Previous Homeland thread - new thread for the sake of inter-episode tidiness.

but assassin/woolly hat guy is the NY neighbour across the street/bomb planter, right?

Yes that's him.

I can't see Javadi living for very long now.

Same. When tonight's episode ended I thought "javadis next"

I also got the impression that the trees thing was code for Brody being alive.

Right, you're all enabling me here but I wondered the same when he said that! Then quickly put it out of my head for fear I would stir up some new hope.

ZilphasHatpin · 19/03/2017 23:15

I also noticed that Saul didn't seem to know who Max was - very odd

Did Saul and Max ever meet before? I can't remember when they did. If anything Saul would have met Virgil. I know max was in Islamabad at the embassy but was Saul there? Also, max has cultivated the chandler bing look more recently so Saul maybe thought he recognised him from friends.

yumyumpoppycat · 19/03/2017 23:34

Do we think assassin set up the whole thing, bumping into astrid to make Quinn suspicious then sending a stooge to the motel? Dar must have wanted astrid dead too or why else not just kill him sooner - why go to visit him?

Travelledtheworld · 19/03/2017 23:40

Kormachameleon that was episode 8 tonight.

UnGoogleable · 19/03/2017 23:47

Did Saul and Max ever meet before

I guess, realistically they wouldn't have done. Saul was the director of the CIA and Max is a technician who was working for one of his agents (Carrie). There would be no need for Saul to have met or dealt with someone several rungs of the ladder below him (no offence to Chandler lookalike).

Do we think assassin set up the whole thing, bumping into astrid to make Quinn suspicious then sending a stooge to the motel?

No, I think the guy at the motel thing was just to show that Quinn's judgement isn't always great. It was just a plot vehicle to get him to question his own judgement and go and apologize to Astrid. I think he genuinely did see the real assassin guy in the shop, but then just made a mistake and picked the wrong guy at the motel.

And I doubt that Dar ordered Astrid to be killed, I'm guessing he just brought her in to babysit Quinn and keep him out of the way, then sent the assassin in, who got a bit gun happy.

Zilphas sorry for stirring up false or not hope... are you watching Billions? Damien Lewis is very sexy in it and will satisfy all your Brodie longings.

Namechanger2015 · 19/03/2017 23:53

Properly laughed out loud at that!

I am and he is so much hotter in it than in homeland. I'm all caught up with it now so have to wait a whole week to see him every time. It's very good.

UnGoogleable · 20/03/2017 00:15

Yes, he lost his hotness in Homeland when he was in that dodgy drug den. Just say no kids, it makes you unsexy.

In Billions... he's just arrogantly sexy. Especially when wearing a heavy metal T Shirt. I'm hopelessly lost with all the financial speak, but I'm loving it all the same.

ZilphasHatpin · 20/03/2017 00:37

Oh I cringed when he wore his megadeath tshirt to the deposition. Far too try hard! Grin

UnGoogleable · 20/03/2017 00:38

Grin try hard yes. But still sexy.

Sorry for the Billions derail... is there a thread for it on here? Haven't seen it.

SoulAccount · 20/03/2017 06:24

Hmm.

Dar went to the trouble of arranging the cabin and Astrid, and took time out of his busy day to travel up there to turn Quinn against Carrie. I don't think he would have done that if his plan was for woolly hat to assassinate them. Woolly hat must have been alerted by Quinn's bungled attempt and moved to Plan B

HalleLouja · 20/03/2017 08:05

Soulaccount or should that be Saulsccount? I agree I think Wooly hat man comes from another dodgy source and not Dar. I think Dar has some kind soft spot for Quinn.

I17neednumbers · 20/03/2017 08:45

Not to speak ill of the dead, but it's a bit surprising that Astrid didn't have a gun in the house/in her pocket. Experience has shown her that you may need one to hand when Quinn and Dar are around.

I know that now is the time for mourning Astrid, but did anyone else laugh or at least smile wryly at the bit last week when Quinn says 'I'm not her husband, she's a German spy' and the driver hurtles off thinking Quinn is delusional?

I like Halle's idea that Dar would not have ordered Quinn's death - but I fear that Dar is a monster with no sense of affection whatever.

How had Javadi managed to contact Dar? And doesn't he realise Dar will have to have him assassinated now?

WellTidy · 20/03/2017 08:51

The cabin can't be the Brody and Carrie cabin. That cabin belonged to Carrie's parents. Dar wouldn't have access to it. And Carrie would know about it and therefore know where Quinn is.

I can't watch Damian Lewis in anything other than Homeland. Him playing other characters ruins my Brody fantasy. I do love a flawed man.

SoulAccount · 20/03/2017 08:56

Hah, maybe I will change my name!

True, maybe Woolly Hat is dancing to a different piper, possibly the far right extremists. In which case spying on liberal lawyers and planting bombs on muslims would be exactly their game, and maybe independently from Dar even tho Dar had them as his PR wing. But the Dar had to have made the recording sent the USB in the flowers. Unless the spooky private surveillance outfit did that....

I agree, I am surprised that Astrid was seperated from her gun, but then it was probably Quinn she was keeping it from, hence hiding it in the car. As if that would stop The Mighty Quinn'

(Shot at, underwater with limited mobility...)

ZilphasHatpin · 20/03/2017 09:00

I reckon Quinn's heavy left arm and leg saved his life last night. They kept him weighed down under the water.

I17neednumbers · 20/03/2017 09:04

Exactly Soul - hiding a gun from Quinn in the car! As if Quinn wouldn't find it. Not sure why he threw the bullets in the lake though - he would have done better to keep them for later surely? But I suppose he is not thinking totally clearly.

I agree, Dar is using the far right group and their aims/methods will diverge - that may be this season's denouement when he realises he can't control them?

PE is uncharacteristically naive to believe Javadi. Surely the fact that he's changed his story should make her at least slightly sceptical? She seems to be prepared to change her entire policy after a two minute meeting.

Factual question - what was the point of the passport in the drawer that Quinn found? Whose was it (I assume it was false)?

yumyumpoppycat · 20/03/2017 09:05

Good point soulaccount that it might have been quinns actions that caused wooly hat to shoot, however is it likely a spy would bump into someone unintentionally that they were following?

yumyumpoppycat · 20/03/2017 09:06

Yes the throwing bullets in the lake was stooped - he would have pocketed them. As soon as he did that I thought he is going to regret that.

yumyumpoppycat · 20/03/2017 09:08

Astrid told Quinn that she had his papers, I'm not sure why they had them there were obviously prepared for different scenarios?

Lweji · 20/03/2017 09:14

I don't think Astrid was expecting any sort of trouble. Even Quinn probably thought the stake out guy was there for Carrie, not him.

I17neednumbers · 20/03/2017 09:16

Ah I see - so it was a false passport for Quinn in case he needed to make a quick getaway. Which he now does - though I can't see him heading for the UK. He's needed in New York!

Clever the way they made you think Dar was thinking 'no this is too wrong, even I can't go along with this' about the doctored videotape, and then he was only concerned about whether there was another copy of the tape!

I17neednumbers · 20/03/2017 09:19

"I don't think Astrid was expecting any sort of trouble."

Yes that may be right - she assumes Quinn's delusional when he talks about the people spying on Carrie. She thinks the reason he's there is that Dar's protecting him from the consequences of having shot someone outside Carrie's house. Again perhaps a little naive...

SoulAccount · 20/03/2017 09:22

It was a man's passport, wasn't it? Maybe in case of a getaway for Quinn. Cunning hiding place...in a drawer.

I am unclear how Javadi thinks that his stunt frees him from watching his back!

Yes, naive of the PE, but she has been chipped away at: the bombing, the fake briefings, Carrie's midnight calls and wild eyed fingers-through-hair thing...
