Anyone watching? Seems a bit ropey so far but I'm still quite gripped.

OP posts:

Stuck with it for last nights but won't continue.
Bad acting & ridiculous plot!

stonecircle · 19/07/2017 12:39

Every time I switch the tv on there seems to be a trailer, bigging it up like some fantastic drama.

None of the characters have any depth and the plot is so superficial it's laughable.

How can the BBC go from Line of Duty to this?!

WhiteWinterWitch · 19/07/2017 13:31

I thought the first episode was ok, nothing too great but something to watch and it's mark billingham, loved scardy cat, but last nights episode was just ridiculous,it was like something from scobby doo! How did they go from the conversation with Helen shattering her husbands life to then ringingly him to say ok i know who the killer is let's go, pure shite. Is the next episode a new case then? Really disappointed in it.

breadedbrielarson · 19/07/2017 14:07

It was terrible. Can't really take superhans seriously either.
That bit when she attacked the journalist then they lolled- CHEESE
And when she said "cos that's who I am" when he asked why she cheated- CHEESE
oh and that bit where she rubbed her tummy for ages at the end, so naff.

lazycrazyhazy · 20/07/2017 18:43

Actually this is my least favourite of Mark Billingham's books. However I will watch episode 1 as I'm watching TV today after surgery.

Doesn't it infuriate you when locations are moved? I couldn't bring myself to see the girl on the train as so much a part of the novel was the familiar commuter train and they moved it to the US! I know it's a different entity, a new creation, a film not a book, but still bloody irritating when the setting matters!

Inkanta · 22/07/2017 17:52

I really enjoyed this 2nd episode! Agree that the scene where she walled up the female journalist wasn't clever, but there were a lot of other good scenes and overall a good story I thought.

Imstickingwiththisone · 22/07/2017 22:56

I've been googling the actress who plays young Helen in the flashback scenes because i think the similarities are uncanny. I'm wondering if it's a relation of some sort! I think the flashback scenes have been done too much though like they're pleased with the good casting.

Who is Tom Thorne then? Her work partner in the beginning was called Micky? Or do you mean he is her other half and Tom has been replaced by Paul?

I think it's ok TV but I don't expect everything aired to blow me away. Most detective shows are clichéd even the likes of Wallander.

We need a detective programme where the star has a really happy home life and is shit at solving crimes Grin

Imstickingwiththisone · 22/07/2017 22:58

Oh the 16yo who came forward and provided an alibi for the suspect? She looked almost 30 Confused

stonecircle · 23/07/2017 00:54

Imsticking - Tom Thorne is the detective in Mark Billingham's books. Helen has a lesser role.

Chestervase1 · 23/07/2017 10:07

It's dire

oldmum22 · 23/07/2017 15:38

Sadly , I wont be tuning in again as much as I love Mark Billinghams books and Tom Thorne / Helen Weekes character ,this is not what I was expecting.

JustDanceAddict · 23/07/2017 16:48

Pretty lame imo. Thought it would fill the gap that Broken left, but no way.

Clawdy · 23/07/2017 20:20

Won't bother watching the rest, I've given up. Interesting that someone mentioned the dire sound quality, I found the same. And last night we watched a 1985 episode of Miss Marple and you could hear every single word, with the sound down fairly low!!

diddl · 24/07/2017 19:04

I've just started & it's that bloody MyAnna Boring, so I think I'll give it a miss.

RebootYourEngine · 25/07/2017 05:42

I found it strange. Nothing much happened the first episode and then in the second one helen went around assaulting people. They found the killer very quickly but then she went from being skinny to having a bit of a belly so maybe months had passed. I dont know. Its not very well written.

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 25/07/2017 10:24

I enjoy a good formulaic police thriller as much as the next woman, but this? It was ticking along OKish, and then they suddenly thought "Sod it, let's finish it now" and so she suddenly realised the killer, and they got him. It was all so rushed, just the briefest hint of a red herring in the form of the taxi driver.
Then again, if this is an ongoing series then I suppose there will be lots of quickly solved cases. There was just no tension, though, no suspense. And none of the main characters are particularly likeable, except maybe the flamboyant pathologist.

Inkanta · 25/07/2017 13:16

Yes I like the pathologist - and also the boyfriend.

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 25/07/2017 15:28

By the boyfriend do you mean the real boyfriend or the affair boyfriend?
The real one leaves me cold, but Adam (affair boyfriend) is rather easy on the eye!

Inkanta · 25/07/2017 15:33

I like both really - both good actors. The affair boyfriend used to be on Vera. Vera's side kick. Never knew why he left that series.

stonecircle · 25/07/2017 22:53

Have to say, tonight's episode was better ...

AutumnalLeaves38 · 26/07/2017 07:36

Scene where Helen attempts to crack the password on dead Paul's iPad:

Her 1st attempt was "w-w-w-w" Grin

Was laughing too much to notice if her 2nd try was "p-a-s-s-w-o-r-d".

They're both meant to be bloody D.I.s.
Wouldn't have been fast-tracked at Bletchley Park, would they?

PollyPelargonium52 · 26/07/2017 16:49

I don't see why they had to make four episodes and only two stories surely it would have been better to either do a new story every week or at least make one decent story with at least four episodes.

To do two different stories only lasting two episodes each is a bit lame.

WipsGlitter · 26/07/2017 21:45

Worst pregnancy bump ever.

Crispbutty · 26/07/2017 23:20

I thought last nights was better than the first two. Could be a lot better than it is though as the books are very good,

PollyPelargonium52 · 27/07/2017 12:48

Yeh the pregnancy bump is ridiculous like a folded blanked under her clothes or something!
