Will anyone here be watching?!

OP posts:
Alfieisnoisy · 22/03/2017 12:16

On a separate note I was delighted to see the reappearance of Nige Grin

Quite like how m as a character and will be interested to see what happens with him in this season.

As for creepy Jim Hawick....OMG...can never watch the Horrible Histories shows EVER again. He was well creepy in this.

PuppyMonkey · 22/03/2017 12:25

I also think the porn video might be Hardy's teenage DD head superimposed on someone else's body (a la current storyline in EastEnders) in a bullying type scanario - and we'll find out the real footage was the rape itself or something that leads directly to the culprit.

BookABooSue · 22/03/2017 12:51

The DNA couldn't have been from the bed. They wouldn't have taken Jim into the station because he had sex with the victim the morning of her rape. It must have been from the swabs taken in the rape kit.
I'm not sure if that means Trish had Jim's DNA left on her all day (bleurgh!) or if it means they cross-contaminated the results or if Jim has some relative with a close DNA match that raped Trish and thatwe haven't met yet

ButtonMooooon · 22/03/2017 13:03

They took the bedding for DNA after she admitted the rape hadn't just happened and she'd been home to bed on the Saturday night. I seem to recall it actually being her to say there would be more than one set of DNA but wouldn't say who she'd slept with pointless exercise

CoolCarrie · 22/03/2017 14:16

I just wonder where Trish was between the rape and turning up at the door of the closed police station? Was she at home? Could she have been unconscious for a while? I think she has an idea who did it

findingmyfeet12 · 22/03/2017 14:23

I'm starting to think that Trish's friend Cath? raped her as well now.

The fact that the rapist was keen to conceal his/her identity is because it was someone known to her and a woman. Sorry for tmi but I think she may have used the handle of the second cricket bat and put the condom over it.

GoldenGumballs · 22/03/2017 14:52

I don't think the video could be the rape surely surely someone would have got it to the police by now. Most teens would have the sense. But what about the wheelbarrow? It was a long way to carry Trish so could that have been used? Could still be just one perpetrator.

BookABooSue · 22/03/2017 14:54

Yy Button but they wouldn't have called Jim in to question him about the rape if his DNA had only been on the bed. They must have found his DNA elsewhere.

NotJanine · 22/03/2017 14:58

why wouldn't they have wanted to question him?

JDelanysCleanHorse · 22/03/2017 16:03

Sorry if this is a stupid question but have they confirmed the exact scene of the rape was by the waterfall using the blood on the stone?

I don't think Trish is lying about the rape -her reaction to going back to the scene was too realistic.

DubiousCredentials · 22/03/2017 16:17

I assumed Jim's DNA was from the vaginal swab?

qazxc · 23/03/2017 08:51

I think Trish had admitted to having unprotected sex in the morning, but wouldn't say who. That's why I was a bit puzzled at the pile of condoms in Jim 's car, especially as there must have been some element of planning to the morning tryst. Unless he got them after hoping for repeat performances.

SapphireStrange · 23/03/2017 10:30

why did Trish and her husband split up? I think we're supposed to infer it's because of the girlfriend I thought he got the girlfriend after they split; didn't he say he had 'a new girlfriend now' or something?

I think her [Trish] being a sex worker would make a lot of sense. I'm beginning to think this too. I wasn't at all convinced by her saying that was the first time she and Jim had had sex, or that she 'just wanted sex'. Either she's a sex worker or, as PPs have said, maybe she and Cath have cooked up something to get Jim into trouble.

New rape victim: I agree with this I think she's a red herring, I think she's being blackmailed to make a report to distract the police. Her expression when she was at work wasn't one of someone just deciding to report a traumatic event, IMO; she looked guilty/troubled in the way of someone who knew they were about to do wrong.

I think the owner of the cottage near the big house will be significant, but I don't think it's Joe Miller.

ktel1 · 25/03/2017 14:10

I wonder if 2 people were involved in the rape. It's hard to imagine one person being able to carry Trish the distance from where she was knocked unconscious to the scene of the rape.

I was wondering if they were going to reveal that Joe didn't actually kill Danny and was perhaps covering for Tom.

However when I re watched the last episode of season 1 they appear to make it clear that it was Joe- showing in the flashback what actually happened so I think it's unlikely.

Flightywoman · 26/03/2017 21:59

Sapphire, couldn't she look troubled because she never reported it and now it's happened again?

I don't think she's a stooge, but I do think it's obvious it will be someone in the town, not a stranger.

SapphireStrange · 27/03/2017 10:55

Flighty, I don't disagree that a person might be troubled for the reason you give, but I'm not sure that's the case here; my reading of her expression was as I said above.

Happy to be proved wrong though!

VanillaSugar · 27/03/2017 11:22

She said "Tony" on the phone. Charlie Higson played "Swiss Tony" in the Fast Show.

I'm going to go back to my Midsomer Theory, that the most famous actor did it. So, who is most famous:

Sarah Parrish
Charlie Higson
Lenny Henry
The guy from Horrible Histories
??

DubiousCredentials · 27/03/2017 12:40

She was just making a sales call when she was on the phone though surely? She said something like "I can't say when we'll be able to repeat this offer Tony" or something like that. It was a call centre I presumed and she had seen the headlines in the newspaper and had that look on her face as she was thinking "shit I'm gonna have to think about this again/report it/ should have reported it at the time".

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/03/2017 13:01

The fact that it was in the Echo might be significant after the bit in episode 1 about them closing the paper. They haven't mentioned it again have they? But maybe they will use this person coming forward as a result of the article as a reason to keep the paper open? Broadchurch needs its local paper?

SapphireStrange · 27/03/2017 13:42

I was wondering that, bear. A lot was made of the paper closing thing. At the time those scenes were dull as ditchwater didn't seem to have much dramatic weight, but it must tie in somehow. Your theory makes a lot of sense.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/03/2017 14:22

Yes it was a really blah scene wasn't it, and then not been followed up at all.

DubiousCredentials · 27/03/2017 16:50

It must be relevant somewhere along the line. Ditto her out of Casualty being the victim support coordinator person. Surely she must be going reappear at some point.

SapphireStrange · 27/03/2017 17:29

her out of Casualty I don't watch Casualty; do you mean the first person they took Trish to after she reported the rape? I did think all that procedural stuff went on for quite a long time too; I assumed they just wanted to be very clear about what victims must then go through, as well as how well (hopefully) it's handled, but maybe those scenes and her character WILL turn out to be more important.

DubiousCredentials · 27/03/2017 18:09

No I mean the woman in the office where Beth was given details of her new client who turned out to be Trish. Her real name is Sunetra Sarker.

Graphista · 27/03/2017 21:20

We all watching? Why pull HH guy in, no significant connecting evidence I don't think.
