Are there TV shows that you loved which you've watched years later and didn't like?

My DS1 and his friends are all into Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

I used to like it, found it funny and like Will. But now I just think he's such a horrible character and don't find anything funny.

Some goes for Friends - someone in the house has it on now. Even though I was never mad into it I see it now and can't figure out why I'd even have wanted to watch one episode!

A show called Mulberry which I loved as a kid but is really quite odd.
May to December, boring and unfunny.
Just Good Friends. Vince is an absolute wanker.

I don't like friends either now. SATC I still love!

The waltons - was devastated to watch it a couple of years and find it just so so wrong on many levels!! My childhood was a lie lol

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 13/06/2017 21:48

I loved Friends for a long long time but now find parts of it faintly distasteful and unfunny. It hasn't aged well.

On the other hand, I'm now rewatching Buffy for the nth time (DS finally old enough) and still worship the ground Joss Whedon walks on.

Wife swap

redexpat · 13/06/2017 21:51

Can we count films? Titanic.

1MillionSelfiesTakenByMyKids · 13/06/2017 21:52

Sex and the city

Carrie is just so so so annoying. It's all rather cringey now but it seemed so bold and daring when i watched it a decade or so ago!

TizzyDongue · 13/06/2017 21:57

Sure why not we can include films!!

I'd forgotten about Wife Swap. It was pretty brutal.

Is that not coming back? I thought I saw an ad for "Wife Swap; Brexit"

MercuryMadness · 13/06/2017 22:01

I never found Friends funny even at the time, but now it is just terrrible. Very homophobic, terrible attitude to women, horribly mocking of people. And just so unfunny.

TizzyDongue · 13/06/2017 22:05

Wife Swap; Brexit"

Grin that would of course require couples swapping with opposing views on the subject

Men Behaving Badly is awful now I watch it back.

user1487941567 · 13/06/2017 22:10

It's on this Thursday.

I used to really enjoy Holiday Showdown as well but I suppose it was completely set up to be a bitchfest.

ScrambledSmegs · 13/06/2017 22:10

Rentaghost. I thought it was hilarious when I was little. Turns out it was terrible Sad

Sweatingcobbles · 13/06/2017 22:11

A film not a TV show but I watched Grease back with dd a few months ago and cringed through most of it.

TizzyDongue · 13/06/2017 22:12

Not seen Rentaghost since I was a child (and loved it). I'd say it probably isn't the best. Along with Worzel Gummage I imagine!

Holiday showdown was really good, it seems as though tv just isn't as good anymore, secret millionaire was great and wife swap too.

FinnegansCake · 13/06/2017 22:15

I think comedy ages very badly. Seventies shows like Some Mothers Do Have Them, Terry and June, The Good Life etc seem very contrived and unfunny now, whereas I remember laughing out loud watching them when they were first shown. Although in my defence, I was a young teenager at the time.

BrassMonk · 13/06/2017 22:17

Gilmore girls. Loved it the first time around. Watched it again in anticipation of the new Netflix ones and oh god it was horrible. The new ones were even worse.

ipswichwitch · 13/06/2017 22:24

Only Fools and Horses. Used to love it when I was younger. Now Del Boy just gets right on my tits.

Calyrical · 13/06/2017 22:25

Agree re Friends

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 13/06/2017 22:27

I also agree with those who have posted about Friends - I feel it really hasn't aged well.

Calyrical · 13/06/2017 22:28

Yet I did once find Friends side splittingly hilarious Hmm

reallyanotherone · 13/06/2017 22:31

I hated fresh prince when it was on. Just something i couldn't put my finger on...

Agree re. Buffy. Joss whedon is god.

annandale · 13/06/2017 22:34

I don't watch much old TV for this reason, though I can't remember what put me off quite so much.

I still enjoyed Life and Death of Reginald Perrin but then I was too young to watch most of it when it was on. It's horrifically dated and sexist but I didn't care somehow, it still had something.

And I caught up with a bit of Hill Street Blues on youtube or 4od or something. It's still good but I think I have aged more than it as I can't hear what's going on most of the time. I just haven't got the time to commit to it now.

MrsJayy · 13/06/2017 22:39

Scrubs used to love it found it on comedy central (i think) and it was just rubbish Elliot was annoyinly neurotic and JD is a knob. I still love fresh prince Dd watches it still makes me laugh.
