Are there TV shows that you loved which you've watched years later and didn't like?

My DS1 and his friends are all into Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

I used to like it, found it funny and like Will. But now I just think he's such a horrible character and don't find anything funny.

Some goes for Friends - someone in the house has it on now. Even though I was never mad into it I see it now and can't figure out why I'd even have wanted to watch one episode!

Mr Bean - used to find it hilarious as a child, now I realise he's just a selfish prat.

WarwickDavisAsPlates · 14/06/2017 22:40

Mr Bean used to make me feel physically sick. Even as a child I used to want to scream at the tv "you're making a scene! Just stop it!"

I think the good ones are still shown now - sorry still love the early friends and satc and buffy- but I bet things like ally Mcbeal, this life, Dawson's creek etc haven't aged well as they are never shown on rerun shows (all tv programs I loved at the time)
Anything pre 00s or pre mobiles always seems really old now

Lost. I was a MASSIVE fan. The characters were amazing and the story was brilliant. I started watching it again last year and it was the most boring over scripted piece of crap ever. The stupid violin music and the long drawn out dialogues...I can't believe I was so addicted to it! I only got to episode 3 and couldn't watch anymore.

I still love Friends and Fresh Prince. These are my 2 go to series when I want to laugh.

Really interesting thread - thanks op. Do you think humour in every day life changes as quickly as this thread would suggest? It's difficult to get a perspective on what my humour was like 20 years ago.

Brookside and bad girls loved them both. Watched again on YouTube had to turn them off!

Argeles · 14/06/2017 23:02

Friends, Desmond's, The Golden Girls.

Thisarmingman · 14/06/2017 23:05

I like watching Friends because I find it comforting and it's still funny. I love the way that none of them know how to handle Phoebe's traumatic past and every time there's a reference to it in their little bubble the show becomes meta. And I will never tire of Rachel and drippy Ross sniping at each other.

Agree that Father Ted, Blackadder and ER have stood the test of time.

BadTasteFlump · 14/06/2017 23:05

I used to love Ally Mcbeal - so I recently bought the box set. God it was awful, how did I not notice how self absorbed and irritating she was first time round? Confused

And this is embarrassing to admit - when I was a kid we used to watch all the Carry On films as a family - I think I remember finding them funny. But anyway Carry On Camping was on tv recently and I couldn't believe my parents used to let me watch it; the plot revolves around two dirty old perverts trying to sleep with school girls . How was that ever comedy?

NetballandFootball · 14/06/2017 23:14

The Young Ones
Watched it again recently and didn't even smile. Yet back in the day it was side splittingly funny.

CranjisMcBasketball · 17/06/2017 12:36

Prisoner Cell Block H. At the age of 9+ I used to sneak out of bed or bribe my mum so I could watch this. Every episode is on YouTube so I settled down to watch. The scenery really does shake. The continuity is dreadful. Some of the extras don't even try. Two of them were stood there pretending to speak. They were just opening and closing their mouths like two goldfish eating. The only redeeming feature was Vinegar Tits Vera. I found her worse (or better?!) that Joan the freak Ferguson. I found the racism ( even from "good" characters) hard to stomach.

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 21/06/2017 00:53

Skins. Bunch of self absorbed wankers.

Agree re Friends ageing badly, so sexist and homophobic!

Still love Vicar of Dibley and Father Ted, never get bored watching them

TizzyDongue · 21/06/2017 04:09

Totally agree about Carry On films. Unbelievable that it was considered funny - and of them.

Older men perving over young girls, the constant element of pointlessness of an unattractive (aka big build and without large breasts) woman. To man just fee things.

Birds of a feather.

Alittlepotofrosie · 21/06/2017 12:49

Birds of a feather definitely. And red dwarf has not aged well!

TeachesOfPeaches · 21/06/2017 13:01

Absolutely Fabulous. Was obsessed as a teenager but now I'm a mother I just feel sorry for poor Saffy, abused in her own home. I would never let a friend treat my son as Eddie allows Patsy to treat her daughter.
