Anyone watching? Seems a bit ropey so far but I'm still quite gripped.

I didn't watch it because I think I'm reading the book it's based on at the moment - one of Mark Billingham's Tom Thorne novels. So if Tom Thorne wasn't a character in it - and I didn't see him mentioned in the reviews of it - I suspect it'd just make me grumpy Grin

Why base it on a book if you're going to change it so massively?!

bootsmealdeal · 12/07/2017 07:48

I don't get it, just because she's a police officer somewhere else she can just pitch up at any murder scene and they tell her everything?

Yeah and with her husband in tow apparently.

"Yy to shannon matthews/the replacement/broadchurch mash up

its no line of duty that's for sure"

I agree with this too.

The script, direction and acting, were all shite!

TheNaze73 · 12/07/2017 08:01

I thought it was crap

bootsmealdeal · 12/07/2017 08:10

The more I think about it the more I think it was really bad. So why do I still want to tune in next week??

Mark Billingham seems to have written the script based on one of his Tom Thorne books, but the original book is told from Tom's perspective. According to Amazon, he's now released it as another book to tie in with the TV series. Disappointing, I've always like him as a writer.
Programme is a bit confusing because I've read the first book.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 12/07/2017 08:23

Oh yes, forgot that.

Wasn't Helen with Tom Thorne?

Tomorrowisanewday · 12/07/2017 08:37

Yes, it appears to be exactly the same story, just from the other partner's perspective.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 12/07/2017 09:17

I must admit, even as I'm reading the book, I am having problems with the fact that they can judge barge into another force's investigation and get admitted everywhere and told everything.

Is this how it is in the UK? I read a lot of US crime fiction and watch US-based TV shows, so am used to the procedures in those where they all have to get clearance/permission before accessing another police department's crime scene or investigation. Maybe over here it IS just a free for all.

eddiemairswife · 12/07/2017 09:54

As her husband is also a police officer I'm surprised he too was allowed time off.

bootsmealdeal · 12/07/2017 11:14

I think one of the main problems with it is the leading character seemed really annoying. What was that weird hug with her old friend about?

Fantastictwistsand · 12/07/2017 14:21

I really enjoyed it but I'm a sucker for crap telly.

Callmesausage · 12/07/2017 17:11

In the book it's Thorne going to Helen's home town and the husband is no longer around (won't say what happened to him). Quite enjoying it though keep expecting Thorne to pop up!

fussychica · 12/07/2017 17:55

Thought it was a bit site. Not sure I'll watch next week.
I reckon it's the son (who Myanna Bring cooked the chips for).
Disappointed to find it was filmed near Huddersfield when it's supposed to be the Peak District. Why???

Tomorrowisanewday · 12/07/2017 20:04

Callme - he's re-released the book with this story line. Annoyed me, Helen has never come across as a particularly strong character in the Thorne books.

Callmesausage · 12/07/2017 20:16

I didn't know that, thanks tomorrow, I love the Tom Thorne books

barbarann · 12/07/2017 20:20

I loved it!

Never read any of his books so open mind.

Clawdy · 14/07/2017 22:21

I was quite enjoying it till the end when the "other man" turned up. And MyAnna Buring seems to be in everything.

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/07/2017 14:10

i enjoyed tho agree police wouldnt tell her everything

is the baby the ex bf not hubbt

ThaliaLuxurySpa · 15/07/2017 23:12

Only halfway through, so reserving judgement just yet.

Though having a bit of trouble losing myself in the story, thanks to friend christening Helen and Linda "Lisa Stansfield and Lorraine Chase". Grin

tigercub50 · 15/07/2017 23:16

I was trying to think who the Linda character reminded me of! I didn't watch properly but Linda's son seemed a bit odd. Could it be him & not Linda's fella??

tigerdriverII · 15/07/2017 23:19

Thalia

That's killed it for me

stonecircle · 18/07/2017 22:47

Am persevering out of respect for Mark Billingham. But my God, this is turgid, dreary, uninspiring rubbish.

stargazer2030 · 19/07/2017 05:53

I won't be watching the next one. Ridiculously far fetched and the sound quality was appalling. I had to sit with the remote in my hand as I couldn't hear the dialogue. Any bits with music were blasted out and any background noise was too loud and drowned out the talking. The BBC really need to sort this out as it's something they get wrong quite a lot in their dramas. Totally spoiled it.

WipsGlitter · 19/07/2017 06:37

From the first five minutes we thought it was shite. Some truly dreadful acting.
