JD wakes up on the table of the American doctor (who previously evicted him at gunpoint) having his guts sewn back into place following the attempt on his life. Words are mumbled. The gist of which was that Carlsbad (the person JD is trying to contact on the American side) is a she and that JD will give Nootka sounds to whoever gives him the trade route to china so he can trade furs for tea.
JD makes a will leaving Nootka sound to the Americans meaning the king and EI company can't kill him now because the land would automatically go to America.
JD finds markings in his mother's bedroom that match markings that were made on his back when he was a prisoner in Africa.
Newly discovered step mother moves in with JD staking her claim on half the house. Whilst out at a performance she gets duped into a carriage ride that takes her to meet the duke of somewhere who insists she is going to perform lesbian sex for his titilation. She resists and stabs him. JD reckons it was a setup so she can be arrested and they will come to his house to get her.
Sister Zilpha insists JD stops writing to her and that she burns the letters. Zilpha and JD meet in a church, she straddles him and then tells him he will never see her again, he disagrees. Her husband visits JD and taunts him. Husband aggressively berates Zilpha for failing to produce a child.
The minute taker from EI company that JD shared a look within episode 1 is a secret drag queen/male escort. He was in the cadets with JD and sounds like they were quite close. JD tells him he wants him to give him information from the EA company in return for one pound a month and JD not spilling his secret.
JD continues to give soap and hot water the slip.
