Loved it!

intheknickersoftime · 15/01/2017 23:05

Oh my god she's here! How did you get on Mumsnet!! How!!

BlancheBlue · 15/01/2017 23:07

Sherlock was great season 1 and 2. Then really declined. Worked best them actually working on cases.

Was morarity killed off to quickly?

TheSpottedZebra · 15/01/2017 23:08

The dead viking at the end was Paul Weller, apparently.

So Cumberbatch gets to have his parents cast, and Martin gets his now ex-partner, but also the Chief Mod ? Ffs.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 15/01/2017 23:10

Hadn't a clue what was going on. Disappeared into kitchen for a while, came back, asked Dh if he'd worked out yet what was going on.
'No'.

Have come to the conc. that my plot-following limit is Midsomer Murders.

SuperPug · 15/01/2017 23:10

Good, not just me.
First two series - brilliant. The Mary storyline this season was quite good but what a damp squib of a final episode.
Got very excited about the appearance of Moriarty until it was presented as a flashback. His death needed further resolution, not that rubbish episode based on fan theories.
Who really cared about this episode? How a psychopath suddenly wanted help and love? Pretty low budget for a final episode as well.

FagAshMIL · 15/01/2017 23:10

dead viking?

EurusHolmes · 15/01/2017 23:11

I see my evil plan of making the final episode terrible has worked. Wink

SuperPug · 15/01/2017 23:11

I don't think there was anything to "get" which was the problem- now great twists, resolutions and the grave clue was unbelievably absurd.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 15/01/2017 23:13

Don't think it's the end. Clearly Irene Adler will be back.

A1Sharon · 15/01/2017 23:16

I liked it.Blush
But it has gone the way of 'Lost'.

drigon · 15/01/2017 23:17

We all enjoyed it here, just sayin'

I am in two minds. It was scary at the beginning, but I think when Jim flew back it, they should have left the date off, just to make it more confusing. I just felt a bit flat when I saw it was a flash back. There were some amazing moments, but also some meh ones. I'll probably watch it again when my ED is back from uni this weekend.

I would like to know how John got unchained Hmm

saoirse31 · 15/01/2017 23:29

I enjoyed it, I think

BubbleWrapQueen · 15/01/2017 23:29

I loved it, and managed to follow it all. I thought it was very clever.

Ps Molly was in the fast run at the end, smiling at Sherlock in his living room

Badcat666 · 15/01/2017 23:33

Also... if the sister was SUCH a threat (by basically "taking over the asylum") then after her recapture she would have either been chemically lobotomized or "put down", not locked up in the same place she escaped from multiple times because "she is in a place now that we can't reach her " or whatever twaddle was said at the end.

Utter total bollocks. (and the end message from Mary just made me cringe inside... sounded more like something from a "The Famous Five" novel)

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 15/01/2017 23:38

I love it. It was completely bonkers but I still loved it. I hope that isn't it forever, but if turns out that that's the case then I think it was an acceptably tied up ending. Don't give a crap if there were loopholes, it's a wildly entertaining piece of TV - I don't analyse it for logic. I'm happy to wave the 'piece of fiction' macguffin wand over drama on TV.
I'm going to go haunt tumblr to see whether that ending pleased or dismayed Johnlockers, as I thought it was sufficiently ambiguous to apply to any reading of their relationship.

RustyBear · 15/01/2017 23:39

I think John's chains were fairly long, because he managed to climb up the wall a bit once, before falling off. So when the rope was let down, he could be pulled up far enough to get him clear of the water, so he didn't drown before someone could get down to him and cut the chains.

EllaHen · 15/01/2017 23:39

Did someone say 'dead Viking'? I noticed a tune someone sang at some bit (can't remember but early on) was from the film Erik The Viking.

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 15/01/2017 23:40

RE John and the chains. They dropped a rope down. A nice man with a big boltcutter shimmied down, cut the chains and voila, John Watson is saved.

Ropes work in both directions.

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 15/01/2017 23:42

So Cumberbatch gets to have his parents cast, and Martin gets his now ex-partner, but also the Chief Mod ? Ffs.

I misread that as Paul Weller being Martin's ex, and wondered when I missed that bit of news.

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 15/01/2017 23:44

Actually I've now decided to amended my headcanon to Molly shimmying down to rescue John, dressed as a kick arse ninja.

MegCleary · 15/01/2017 23:49

Well I loved it. It showed She

Well I loved it, love, love, loved it.

DodoRevival · 15/01/2017 23:49

Completely agree that the characters have taken over from the plot.

First two series were better as it was about deduction of the mystery rather than Sherlock's angst.

Also agree there was nothing to 'get' it's all very 'this is wacky and mysterious' when there's not actually a thought through explanation to it (so no reasoning through as there was in the first two series - and what made the series good). Hyper intelligent psychopath manages to transport people around Britain and control a high security prison. She gets sad about not playing as a child - all psychopathic tendancies solved from hug from brother.

This lack of thought through explanation is why there's no reason how Watson become unchained. There's none.
