions of Rupert Penry-Jones as Wentworth next week [drool]. No, pah. He is but a pretty boy...
We watched The Trap (how I love a good conspiracy theory documentary) so I have videoed the bosoms for later viewing.

JackieNo · 25/03/2007 23:10

foxinsocks - you need a longer version of this dress .

JackieNo · 25/03/2007 23:11

Yes - Rupert P-J definitely too young, but will be fun to watch and drool.

Marina · 25/03/2007 23:12

His idea of life-changing disappointment is finding his cappuccino's gone a bit flat, I bet...not much substance I will have to watch extremely carefully to see how far he falls short of the Hinds Standard

JackieNo · 25/03/2007 23:13

Prettier, but much shallower.

janeite · 25/03/2007 23:14

Well I loved this, after loathing mansfield Part. Thought Henry Tilney was lovely; I believe he's supposed to be "nice" rather than gorgeous and I realy liked whoever played Catherine too - pretty, young, naive - just right.

ArcticRoll · 25/03/2007 23:14

Rupert PJ is rather yummy but agree that he seems a bit too young....actually thinking about it he probably isn't too young ..it's that I am getting old.

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 25/03/2007 23:14

how old is he? (I'm sure he's not too young )

Jackie, that dress is straight out of Northanger Abbey! - it's even the right colour!

Marina · 25/03/2007 23:17

He's actually early 30s I think but in repose has a pretty-boy petulance about his undeniable good looks. We are talking about the man from Spooks, are we?
Was it JJ Feild playing Henry tonight?

yes it was marina

I just googled Penry-Jones. He has his own website with the most hysterical picture on his homepage. He looks very self-satisfied and like he has nits and is giving his head a good scratch.

ArcticRoll · 25/03/2007 23:20

Yes Marina -he played Henry.
I kept thinking he reminded me of Damon Albarn.

Here you go kerry - she gets married to the man she's always loved (but her father had refused) after he comes into money and therefore her father's approval at last:

"The marriage of Eleanor Tilney, her removal from all the evils of such a home as Northanger had been made by Henry's banishment, to the home of her choice and
the man of her choice, is an event which I expect to give general satisfaction among all her acquaintance. My own joy on the occasion is very sincere. I know no one more entitled, by unpretending merit, or better prepared by habitual suffering, to receive and enjoy felicity. Her partiality for this gentleman was not of recent origin; and he had been long withheld only by inferiority of situation from addressing her. His unexpected accession to title and fortune had removed all his difficulties; and never had the General loved his daughter so well in all her hours of companionship, utility, and patient endurance, as when he first hailed her, "Your Ladyship!" "

I am just not surprised at that bit of info re RPJ's website, somehow. And he is heading for Melvyn Bragg type hair issues in later life I feel

lol at Bragg style hair issues - it seems to happen a lot of men with finely preened and obviously loved hair!

(I must get off here and go to bed so that I don't wake up tomorrow and wonder where that missing hour went! toodle pip)

I really enjoyed Northanger Abbey tonight. Thought Catherine was just right, though Henry Tilney was maybe a touch lacklustre for my taste. Does anyone know what Northanger Abbey actually is IRL? I saw it was filmed in Ireland but though Irish myself failed to recogise the building.

LittleSarah · 26/03/2007 09:21

I really liked this one. Much better than Mansfield Park. Catherine a little annoying but I think she was very well done in her little girl naivety. Loved Henry. Yum.

Worried about Persusian next week. Anne's hair! Eek.

JackieNo · 26/03/2007 09:49

It's been bugging me where I know Rupert P-J from - and having looked at the website that foxinsocks mentioned I now know - it's from the David Tennant Casanova.
